Sean Payton not a fan of the Jets off-season
Rubes replied to The 9 Isles's topic in The Stadium Wall
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the Jets implode, crash, and burn. That said, I don't see it happening. Too much talent on both sides of the ball. They could finish any position in the division, but even if they finish last I see them taking down a bunch of contenders with that squad. -
AstroNotes 1 – Bills Training Camp July 26
Rubes replied to Rock'em Sock'em's topic in The Stadium Wall
NOW camp has started. Thanks Rastro! -
NFL Films did a piece on him not too long ago ("Barefoot in Buffalo: Todd Schlopy’s Journey From Kicking to Camerawork"). He became a Hollywood cameraman, and got a chance to film a Bills game back in 2021 (against the Commanders). It was a dream come true for him. They review that game and his role in it as well. Nice watch, only about 9 minutes long.

Cool to hear we'll have another Bills fan in Utah! I've been in SLC for the past 26 years, been all over this state and the surrounding areas. I agree that it's an amazing place, love it here. I would say that it's true that if you're not Mormon, some things can definitely be more difficult. Politics is one—if you're not Mormon, and especially if you're not Republican, forget it. Raising non-Mormom kids outside of SLC or Park City can be pretty tough for them, depending on where. And I think what @Utah John said earlier about running a business, especially outside SLC or Park City, is true to an extent, but probably less so in the last few years, owing mostly to the incredible migration of people here to Utah—largely from California. So many ex-Californians here now, even in towns like St. George. The food selection has traditionally been less than great in southern Utah, but it's gradually improving. One thing I must recommend: if you like pie, there are two stunningly good but small pie bakeries around St. George: Croshaw's and Veyo Pies. Croshaw's is in St. George; Veyo is in the town of Veyo about 20 minutes north of St. George in a really pretty area. Cedar City is also less than an hour north, and though it's a small town it's also a college town with some neat little places, and they have a nationally recognized Shakespeare festival every fall, if you're into that sort of thing. If you ever get up to SLC look me up, we have a great Bills bar pretty close to my house. Congrats on the move!

Jets and Quinnen Williams agree on 4-year 96 million deal
Rubes replied to Gregg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jets held us to 17 and 20 points last year, and it ain’t getting any easier next year… -
Good stuff, thanks. I have read about Bogart's and I think it's fairly close to where we're staying, so I think I'll check it out. Wife is from Peoria, IL, seems that gooey butter cake has made it up there...soooo good.
-
I have heard this too. Unfortunately, I must stay in St. Louis… Nice, I’ll check it out!
-
Well, I guess that's something...

Going there later this month and I get one chance to go out for some excellent BBQ. Looking for the expertise here to suggest a place that I shouldn't miss. Thanks!!

My bad. By "OP", I meant the person who made the statement I was referring to (in this case, @Nextmanup).

I think what the OP was saying was, “but I hope he will not be the booth again.”

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Beane fan and I love this roster...but with regard to #1 and #3, you have to at least admit that the reason he needed to do those things this year is because his previous investments didn't pan out. I mean, 3 recent high picks on the DL wasn't enough to secure pass rush depth, and we've had a revolving door at Guard the past few seasons. Not every move works out for a GM, for sure, but it sucks that he has had to repeatedly sink resources into those two things. That said, I'd still take Beane over just about anyone at this point.

What’s up with Gambling int he NFL amongst NFL Players?
Rubes replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall
...wait, what? -
The world needs glue too, my man.

Mostly just in the vein of "how did we specifically improve from last year." I mean, in this one they have Singletary lined up essentially as an OL next to Saffold, probably because they figured he would completely screw up the threatened blitz.
-
This guy has been tweeting today about Josh's work in the Bengals playoff game, but all I see is Saffold getting repeatedly embarrassed. I don't know if there was something going on with him that game, like an injury or something, but this is just brutal. Gives me hope for next year, since the others on the line seem to be doing a pretty decent job in pass blocking, even Brown.

Chuck Pollock retiring from Olean Times Herald after 50 years
Rubes replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall
I liked occasionally reading his columns. He has an old-school style and perspective that I'll miss, as the internet void gets filled by barely-literate, glorified bloggers with no particular inside information and opinions passed on as "knowledge." Now get off my lawn!! -
I don't have anything to add to the discussion other than this is a pretty interesting and cool thread. Thanks OP!

Uniform Identity & Changes (What is behind it)
Rubes replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sorry if I missed this, but just curious why you would consider TB "mixed"? -
So the Jags get two games in a row in London, and the second is against Buffalo? That mean they will stay there and be more adjusted to the jetlag than we will be?
-
I feel like I should get at least some credit for the deal almost being done, having started that thread...

Will the AFC East beat up on each other the way everyone expected the AFC West to do it last year?

Sort of what you mean, but my favorite/worst example of this was back during the dark times, in the Monday Night season opener against New England**** in 2009. I had to board a plane that evening, can't remember to where, and I sat in the boarding area watching everything I could as long as I could. They were getting to last call for boarding when Freddie scored on the excellently called and beautifully executed screen pass to give the Bills an 11-point lead with just over 5 minutes left in the game. At that point, I boarded the plane with feelings of joy and hope, knowing I wouldn't be able to know the results until we landed. By the time we landed, it was past midnight, and the arrival airport was dark and mostly abandoned. There was a TV on in the middle of the terminal so I stood there and waited for the score scrawl at the bottom. When I saw the final was 25-24 Pats****, I nearly ***** my pants right there in the airport. I walked out of the airport in a daze. In retrospect, I am so glad I didn't have to watch that collapse in real time. Second best (but really the best) was the other season opener against New England****, the one in 2003. Had to go to a friend's wedding and we were again on a plane the way back during the game. I didn't hear a thing about the game, and found out after we landed that the final was 31-0. That was a sweet feeling.

Nope, I guess I don’t “no”! -

Hey, I wasn't the one triggered by a new topic on a message board. Would be good if you took your own advice.
