  1. There was a Bills post game show on Sunday Night in the early 70's. I think it was on that station that was on Grand Island. I believe it was where Paul Mcguire got his start in broadcasting. If I remember correctly Harry Jacobs and Art Stratton were the other two commentators. Those late 60, early 70 teams were brutal. I remember Jacobs saying, "when we played it was 4 yards and a cloud of dust. Now, it's 2 yards and a cloud of excuses." Even the ex-players were frustrated. I also remember McGuire complaining when he played in 69 about a great punt he had. "Just my luck I kick the longest punt of the year and on the same day some guy kicks a 98 yarder." Also back then it seems I knew every starting player on the team. Not just the Bills but their opponents. Lots of great players back then in the AFL.
  2. The point is, they did get to that point. There is no guarantee if Flutie played they would have even made it that far. And I was not in favor of Johnson playing, I wanted Flutie to play.
  3. Seems I remember Johnson leaving the field with just seconds left in the game ahead. Ultimately it was not his fault.
  4. Ralonzo, did you ever see the video of a comparison test of a Chevy from the 60's to a modern Chevy. Might change your mind about structural integrity, although I will say an i3 is too small for me.
  5. As soon as they hired Rex I had the same thought. That is 75% of the load Polian was refering to. Problem now is can he co-exist with Rex.
  6. It's a real shame the Bills play the Jags this year. I hear it takes two years for Marrone to work his real magic on an Offensive Line.
  7. what was the rest of the league during that time?
  8. I wonder how many here get that.
  9. Nice post. I would add, if you are someone who thinks the Bills should have had a better record this year because they had the talent, there is no question of what you should think of Whaley.
  10. Ultimately, whether it is an inexperience coach or a Super Bowl winning coach, the only thing that defines a good hire versus a bad hire is when you look back at it retrospectively. I tend to believe a lot of posters here think you just hire a certain guy and that guarantees success. It never does. The list of losers, both experienced and inexperienced far exceeds the successful list. Take Marv Levy. I thought it was a terrible hire. A marginal head coach if there ever was one when he was hired. But I am sure most here think he was one of the best head coaches the Bills ever had.
  11. "And the reason he had a bad offense is that Buffalo has no quarterback, no healthy running backs, and their front office cut their best wide receiver. I don't know about their o-line, but I haven't heard about it being one of the worst in the league or anything like that." It appears Jerry Seinfeld is a member of that forum. See who that guy says cut Williams. Yeah, Marrone had nothing to do with it.
  12. I would have likely asked this without the changes. I believe the money is heavily on the D, considering the cost of the line. Teams only have so much to spend so typically it is hard to both strong offenses and strong defenses, at the same time. This is significant in the present situation, because I would think Schwartz would feel snubbed if not named the head coach. However, if Schwartz stays, with the D that is strong, versus one that may be unknown, it may be a better career move in the long run.
  13. And some were worried we would not lose him after the first year.
  14. If Marrone and Hackett both coached him and he looked decent in College, he must be good. That is a lot to overcome.
  15. Are there any possibilies it the CFL?
  16. The most accurate post in this entire thread.
  17. And how do you know he didn't tell Marrone??
  18. There is another angle to this that I haven't seen anyone mention. Fire Maronne now and think what that does to your future coaching possibilities. He didn't make the playoffs but he appeared to make a large step in the correct direction. Future coaches wouldn't want to be on a very short leash, especially when things are getting better. BTW, it is amazing how those two cheap wins create perception. This team could have just as easily have been 6-10 and I wouldn't be making the comment above.
  19. I agree, he would be lucky to be average today. But it is unfair to compare any athlete from that far back to today's. How would Jim Thorpe do at the Olympics! But he was as good as there was back then.
  20. You are wrong. The guys laughing are DC's.
  21. Congrats. It seems you are the only one aware of this.
  22. And what does the consultant do when he realizes the CEO is the chief moron?
  23. I fear you are correct.
  24. If a Bill hits anyone that far out of bounds, it is automatic. I am a bit surprised the players on the sideline did not make a bigger stink about it.
  25. The one thing that is really forgotten is how good a bust really is. Probably above 99.999% of all football players. Same in all the other sports. I am always impressed by the supposed bum that can hang on a few years.
