  1. Yeah. The days of Buffalo re-signing all their guys is over this off-season. It won't be like the 2006 off-season when Fletcher and Clements were allowed to go for nothing, but everyone will need to acclimate to more contributors departing. And not because they were cheap as in RW's later years. They've kicked the can down the road that the bill coming due means, to your other post, that pro personnel and amateur scouting needs to be better. For now it's the playoffs and I'll be content with watching the games...but this off-season there'd better be a realignment of priorities.
  2. Malik Boyd would be a huge loss...almost as much or maybe the same as Brian Gaine in 2018-19. Is it Reid or Reid and Mahomes...because Philly fans would disagree on the former.
  3. If the reports are true that some league flunky wanted to give the teams 5 minutes to warm up after Hamlin left for the hospital, then kudos to McD for saying no to that insanity. That took a lot of emotional intelligence to consider the gravity of the situation, look at his players, realize they can't go now, and then to get them out of there. A great leader always knows to be situationally aware enough to read the people in his organization and know where he needs to be. McD did that as well as anyone can expect given what happened. In probably the most crucial moment as a leader of men he showed me a lot of character. Can never take that away from him.
  4. Unpopular take: I have never liked comparing even a violent game like the NFL to war. One is not like the other no matter how many times they are mentioned together. Marv often used to say that a NFL game was not a must-win, WWII was a must win. That said, there are men in women in the US who have served in wartime and attended memorial services of those recently killed in action. Those surviving service members did not have the option of calling it a day and retreating into permanent despair. Losing a friend/fellow team member suddenly is a trauma and unfortunately people must return to their duties and later home to face some real serious demons. We pray for Damar, his family and hope for his recovery from this tragedy. It may not be the time today or tomorrow to play a game, but there is a healing in moving forward with the season. It is not time to quit, suspend expectations and remain in a pit of despair because of this. I'm not calling into question anyone's toughness, mentally or physically either. Human beings must, given the world we live in, strive to overcome even extreme adversity. Sometimes that adversity is going to be more than we think we can handle and there is no manual to do this. I saw Dan Orlovsky on ESPN the other day go his route...and I think it's a good start toward working through the tragedy.
  5. Reminds me of Gregggg Williams claiming he wanted to draft Drew Brees in 2001. Revisionist history from has-beens to improve their bad reps.
  6. Read your first sentence over again. Then consider Simms' observation given your first sentence. If you asked a lot of NFL pundits, I'm confident they' respond the same way about how Buffalo's offense has been built. They papered over personnel issues and still haven't given Josh what KC and CIN gave their franchise QB's.
  7. But who really cares besides fans? Not trying to be a jerk...just asking the question.
  8. It's still missing that both QB performed in vastly different eras. It's like the people who look down and see MLB'ers who hit 500 homers in the 50s/60s and compare that to the juiced era. As if there's no difference. Marino was doing this when people had backs running the ball 350+ times a season, defenders could destroy QBs and WR's, and teams generally didn't throw the ball like they do now. Now, the rules favor the passing offense and no one dares hit a QB. We've seen how that gets flagged and PI is called far differently than it was in the mid-80s. Ergo, passing records are easier. The other thing is, all of this is just symbolism over substance. I doubt Josh is concerned with this "record" or that he's been QB for the AFCE winner these last 3 seasons after the franchise drought going back into the mid-90s. It's a fan specific thing to highlight. Means basically nothing.
  9. I will never understand why people come here to post regular season statistical performance that, considering where the franchise is, having nothing to do with post-season performance. And I say that completely believing Josh had won them the Divisional Round game last year. Everyone knows that Josh is a franchise QB...we don't need to validate that concept anymore.
  10. The Fantasy Football approach to NFL roster strategy continues.
  11. I'm not the first to say this here...but the draft is strategic and not tactical in nature. By that I mean it's not for addressing immediate issues like Buffalo has at OT, G, and WR. Because as soon as that happens, you're drafting more for need than you'll admit...which is how you wind up with the 2nd rounders this team took in 2019-2021 (Ford, Epenesa, Basham). If the higher level (vision for how this team plays offensively) isn't addressed first, the downstream decisions aren't going to work. Prime example is, the Bills decided during the '22 off-season that getting run-specific OLinemen like Saffold and taking another RB highly was the right offensive strategy...but it wasn't. Their OL is still not good and Josh is still forced to carry the ball ~10 times per. It's pretty concerning to me that the same personnel group and HC decided that their UFAs and draft picks would make the offense better are faced with the same problem again in 2023. Some people at OBD need to take a long look in the mirror and adjust their vision for what this team will be in the coming years not only on offense but both sides of the ball.
  12. One would think the AP All-Pro 1st and 2nd teams will be a better indicator of who's the best at their position than this hot garbage.
  13. The Basham pick just screamed he was a McD pick, so I guess everyone was aligned with that thinking or wouldn't challenge the defensive mindset leading up to the draft. However they set the board up, it's leaned defense enough to notice after 6 drafts with McD. By now I would have expected Beane to make the case that their franchise QB needs more than what they've given him to work with. They'll go offense this year, but it'll be a day late and a dollar short. They needed that help earlier and it probably wouldn't have been a big loss to the defense.
  14. I'd like to see McD go Tommy Lasorda. As in, being asked what how he felt about Dave Kingman hitting 3 homers against the Dodgers once. We're due for a McEruption at some point.
  15. Some day people will realize that better RBs behind a bad OL does not improve an offense. Even a decent RB behind a decent OL aren't as value-added. On second thought...no, they never will. Fantasy football, among other things, has ruined it. That, and people continuing to live in 1985 who never see the changes occurring in pro football these past 10 years.
  16. Can't be any worse than Colin Brown in 2013. Well, that's a low bar...ideally would want him much better.
  17. Posted within 3 minutes of each other. I rest my case.
  18. That's too late because this was the go-for broke season...Josh in his prime, they signed Miller, and their cap space is gonna be a challenge in 2023 to make the kinds of moves you know need to happen. Not their fault Miller went down, but that OL might be worse than it was last year. When multiple players do not work out that's an indication something is amiss above field level. It's one thing if you're first round DE or OT aren't immediate impact starters, but they took a RB and he's only getting 22% of the snaps. Bigger issue is, as others have noted here, their UFA offensive signings over the years have been mostly duds. Hopefully the off-season doesn't begin for Buffalo until February 13, 2023.
  19. I am beginning to think Teef and Royale Cheesy are just Siamese twins with their own computers in mom's basement. Has the meatloaf come down yet?
  20. Nah dude...you didn't like the answer so you've decided to throw a temper tantrum. Keep pounding that sand.
  21. You see the big picture when it supports your fanhood...in this case the team that's beaten Buffalo these last 2 years having a clunker. When the Bills win a SB I'll give them the benefit of the doubt after a performance like KC had versus Houston. KC has been to the SB and won it. The Bills, especially on the road, have struggled the last 3 playoffs. Some of you in your fanhood don't get that trust in coaching and players is earned. McBeane haven't got there...yet.
  22. When did TBD become enamored with congratulating former Bills who never made it here? But while we're at it...I want to congratulate Jason Peters for continuing to make Russ Brandon look a complete clown on his way to Canton. Not many 40 year olds playing OT for a playoff team and getting meaningful snaps.
  23. This is just a heavy dose of quibbling. Going 11-3 and winning the division is nice...the standard for 2022 has always been to get the #1 seed heading into the playoffs. Just saying we're in a good place now while putting the head in the proverbial sand isn't a view I share because... The idea last off-season was to improve the running game to alleviate the reliance on Josh. But it's now clear these last 4 games they need Josh running to keep the offense going. That was on display against a lower ranked MIA defense. Josh is running the ball almost 10 times each of these past 4 games. That's on McBeane....they are responsible for not giving him the protection and skill players to allow him to win from the pocket.
