Which Ex Bills HC Would You Hire Again?
BobChalmers replied to BillyWhiteShows's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess he's too easy an answer. I like Chan, but he's 100% the wrong OC for Allen. -
Murray is going to be a baseball player. The NFL team that drafts him is stupid (Raiders?) - most will shy away, the risk of a completely blown pick is just too high. That means even more teams will be desperate to move up and get Haskins - and yeah, I can believe they will trade up to 3 to get him.

Playing the Role of GM 2019
BobChalmers replied to BillsFan1988's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Misleading thread title - I thought this was about Mike Mayock! (totally just kidding) As for the OP - I am absolutely NOT willing to pass judgement on the talent of the OL until I see them coached by someone other than Juan Castillo. Sure we could add 2-3 but wholesale replacing all 5 of them is just silly. -
Report: Bengals looking to trade WR John Ross
BobChalmers replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For as little as the Bengals are probably asking (article says 5th), GET IT DONE! Sounds like they'd take even less than that, which makes it a no-brainer in this WR market. -
Allen 3000 yards. + 1000 yards
BobChalmers replied to Tatonka68's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reality is he didn't really expose himself to much when he was running. He was hurt when he was staying in the pocket. The way he runs - fast and aggressive - actually protects him, IMHO. It doesn't hurt that he's bigger and thicker than the guys trying to stop him. Also keep in mind he didn't run that often - what he did do is rip off big chunks of yardage when he did run. If you go back and look at his runs, there's a lot of smarts in how he chose to run vs. throw it away. -
1. I'm going to go bold and say Tyler Murray could fall (assuming he goes). Scouts could look at him face-to-face standing next to all the other elite athletes and be put off by his lack of size. If his arm doesn't impress, OR if he wavers at all in his commitment to football over baseball, it could kill his stock. 2. By contrast, Haskins' only reported weaknesses are when he's pressured, which won't happen at the combine - he could shoot way up to a top overall pick QB. 3. Any WR who surprises positively with their 40-time will shoot up the board - there's a need for them. Scary b/c they might still be reaches - hopefully the Bills don't fall in love with the wrong guy track performance and forget the tape.

Cards looking to stay up in the top of the draft board for 2020 apparently.

"Hate" is a bit strong, but he had pretty poor hands from my admittedly rough estimation. Never seemed to make the tough catch in his years with Taylor. Not big, not especially fast, not a good receiver, reputation as a good determined blocker. Not his fault Rex and Whaley overpaid to get him, but as time went on he pretty quickly didn't even look average out there. No clue how this helps Rosen at all.

McBeane's Moves Now Are For 2020 Success
BobChalmers replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A lot of that and their overall success will come down to whether they can have any sort of a running game this year. Your top two RBs averaging under 3.5 per carry is NOT good. Hard to take JA's excellent play action too seriously when your run game is a joke. They need to get better at OL, RB, and OL/Running Game COACH. Hopefully the last part is already accomplished - we'll see. Castillo sets a pretty low bar wherever he goes, with teams' running games miraculously improving when he leaves - hopefully that history holds up. -
yeah - it's hard to do one's job I guess ?

Could the Bill's end up with 2 first rounders?
BobChalmers replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah - this is a very weird draft - almost no offensive talent projected in the top half. I would love this trade, though it feels a little pricey - depending on who Oakland thinks they are getting, Bills might even scrape another pick out them. All of this reasoning is pre-combine, mind you - there will be a LOT of movement on the draft boards after March. -
Right Tackle market shaping up
BobChalmers replied to CaptnCoke11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not willing to pass judgement on ANY of the OL based on how they played over time under Castillo's coaching. Miller was looking good in his first season in Buffalo, then Juan took over. Wood got a lot worse under Castillo. Dawkins looked great out of college then got worse over time. See a pattern here? Dawkins might be a lot better then we think. "but it has to be rebuilt at every position" so the OL that led the league in rushing two straight years before Castillo took over now looks like complete garbage? Maybe all of them got a lot better when that clown left town? -
Mel Kiper Mocks — 1.0 DT Rashan Gary 2.0 DK Metcalf
BobChalmers replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And you solve that conflict by trading down (or maybe up) to where a need position has a BPA. I really didn't like Beane's answer b/c of this fact. Sure don't reach for need where you are sitting - but FFS don't sit there then! Having said that, we already know Beane will trade all over the place so that his need guy is a legit BPA. -
Speed over size is what you want for Allen. We saw that pretty clearly over the two halves of the season. Obviously you want "good receivers", but the OP asked a fair question, and the answer is speed. Sammy Watkins would be amazing with Josh Allen - if he wasn't always broken. And I'd only qualify my "size doesn't matter" ? answer with "as long as they're big enough to play and survive on an NFL field". We don't need Roscoe Parrish 2.0.

Juan Castillo historical coaching results

I live down in Maryland, and ALL my hard core Ravens fan friends told me the same thing. That was Kromer McDermott did - and he kept CROSSMAN! -
Juan Castillo historical coaching results
BobChalmers replied to BobChalmers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd have to look at the roster moves by year, but just looking at the Ravens history before, during, and after his tenure there is pretty damning on his coaching. Add to that what we saw with the Bills - both the statistical performance, and the individual drop off by multiple players - Mills, and Wood come to mind. -
Team Year Rushing Rank Underlined in red are Castillo OL and/or Run Game coordinator coaching jobs Eagles 2008 22 Eagles 2009 22 Eagles 2010 5 Eagles 2011 5 (Castillo was with the Eagles but as the Defensive Coordinator, not OL coach) Eagles 2012 13 Ravens 2012 11 Ravens 2013 30 Ravens 2014 8 Ravens 2015 26 Ravens 2016 28 Ravens 2017 11 Ravens 2018 2 Bills 2015 1 Bills 2016 1 Bills 2017 6 Bills 2018 9 Worth noting on Bills stats, and Ravens stats this year, rushing numbers were heavily inflated by a running QB, which hardly has anything to do with the OL or "run-game" he "coordinated". (Or his predecessor in Buffalo with TT, to be fair.) Bottom line, he had a few good years, but generally teams have been better without him than with him.

Final Tremaine Edmunds numbers, shoutout from Bills PR
BobChalmers replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously, can we please sign him to a 15 year contract?!!! What is Beane waiting for?! (Yes, I know that's not allowed...)
