Could Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Miami Dolphins?
mannc replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in College Football
I believ you're wrong about how many Tide players will make it in the league and/or become stars. GunnerBill has crunched the numbers and I think you would be surprised. This year's team probably has 10 starters who will be first or second round picks. The vast majority will stick in the league for a good while and there are probably multiple future stars there, as well. -

Look, I doubt that Alabama would beat even a below average NFL team, but I think there is near zero chance that they would be physically overmatched and blown out like many here suggest. I don't know when you played in the ACC, but teams like Alabama and Clemson didn't really exist 10 or 15 years ago. They are literally stacked with NFL talent. Almost every starter will play in the NFL in the next year or two. They aren't going to be embarrassed by a team like the Dolphins. -

He's far from the only one who's said it. -

Please. You're one of my favorite posters here, but that is a pathetic argument. -

Fine. Then how do you account for the many former Tide players in the NFL (such as Marcel Dareus) who say that Alabama would win a lot of games in the NFL? Are they just wrong? Who would know better than them? -

I've never said any such thing and it really doesn't matter anyway. The point is, the talent level at a school like Alabama or Clemson is probably higher than on the Dolphins. The Phins might beat them, but they definitely would not physically overwhelm them, as many here suggest. -

So what? Are they the only NFL players who are injured? How did they get hurt? -

Where did you play D1? And when? Unless you played in the SEC recently, I suspect your college football experience is of limited value. Teams like Alabama and Clemson are simply not in the same category as most other D1 teams. How many players on the Dolphins do you think will stick in the NFL for 5 plus years? 15? 20? I'd bet Alabama has more right now and they definitely have more high-end (second round or better) talent than the Phins. I know they are somewhat biased, but ex-Tide players almost to a man say that Alabama could beat plenty of NFL teams. They would know. -

And every guy on the Dolphins is a bona fide NFL star? We're not talking about the Bills. -

Not according to NFL players who actually played at Alabama. I think they might have a pretty good idea. -

Not too many busts come out of schools like Bama and Clemson. And I'm pretty sure the Dolphins don't have anywhere near "20 long term NFL starters." -

Thank you for offering actual facts. I'm pretty sure you'll be one of the few in this thread to do so. My favorite responses are the ones that say the Tide players would all be seriously injured, as if these SEC players aren't all grown-ass men. -

There was a long thread on this issue last year, and the majority of the posts saying Alabama would get killed are like this one by Buffalo716: No real evidence offered (other than misinformation), just blanket statements with nothing to back them up. Fact: All 22 starters on Alabama this year will have a shot in the NFL, and perhaps 15-18 will make NFL rosters. Of those, most will be drafted and there are probably 6-8 who will be first round picks, although not all in 2020. On the 90-man roster, I'd guess that there are 40 or more who will have a very good shot at playing pro football. Unlike NFL teams, Alabama is not limited to one first round pick per year; each recruiting class has probably 4 to 6 future first or second round picks. Clemson and Ohio State aren't far behind. Miami on the other hand probably has 10 players who wouldn't make most NFL rosters and has a number of guys on their team who probably would not start for Alabama. Robert Foster, for example, was the Bills' best receiver last year and he was a backup at Alabama the previous year. I think it would be a competitive game and there's a good chance Alabama would win. -
Any All-Pro Bills this year?

Well, Mario never was much good in coverage. -

Haushka is a strong possibility, along with both Hyde and Poyer. -
Here’s a clue: If your test for who is an “elite” QB somehow excludes Russell Wilson, then you need a new test.

Bye Week Musings About the NFL at Large

And they don't have a kicker. Not a trivial problem for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. When did Lynn become a "horrid" HC? Because the Chargers are off to a slow start this year after losing their best defensive player, having their starting RB hold out and having to rely on an aged Philip Rivers? -

It's not going to matter. They're done. Darnold is better than Falk, but he's not a difference-maker and this team is already running for the bus. -

We are seeing once again why having a really good kicker is a near necessity if you want to be a playoff team. A great kicker can win you a couple games a year, and a bad one can cost you that many. The Pats' loss of Gostkowski for the year is a really underrated development and will probably cost them at some point. Throughout their entire dynasty, they've had Hall of Fame quality place kickers, and now suddenly, they don't. -
Brady’s had five straight sub-par outings against McDermott.
