  1. Brunell didn't wander until late in his career. He was drafted by GB, sat behind Favre for 2 years, got traded to Jacksonville & became entrenched as their starter for years. Not For Long.
  2. I lived 1.5 miles north of the stadium, off Abbott Rd, in 1977. I walked to the 1st 2 home games, so I was in the stands. There's a very good chance I yelled "you suck" at him every time he missed a FG in each of those 2 games.
  3. There's only one way Tua falls to 54: His medical reports are so bad that his ever having a career in the NFL is doubtful. So why would anyone use the team's 1st pick in the draft on a player whose medical reports indicate he may never play? McGahee was a 1st round pick.
  4. The UFL lasted 3 seasons & part of a 4th, a lot longer than the AAF & XFL-each could not complete even 1 season. I went to 1 game in Hartford on Thursday night 11/12/09. The NY Sentinels played a game in Hartford & even though they claimed the attendance was 5,201, I was counting the people in the stands & got between 1,500 & a little less than 2,000 allowing for people in bathrooms & at concession stands at the high end. It was pretty easy to count because most of the people were at the 1st level around midfield & I was able to calculate the total seats in the 2 sections and just subtract the empty seats. The rest of the scattered attendance was easy to count on a person by person basis. I also took pictures of every section of the stadium in the 1st half and verified my count after I got home the following afternoon. The next morning I got a copy of the Hartford Courant newspaper beforeI went home & after I got home I got into an e-mail argument with the guy who wrote the column on the game because he said the attendance was 5,201 & I e-mailed him asking him why he didn't mention the attendance was a false figure. At one point he said I couldn't know it wasn't 5,201 & I told him I had counted and taken photos & I could send the photos to him & he could count them himself, but I never got to the point of sending him a bunch of e-mails, as the files were too big to send in 1 e-mail (I tried in my 1st e-mail to attach the photos & the e-mail got rejected as too large from my provider) After that attendance fiasco, the UFL moved the team to Hartford for the 2010 season & played 4 home games as the Hartford Colonials. The attendance for each of the 4 games was announced as around 14,000, but I can't believe it was anywhere near that based on the low turnout of the game I attended & the fake attendance announced at that game. The Colonials suspended operations for the 2011 season & never played another game after 2010. They're never coming back, well at least not until the 2039 season based on their having a season once every 19 years.
  5. He has to drink something strong to wash that dick taste out of his mouth.
  6. In reality, they have very similar career paths through their 1st 5 years. Primary starter for 5 years after being the #1 pick in the draft. Not wanted by his team after 5 seasons as their starting QB. Carr went on to be a backup and his career lasted a decade. Winston still has a shot of outdoing Carr, but to say Winston is that much better than Carr through their 1st 5 seasons just isn't true. There are a lot of teams that would be willing to bring in Winston as a backup if he is willing to accept a backup salary. My prediction: Pittsburgh.
  7. 2020 season will start in February 2021. 2021 season will start a month later, in October 2021 instead of September 2021, since the NFL season will end in July.
  8. I'm predicting July 11 2021. I see this unique NFL season using a similar time frame of the final USFL season. The USFL's championship game was on 7/14/85. The 2021 season will start 1 month later, in October.
  9. For those who don't have The Athletic, here's the list with the comments in the article edited out to protect the innocent. I left the QB comments in. 10) S Bacarri Rambo, 2014 9) LB Brandon Spoon, 2001 8) WR Josh Reed, 2002 7) QB Kyle Orton, 2014 Not fully convinced in quarterback EJ Manuel, the Bills and then-coach Doug Marrone made what seemed like a panic move right before the 2014 season, signing the 31-year-old Orton to a two-year deal as insurance. Manuel imploded in Week 4 in Houston (the J.J. Watt interception game), the Bills were 2-2 and Marrone turned to Orton the rest of the way. Orton basically walked in cold and had one of the most prolific passing seasons in team history. His 3,018 yards over 12 games was on pace for the second 4,000-yard season in Bills history. In fairness, Jim Kelly likely would have accomplished the feat in 1991 (166 yards shy) if he played in all 16 games. Orton’s legendary moment that season was being photographed outside Ford Field smoking a cigar within an hour of beating the Lions. Following the 9-7 season, at locker room cleanout day, reporters wanted to talk to Orton about 2015. Orton grabbed his wallet from his locker and told the media he’d be right back to talk. Fifteen minutes later, the Bills bellowed through the locker room that Orton was retiring. He never did come back to chat, leaving the same way as he arrived — without any warning and in an unforgettable way. 6) RB Karlos Williams, 2015 5) LB Kiko Alonso, 2013 4) QB J.P. Losman, 2006 After the Bills missed out on the first wave of quarterbacks in the 2004 NFL Draft, they moved back into the first round to select Losman, surrendering their 2005 first-round pick to do so. That next year was when Aaron Rodgers fell to 24th overall and Green Bay eagerly selected Brett Favre’s successor. The Bills would have had the 20th pick in that draft. During that 2006 season, Losman teased fans with big games in an otherwise frustrating campaign. One that stands out is the Bills’ Nov. 19 win over Houston, when Losman hit Lee Evans for an 83-yard touchdown twice in the first quarter. Flashes of brilliance and moments of torture defined the Losman era. In 2007, Losman suffered an injury in Week 3, returned to the lineup six weeks later and was permanently benched by Week 13. He went 2-5 with four touchdowns and six interceptions in 2007, and was off the roster by 2009. 3) WR Peerless Price, 2002 2) RB C.J. Spiller, 2012 1) QB Trent Edwards, 2008 While Edwards doesn’t have the statistical prowess of some others on this list, his name — and the start to the 2008 season — will forever stick in the minds of the fan base. The Bills used a third-round pick on Edwards in 2007, and after Losman was injured, Edwards began to make his mark. The Bills gave him the reins by Week 13 of his rookie year and had high hopes heading into 2008. Edwards famously received rave reviews from all-time NFL great Bill Walsh. The Bills thought they were on to something, and for a brief moment they were right. Edwards and the Bills started 2008 on fire. They won their first four games of the season and the league began to take notice. In Week 5, Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson knocked Edwards out of the game with a concussion and the Bills went on to lose 41-17 — a moment many believe was the catalyst for Edwards never regaining his form. Two weeks after that, though, Edwards came back to beat the San Diego Chargers in one of his best games of the season, completing 25 of 30 passes for 261 yards. Then Edwards’ downward spiral began. He started turning the ball over in bunches, throwing eight interceptions over his next four games. To counteract the turnovers, Edwards started to take fewer chances down the field. He injured his groin and missed two games late in the year. After the promising 5-1 start, the Bills wound up 7-9 and missed the playoffs once again. Edwards was never the same, even while starting seven games in 2009. The Bills named him the starter in 2010, but that didn’t last, especially after Edwards’ final play in a 34-7 drubbing by the Packers. Down 27 points and facing a 4th-and-11 late in the fourth quarter, Edwards ran the ball out of bounds for four yards rather than heaving it down the field to make a play. The Bills benched Edwards that week in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick and released him eight days later. The 2008 season will always be “the one that got away.” Honorable mentions (in chronological order): S Keion Carpenter, 2000 TE Mark Campbell, 2004 S Ko Simpson, 2006 LB John DiGiorgio, 2007 WR Terrell Owens, 2009 S Cary Harris, 2009 LB Arthur Moats, 2010 RB Mike Gillislee, 2016 WR Robert Foster, 2018 DT Jordan Phillips, 2019
  10. This OP is beyond ridiculous. 1st off he needs to keep his day job because scouting isn't in his future. 2nd, even if the Bills were crazy, how in the world would they move up from pick 54 to the top 10? Well, I guess it could be done by trading Josh Allen for 2 #1s, but trading him for a medical mystery would be insane.
  11. I think the Patriots are a lock to draft a kicker this year.
  12. All this Lombardi talk reminded me of one of the great blowhards of NFL television-Fred Edelstein. Eventually, he was arrested for fraud. Here's something I found written by Gil Brandt : There used to be a guy named Fred Edelstein who would put out his own little independent news reports about the NFL. He had pretty good sources inside the league and he'd put out certain things. Well, Edelstein was on ESPN during the 1992 NFL Draft, and he came out and said he knew without a doubt who the San Francisco 49ers were going to pick before it was their turn. When their turn came up, they picked Dana Hall -- not who Edelstein had predicted. Edelstein's explanation? "Well, I guess they lied to me."
  13. I don't think I'll be going to any games this year. I used to go to every home game a decade ago, but I've cut down to 1 game in Buffalo & games when the Bills are in NJ (Usually the Jets, but last year I went to both Jets & Giants games. I was hoping to get to see the Bills out west if they were scheduled to play in Las Vegas or San Francisco around Thanksgiving week, but I doubt I'll be making my annual trip to California this year since I'm old & in the endangered group. Until there's a vaccine or it's totally gone, I won't be going to any games or flying anywhere.
  14. I brought a garbage bag filled with old newspapers to keep my feet warm because the only part of me that got too cold during the Jets game was my feet. I always came well prepared for cold with stuff like Damart thermals, insulated boots & a ski mask, but my feet still froze at the Jets game, so I brought the bag of papers. To be honest, it was so long ago I don't remember how well the bag with papers worked, but I still have all my toes. PS: Since we had back to back weeks of playoff games I decided not to drive both weeks, so after the Raiders game I left my car at the Depew train station & went back to Albany on the train after the 1st game and came back by train the following weekend. It was different not having my car that week & taking the bus to work.
  15. There's a very easy way to bring in a veteran QB like Cam. Sign him to a 2 year contract with a low 2020 base salary. Have a big roster bonus on March 1st. Work into the contract that if he reaches certain milestones, his contract for 2021, including the roster bonus become guaranteed. Then they either pay him the $ or restructure in 2021. This is Cam betting on himself, but with his injury history he will have to sign a contract with a low salary & a lot of incentives, or something like I've proposed. I don't see any Super Bowl contender seriously considering Winston. He, like Mariotta, will have to go the Tannehill career rehabilitation path.
  16. Here's the other side on that one. If the Bills didn't have 2 picks within 2 slots of the 1st round, odds are since QB is so much more important than TE, the Bills would have drafted Kelly at #12 without pick #14 & never would have drafted bust TE Tony Hunter.
  17. I have a better one: 1989 5th round pick Michael Andrews, who was the 3rd player drafted by the Bills that year since they had no 1st & 2nd round picks. After the Bills drafted him they discovered a medical problem that was bad enough that he couldn't play in the NFL. Andrews NEVER MAKE IT INTO CAMP.
  18. Since none of us know what McDermott said in his long interview I'll take a guess at how he started & why the Pegulas fell in love with him: "Thank you for this interview. The biggest problem with this organization is you have a losing culture. If I owned this team the 1st thing I'd do is fire Doug Whaley. He was part of the team that drafted EJ Manuel and traded an extra #1 and more picks for Sammy Watkins. Heck, you won't even let the guy speak in public anymore, why is he still here? I know a guy down in Carolina named Brandon Beane who is a great public speaker and a great football mind. Hire me and I'll get him here. Now let's talk about my plans for coaching this team..."
  19. Looking back to the draft held 5 years ago, many teams came out disappointed in the results. A 1st round pick is supposed to be a difference maker & be with the team beyond 5 years, yet of the 32 picks, due to injuries, busts & free agents looking to move on, only 7 are still with the team that drafted them. Even worse, of the top 10, only 1 player is still on his drafted team. The 1st 2, QBs Winston & Mariotta fell out of favor & were not wanted back by their teams after 5 seasons. Any QB at the top of the draft who is jettisoned after 5 years is a wasted pick. The Bills, who didn't have a 1st rounder, didn't pick a single player of much consequence and none are still with the team. 2nd rounder Darby was traded after 2 seasons for a 1 year rental of Matthews and a 3rd round pick (H. Phillips). Due to injuries he has been a disappointment and recently signed with his 3rd team as a UFA. 3rd rounder Miller lasted 4 up & down seasons with the Bills and lasted only 1 year with Cincinnati after signing with them. He also is now on his 3rd team. The rest of the picks were JAGs who have bounced around with only 1 of the remaining 4 still (barely) in the league. Ironically, one of the best picks of that draft was Minnesota's 5th rounder, WR Stefon Diggs. While he too is no longer with his original team, Minnesota got a haul of draft choices from the Bills. The players from the 2015 draft currently on the Bills are Diggs, Yeldon, Morse, Feliciano, & undrafted Spain, so the Bills got something out of the class of 2015 .
  20. My point was he usually uses picks where he has multiple picks in the same round when he trades up. He never leaves the cupboard bare. Most of those picks were acquired by jettisoning players the Bills didn't want or who were on the last years of their contracts & weren't going to be re-signed.
  21. Here's something interesting about Beane's trades-most of the picks that were used to trade up were extra picks acquired when the Bills traded players for picks that weren't in their long term plans. Since Beane wasn't here in 2017, let's look only at the drafts he was here for: 2018: Allen trade up: Players traded to acquire the picks needed-Glenn to move up to 12, Watkins, on the final year of his contract for 2nd rounder used in trade. Beane used only 1 of the Bills own original picks(own 2nd rounder) to trade up from 21 to 7. 2018 Edmunds trade up: Beane used none of the Bills own picks to get Edmunds. The 22nd pick was acquired in the trade before he got here & the 3rd rounder was stolen from Cleveland for Tyrod Taylor, a player on the final year of his contract who was not in the Bills 2018 plans. 2019 Ford trade up: Beane used the 5th rounder he acquired from Oakland for AJ McCarron, who was not going to make the 2018 Bills. 2019 Knox trade up: Beane used the 4th from KC in the Ragland trade as well as our own to move up for Knox. 2020 Diggs trade: The 2 picks beyond the 1st this year were acquired for 2 guys who weren't going to make the team-Teller & Bodine. The Bills used next year's 4th for this year's 7th from Minnesota. Conclusion: Beane covets his own draft choices, but is always willing to trade up, but only when he doesn't have to use too many of his original picks. He considers picks he's acquired in trades for players the team had little use for as chips that he can use to move up. In all the trades above, Beane used 8 picks to move up (not including the base pick in that round or the next round if trading back into a round, like the Knox trade). Of those 8 picks, 7 were extra picks acquired in trades for players the Bills felt were expendable to begin with either due to contract status, inability to make the 53 man roster, or just a bad fit. Of those extra picks, the only players still on the teams they were traded to are Ragland & Teller.
  22. You better be careful making that bet. Beane loves trading up in the early rounds choosing quality over quantity.
  23. Miami would trade Rosen in a heartbeat if anyone offered them any pick before the 8th round. Miami isn't afraid of dumping hot garbage on anyone if they offered a pick. Unlike some other posters I have nothing against Rosen, but he's a total bust as a NFL QB.
  24. The only tickets Rosen will help sell is to his family and once he's benched for Tyrod they won't even watch. OC will mold him for the XFL .
  25. It's easy for NE to work around their cap problems. They can either sign him to a long term contract & spread the bonus out, or sign him to a 2 year deal at a low 2020 salary with incentives that include a big roster bonus in March 2021 where if he hits the incentives his contract for 2021, including the March roster bonus, is all guaranteed. Then he can either play on the contract or renegotiate. If Cam is willing to bet on himself, like Sherman did in SF, a deal with NE can be reached.
