My mother lives in a nursing home down there. I sure hope he knows what he's doing. -

As did I. I think baseball could start up pretty quickly with a few rule changes like you get a 6 foot lead off of every base and you can't steal or try to pick them off. Use electronic balls and strike caller. Players not playing sit in stands feet apart. The only hangup is they couldn't spit. I think that might make it dang near impossible. -

Every one must have their own golf cart. Or here's a novel idea, they could go old school and walk. Still don't understand why tennis is out. Tennis players NEVER get within 6' of each while playing. -

I've been saying this for a while. If they do region by region or state by state, then they better do something to make sure the people in the still quarantined states stay where they are. Otherwise they're gonna take it with them. -

Are these test kits China sold to the Brits the WHO tests? WHO is not mentioned in the article, only China as the source of the test kits. -

I don't think this is known yet. Will it be like chicken pox immunity? Get it once never get it again. Or will it be like flu immunity? I heard Dr. Bird say last week or maybe the week before that if you get the flu, you get some immunity but you might catch it again but it won't be as bad. I hear a lot of people running with this theory, but is not a given. If you have more definitive information please share.

How did they miss out on the lack of WMDs? How did they miss out on Hillary NOT being a slam dunk in 2016? There are so many examples. -

I would agree with part of what you say. The key to having a decent living is learning a marketable skill and staying current in it. If you never learned one you're screwed. And it's never too late to learn one. However I also believe that things like 40 hour work week, paid holidays, paid vacation are a good thing. They were put in place in part because happier employees (that get vacation etc) are better workers. Today many in the tech industry are like the late 19th century earlier 20th century monopolies except they wear T-shirts so people think they're cool and their friend. As far as Uber/Lyft drivers choosing to do this, for sure. But my point was how easily people give up what people in the past worked very hard to get and in cases died for. That was what I was responding to. -
I don't disagree with much of what you say. Technologically we could close ALL schools tomorrow and replace them with distance learning. Absolutely could happen. But the question to ask is SHOULD it happen. First off, it will be more expensive than you are think IMHO. Presently the delivery is being done on a wing and prayer with Zoom or recorded sessions. My neighbor who is a teacher was telling me about this from 6' away. If we were to go to this full time, there would be massive technology infrastructure that would need to be bought and then have maintenance fees and upgrades forever. Technology often makes money savings claims but they also introduce huge costs. But the real question I have is, what is the effect on learning for going this route? Do some kids learn worse online than for in person classes? What about retention of what's learned? What about the ability to deliver complex topics like chemistry online effectively? No more chemistry labs. As a computer person I have gone to a lot of classes. I have also done a lot of online classes. As far as learning goes, the in person classes offer much better learning and retention and it's not even close. When this online stuff first started up (1999) I asked a vendor if he had studies on learning and retention between online and in person classes. They didn't. I wonder if anyone does now? Not saying it can't happen but seriously question if it should.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Totally. You have to look no further than the "gig economy" to see how this happening in front of our very eyes. In the early 20th century people worked really hard and some died to acquire things like paid vacation, sick time, health insurance, weekends, the 40 hour work week etc. Nowdays people think this is of no value and should be able to pay someone dirt wages to drive their own car totally at the mercy of the company paying only for when they have a rider and have no health insurance and work more than 40 hours a week. And people are happy to give it away because they can now do it with a cool app. Sad. Who said they were? -

How does this argument suppose that this isn't happening already? The part you bolded was "the continual rise of automation taking away jobs?" https://www.dictionary.com/browse/continual?s=t Of course it's been going on. But if you raised the minimum wage to $25 as you suggested I would propose that continual process would be greatly accelerated. If McDonalds had to suddenly pay $25 per hour, very shortly you would have touch screens for customer ordering and they'd need about 1/2 the workers they need now. Domino's would get rid of pizza makers and use a machine (which already exists). Meaning more people don't have jobs. Why is outsourcing separate from wages? The whole reason we have so much stuff made in China is because you can make it a HELL of a lot cheaper with people that make $2 a day. Ask Phil Knight. If manufacturers now have to suddenly pay everyone $25 an hour don't you think more would say screw it, and move production to China or somewhere else cheaper? Raising minimum wage to $25 sounds great. But what are the unintended consequences? I have laid out two. I'm sure there are others. I knew this was coming. -

I understand your point. However what impact would this have on outsourcing jobs to places where people make $2 a day and the continual rise of automation taking away jobs? -

I don't know how they do it n CA, but in WA you have to sign your ballot and they verify the signatures. I know cuz my wife has had hers challenged a couple of times. Which is s a form of voter id in that they verify you really are who you say you are. As far as which ballots to gather, they use the same data to gather the votes that they use to draw up to draw congressional districts. And yes, Rs do it too. They're playing hard ball. They cheat no matter what you do. Google "ballot box 13" if you don't believe me. I don't necessarily have an issue with voter id. Seems racist to me to say minority people are too stupid or lazy to get a voter id. Again, boggles my mind that people in CA are stupid enough to give their ballot to someone else to mail. At least in WA it's postage paid. How hard is it walk down to your mailbox and drop it in? You go there once a day anyway. Seems rules could be tightened to prevent most of this assuming anyone in congress really wanted to do something about it. -

If Trump wins there will be plenty. But they won't be investigating what happened so as to not make the same mistakes again next time. They will be find something/anything to nail Trump's hide to the wall. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

I did read that article. The real problem it seems is that the law was changed to allow other people to turn in ballots. Not mail in voting itself. But again, there is no proof here. Just conjecture. I don't see anything about votes being changed or thrown away. If that's happening it's a federal crime and should be fairly easy to catch someone doing it. Even Paul Ryan won't say it's happening or has a big effect. And if Republicans aren't voting, who's fault is that? Why can't they mail in their own ballots? They play hard ball in elections. It's not new. -

According to the JDRF, VA, and American Diabetes Association you are at no greater risk to catch Coronavirus if you have diabetes than if you don't. You have a risk for it to be worse if you are not well controlled which they define as an a1c or 9 or 10 which most people would say is not very good control. Are there any statistics on the number of deaths that do have diabetes? And as far as saying they are fat, while only 10% of diabetics are Type I, they are not fat. It is a genetic disease for them. -

People in California are idiots then. I would NEVER give my ballot to anyone to mail. It is pre paid postage. Besides I take mine to the the drop box to avoid this. As far as ballots being lost, as we know from 2000, ballots get thrown out anyway. Ever heard of ballot box 13? And, mail in has a paper trail which many state's voting systems do not have. -

Who said I had anything against that? Washington and Oregon have two of the highest percentage of people that vote in the country and they both have mail in voting. What do you have against that? -

What is your hang up with mail in voting? We do it in my state. Not sure what the rub is. I get my ballot in the mail. I fill it out in private. I put in the envelope and take it down to the drop box. Are thinking they could change the results then? What stops them from doing that in regular voting?
