  1. No. They are not allowed to make such a judgment call on a kickoff return. That might be true on a quarterback scramble or a defensive back who's just intercepted a pass, but there is a specific rule that governs how the return man must "give himself up" on a kickoff into the endzone and there is no room for the referee to make such a judgment call.
  2. I don't think that's correct, but assuming it is, what should have been the result? Safety?
  3. You keep repeating this, but are you aware that there is an actual rule regarding how a kickoff return man may "give himself up"? If so, will you admit that that rule was not followed?
  4. This is a great twitter thread from Monahan. It really should end all discussion. The Bills were literally robbed of seven (or eight) points.
  5. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but in my mind it’s really a distinction without a difference.
  6. I think this is true, but it still doesn’t excuse reversing an initial call on the field that was correct.
  7. I'm not sure which response you're referring to, but i assume you are acknowledging that the NFL rulebook does not expressly adopt this rule of reason concept that applies to US Antitrust law. You're just saying it should. Unless I'm missing something...
  8. Show me where the “rule of reason” is incorporated into the NFL rulebook as a whole or in this particular rule. Does the “rule of reason” also apply to helmet to helmet tackles or technically illegal crackback blocks, as well? if there is a rule of reason that applies generally, then every rule is subject to the referee’s opinion on any given play, right? I guess this would also apply to play clock violations too, because who cares about a second or two during an NFL game, right?
  9. It’s not that Knox wasn’t capable; it’s that he made zero effort to block a guy who had a straight line to his QB. A coordinator is not responsible for a guy who flat out failed to perform a simple task. The play was set up perfectly, and if Smith is in there, Houston might have committed more guys to stopping the run since that’s a dead giveaway.
  10. Gimme a break. A rookie in his first preseason game could have made that block and THREE NFL STARTERS whiffed on it. It was a GREAT play design and if ONE of those starters had done his job, we would have won the playoff game. Allen probably scores if someone blocks Cunningham.
  11. I didn’t even notice Morse. That’s three guys who completely failed football 101 at the most crucial time, and almost got our QB killed as well. Inexcusable.
  12. Wow, what the f**k is Knox doing? There was no one else for him to block other than Cunningham and he just ignored him. Could probably say the same thing about Ford, for that matter.
  13. Obviously despicable behavior by the "fans", but Ford needs to just ignore this crap, stay off social media and work on becoming a better football player, FFS.
  14. As pissed off as I was that we didn’t take Metcalf when he was available in round 2, I’d feel even worse if I had spent a late first round pick on a WR and it turned out to be N’Keal Harry.
  15. Not to mention Mecole Hardman and Terry McLaurin...
  16. That’s how you close out a game, McDermott.
  17. Me neither. There are probably guys like him in every draft, but it takes vision and creativity to find them and to use them properly once you’ve got them.
  18. Come on, man. You can’t see the difference between going for it on 4th and 3 (50 percent or better chance) and going for it on 4th and 27 (2 percent chance at best, especially when your QB is in deer/headlight mode)? One is smart, the other is reckless and downright dumb.
  19. I’m kinda liking Seattle’s chances right now
  20. And it looks like we’ll be the only road team to lose.
  21. Not universally... BTW, the Eagles might be better off with McCown in this game. Wentz is hugely overrated.
  22. It would also be a rematch of Super Bowl I...
  23. And of course later in the same game, common sense went straight out the window when it came to deciding to flag Ford for a “crackback” block in a critical situation.
