Nobody knows what Belichick thinks about drafting QBs because for 20 years he was only drafting for backup QBs. -
Ro-ro for "Right Josh" Rosen
Albany,n.y. replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It drives me crazy when I see someone on TV or on the radio say that after his 1st 2 seasons Josh was headed towards the bust column (Cowherd is among the worst of them) because they looked at stats totally out of context. Those of us who rely on watching games without a stat sheet could see the special things he is capable of doing. Now in all fairness to those skeptics, he did have a rough 2nd season throwing the (low % for just about every NFL QB) deep passes but that was in part due to the fact he kept throwing the low % throws. I remember before Diggs arrived I'd be watching some of the top QBs be bailed out because they had a true #1 WR to throw to & I'd be thinking if Josh had a guy like that to throw to everyone would get off his case. -
What happens with Jake Fromm?

I think the Raiders get him for free. Gruden seems to like ex-Bills as much as McDermott & Beane like ex-Panthers. -
Every fan should go to at least 1 draft. Mine was in 1997 the 1st day in NYC (Bills drafted Antowain Smith) Now the reason I went was because I had to be at my parents house in Long Island that weekend & they didn't have cable, so I either had to go or not see it. My father drove me to the railroad station at 4:30 AM, I got to Penn Station where the draft was around the corner & went to the line to get a wrist band since it was 1st come 1st served. Once I got my wristband with a number I had some time to kill, so I went back to Penn station. At one time during my wait I went into the Long Island Railroad waiting area. There were some homeless people there sleeping. A short time after I arrived, while I was reading that day's newspapers & my draft materials, the police came & kicked out everyone without a railroad ticket. After I produced my round trip ticket, I was just about the only one left after the homeless got evicted. A couple of hours later I went to the line to get into the smaller building next to Madison Square Garden then called the Felt Forum. I got in chose a seat as close to where they allowed fans-the media had seats reserved closer to the stage in front of us, so I was about 2-3 rows behind the media. They had a concession stand for food & pick the draft contests. They gave out some draft information with the contest so that nobody was picking blind. Overall it was a good experience, but I never went back because at home I can have the TV on, switch to the different stations covering the draft (It used to be 1 but now it's 3) and I can listen to WGR on the computer. One year I had 2 TVs on and WGR on in the bedroom I used as an office, all at the same time.

Never been so disinterested in a draft
Albany,n.y. replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've had a problem with the draft since it was moved to the final Thursday of April. It used to be a week earlier and I'd watch every round. Now it's the same weekend as the Kentucky Derby and Derby day is all horse racing for me. I used to have the draft & then the next week the Derby. I hate that the 2 are now in conflict. I'll still watch Thursday & Friday, but the draft just isn't the same for me on Derby weekend since I'll still be handicapping the horses the days of the draft. Last year it didn't matter because they moved the Derby to later in the year & I didn't even consider it a real Derby so I had the draft & football season with no Derby conflict. -
I think the Chargers over is the best bet of the bunch. I can't see them worse than 10-7 & they'll end up winning 11 or 12 games. No Anthony Lynn, who may have been the worst gameday coach in the league and forward career movement of their potential franchise QB in his 2nd year. I didn't play any over/unders last year but in 2019 I was all over the Bills. At the casino in Schenectady you could bet over up to 9 games & whether they would make the playoffs. The odds got better the higher I went. I tiered my bets so the break even point was 8 wins. I swept all my bets.

What's interesting is I got my Excelsior Pass & it expires on 9/22. I guess they're waiting to see if a booster shot will be needed. I also have my CDC card. After the DMV rejected my birth certificate for my enhanced license because I taped it because it was falling apart, I'm not laminating anything from the government unless they instruct us to do so. (Fortunately I had another copy that I had sent away for so I was able to get my enhanced license)

Back in 2018 I was one of those people who thought the Jets had outmaneuvered us when they moved from #6 to #3. My 1st reaction was the Jets were going to screw us out of getting the QB we wanted. It sure didn't work out that way. One season of Darnold & Mike Maccagnan, the GM who I thought pulled off the draft coup, was fired by the Jets.

Give Buddy Nix a call & he'll know. He knew not to draft Russell Wilson before the 4th round & made a great move up for TJ Graham because he knew he wouldn't last & Wilson would definitely be there in the 4th round. Sarcasm aside, you never wait for another round to draft a player you want because you think you can get away with letting him slip a round. NEVER!

Are teams trading too many assets to get a QB?
Albany,n.y. replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's a reason why teams are willing to give up so much for a highly rated QB I looked at all the drafts since the modern draft began in the mid 1960s with when the AFL-NFL war ended. Your best shot of getting the long term answer at QB is in the top 10 picks of the draft. The hit rate on top 10 QBs is about 50%. Now this becomes a glass half full or half empty issue, but 50% is pretty high compared with the rest of the draft. Once you go past pick 10, the rest of the 1st round drops to a 30% hit rate. That's consistent with the Bills last 3 #1s below pick 10: Kelly, Losman, Manuel. Now you can try to find your guy in the 2nd round. Hits include Brees, Favre, Cunningham, Esaison,... but the hit rate goes down to 20%, and its been getting tougher in recent years to find a starter in the 2nd round. The only recent 2nd rounders who became starters were D. Carr, Garoppolo, Dalton & Kaepernick. Philadelphia is hoping Hurts can be added to that list, but the jury is still out on him. So teams know that to have much more than just a shot in the dark, the best way to get your long term answer at QB is a top 10 pick. -
Which QB do you want the Jets to draft?
Albany,n.y. replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They won't cut him. They can get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him. We got the 1st pick of the 3rd round for Tyrod when, like Darnold, he was on the last year of his contract. -

With the 2nd pick of the NFL draft, I want the Jets to pick Dustin Crum QB Kent State. Is he a reach, sure, but the OP asked which QB do I want the Jets to draft. and as a Bills fan, I want the Jets to make the worst possible decision. Plus, when he plays poorly the NY Post & Daily News back pages can say "Crum-y QB sinks Jets" -
Are teams trading too many assets to get a QB?
Albany,n.y. replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They had no choice since they drafted Tua in the top 5 a year ago & don't consider him a bust. They couldn't draft another QB, so it was best to trade out of the pick. When Arizona drafted back to back #1 QBs in 2018 & 2019 it was because they could see that Rosen was a bust & got something for him before the whole league knew what they knew. If they thought they had something in Rosen, they would have traded out of the top spot. It still amazes me that Daniel Jones was picked 6th in the entire draft. I thought the Giants would take Jones, but I thought it would be at pick 17. Obviously Miami thinks that Tua is the answer, or at least hopes he is. Now if Houston had been bad enough to get Miami the top pick, I have no doubt they would be selecting Lawrence & trading Tua, but pick 3 only gets you the 3rd best QB prospect in this year's draft. -
Better, knows to keep his clothes on outside of the locker room and parts of his house.

When the Bills traded up to #12 in 2018 and within a week the Jets traded up from 6 to 3, I was convinced that the Jets had screwed over the Bills & would get the better QB in 2018. Fortunately for the Bills & unfortunately for the Jets the Jets picked the wrong guy & the Bills picked the right guy. While there's some luck involved, the teams with the better scouts & management will always come out ahead of the mismanaged teams in the long run. We were mismanaged for so many years that by the time Beane, McDermott and the new scouting staff arrived any QB pick we made was questioned by the fans. When I read the stories of how diligent the Bills were in scouting the QB class of 2018 from watching tape of every one of Josh's plays in college to watching him on the sidelines to seeing how he interacted with the Bills office staff, it's like they wrote the book on how to scout and draft a franchise QB. I get on the people I call the "stat boys" at times, and in 2018 the stat boys wanted nothing to do with Josh Allen. It doesn't matter how the game has changed over the years, film study will always be more important than looking blindly at QB stats and so does the due diligence of interviewing a player & the coaches who coach him. When the Raiders chose JaMarcus Russell with the #1 pick they didn't do enough due diligence. At one point Matt Millen called Al Davis specifically to warn him how much of a slug Russell was after Millen interviewed Russell & Russell was horrible during the meeting. Millen was honestly trying to warn Davis but old Al wouldn't listen. It was pretty close to the same thing the year SD drafted Ryan Leaf after he came to the combine out of shape & blew off an interview with the Colts. Then after he was drafted Leaf told the Chargers he was going to party in Las Vegas as long as he wanted before coming to SD for an introductory presser. I heard the Leaf story on the radio one day years ago when they were interviewing an ex-Charger front office man & he was asked when was the 1st time you knew you were in trouble by drafting Ryan Leaf. They should have known about his flawed character before the draft, not right after they drafted him. -
