How did you feel waking up this morning?
Albany,n.y. replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Richer. I bet 4 different future bets on the Bills before the season started. I get paid for each win through win 9, with bigger payoffs with each win & a final payoff when they make the playoffs. Win 8 got me even, win 9 will get me ahead & any win that gets us closer to the playoffs will be worth more. Because I tiered the bets, it was low risk, higher reward than just a bet at over one set win total. -
Josh Allen highest ranked ELO in AFC East now...

Three with 1 win became 5 with 2 wins. I'd never want either of you working on my tax return. -
Steelers QB Mason Rudolph fined $50K by NFL
Albany,n.y. replied to stosh64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Letting Rudolph play is a bigger punishment to the Steelers than suspending him. ? -
I'm guessing from your name you weren't around when race was considered when it came to QBs. Good for you & your generation, but it clearly was a factor back in the 60s, 70s & 80s and the years before those decades. It was only around the 1990s that things changed to the point that your last statement is now true. Here's what the Buffalo Evening News said the day after Harris was drafted: (From Relentless P158): "...in the eighth round , they selected James Harris, a black quarterback from Grambling. A Buffalo Evening News headline read: ' A 6-4 N-egro QB, Harris, drafted 8th by the Bills.' The story said Harris 'is a n-egro, one of the few of his race to be drafted as a quarterback in pro football.' "

I think you're on to something: 1) Doug Williams -1st to be a 1st round pick in the NFL & 1st to win a Super Bowl 2) Steve McNair-3rd pick in the draft, 2nd to start a Super Bowl 3) James Harris-1st to start a season as a starting QB 4) Michael Vick-1st to be the #1 pick of the entire draft 5) Marlin Briscoe-1st to be a starting QB (one year before Harris became the 1st to start a season opener) In all probability, since the 2 leading MVP candidates are black QBs, there was a discussion about the history of the black QB and these 5 were deemed the most historical who paved the way for this generation of black QBs. It is a significant topic because without these pioneers, Russell Wilson may have been deemed too short to ever get the chance & Lamar Jackson may have been told to be a WR, like Briscoe ended up & Bill Polian said he should be before the draft.

How cold will it be in upper bowl on Sunday
Albany,n.y. replied to BananaB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets game was 3 weeks earlier on 12/26/93. Once again going back to Relentless, the game was the coldest Bills game ever at the time but that status changed with the Raiders game 3 weeks later. The temperature was 9 above with a minus 28 windchill. -

I brought a garbage bag filled with old newspapers to try to keep my feet warm. The game was on 1/15/94 with a minus 32 windchill -You were right, it was zero degrees. I knew it was against the Raiders, but I looked up the exact date and windchill in Relentless. -
There has to be some criteria that the OP missed. There are too many better QBs than Harris and Briscoe. 3 of them have already been mentioned and there are several playing now better than those 2. My guess is they are the top 5 who were told before the draft to change positions if they wanted to play in the NFL, although I don't think Vick was ever told that.

Bills future QB ranking- 8th in league
Albany,n.y. replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You should have invested in Bills futures before the season. A lot of us did and are reaping the benefits of the underestimation of this year's team. -

Jets & Vikings too low; Steelers, Patriots, Panthers too high. -
It's hard to take NE's injury report seriously ever since the time they listed half the team on it just to PO the NFL.
-
Texans lead the division they'd have to lose a few to be in contention for a wild card.
-
If you call being on injured reserve after week 4 a poor season, then he's having a poor season. He's not having a poor season, he's been out for the season since week 4. I guess if you look at how many TDs Roethlisberger has thrown this year, he's having a poor season too. This is another example of looking at stats out of context. BTW, it's not personal, I hate football stats of all kinds and you just gave me a chance to condemn stats and I took it.

The irony is that if Chubb was gone by pick 5 the Bills had a deal in place to trade picks 12, 22 & 53 to Denver in a trade up for Allen. So instead of the question being whether the Broncos should have taken Chubb instead of Allen, the debate in Denver would be were the Broncos right in trading away the pick the Bills used for Allen. I guess that would now depend on who the Broncos picked. If they had used the 3 picks for 3 starters and one of the 1st rounders was Lamar Jackson they would be calling Elway a genius.

revisiting 2018 draft possibilities. Did we overpay?
Albany,n.y. replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NFL GMs agree! In the years 2016-2018 there were 11 1st round QBs taken and 10 of them were acquired via a trade up in the draft to get them. -
revisiting 2018 draft possibilities. Did we overpay?
Albany,n.y. replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's the problem, neither you or Alphadawg are employed by the Bills. The real employees had a list of their top 6 QBs (as leaked with photos of their board before the draft) and Jackson wasn't on that list. They had the QBs rated in order, Allen, Darnold, & Mayfield=they were willing to trade up as high as 5 if any of those 3 were available. After that the remaining 3, in order were Rosen, Rudolph & Lauletta-NO JACKSON. So the whole premise that we could have stood pat & taken Jackson without trading up doesn't work because they would have taken either Rosen (who is looking like the bust of that QB class) or Rudolph, who isn't exactly lighting things up in Pittsburgh. I'd rather have traded up for Allen than be stuck with bust Rosen or mediocre Rudolph, or worse yet, Lauletta who got cut after 1 season with the NYG. Any way you look at it, the Bills were never drafting Jackson, no matter what your opinion was before the draft. You can only be critical of the team not drafting a player they were interested in. The Bills scouts never liked Jackson. Over the years there are a lot of pre-draft posts about players the poster wants the Bills to draft. When one plays better than the player the team the poster posts something similar to what you've done, however if the team didn't like the player to begin with, your whole point is moot. -

Issues with WGR/Radio.com app?
Albany,n.y. replied to Bills fan since 87's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a much better option. Very few problems and it goes to WGR immediately without having to watch/listen to an ad when one opens it. -
I'm still waiting for the official word. Yes it's on the Spectrum cable guide & the Times Union sports section but this has happened before & we didn't get the Bills game. When I see the ad during the Ch 6 news saying Denver/Buffalo 1 PM Sunday, then I'll believe it. I find it hard to believe they'll take Bills/Denver over Jets/Raiders since the Raiders are doing Ok & have a much bigger national fan base than Denver.

Adam Gase and the decision to cut Jordan Phillips

Gase never wanted Bell. -
...and lost 29-3 while throwing 4 INTs. I'd rather have a QB who doesn't throw for 300 yards and leads the team to 37 points and a 17 point win than a guy who throws over 300 yards and loses by 26.

This is why they give the Super Bowl numbers. Everyone knew what the OP meant. Just because ESPN lists the season by the year it starts doesn't make them correct. I've seen other sources refer to it as the 1990-91 season and all other NFL seasons that have made it to January & February using both years, just like the NBA & NHL. Both of you are both right & wrong.
