Pretty cool that the NFL has chosen the one referee (Clete Blakeman) who KC has a below .500 record against (5-6) and also one of the only referee who does not favor the home team. 54% of his penalties have gone against the home team. Home teams this season have gone an NFL worst 5-11 straight up with this guy as ref. I think the NFL threw the Bills a bone here and took away the narrative that the Ref has any pre-game bias for the home club or KC.

AFC Championship Game Week Thread - Bills at Chiefs

I've thought about the revenge factor and made a big deal last week to mention how great McDermott is in revenge games. And Sean came through again vs Baltimore. I agree KC, Reid and Mahomes are the same way. They lose to Buffalo in the regular season and get all amped up to beat us in the playoffs. They have that extra edge for having lost earlier. This game, however, does feel different. I think all those playoff heartbreaks for the Bills will finally negate any "revenge" factor for KC. The Bills are going to come out and play like a bunch of rabid dogs for 60 minutes. We hope that's enough and that they play a clean game like last week. -

I agree somewhat, there are circumstances in each loss we can point to. You mentioned some and the Rams game was a few days after the Big AFC East clinching prime time snow game. McD was doing snow angels for goodness sakes. They were not going into that game with a "must win" playoff attitude. Even after the game McD was kinda pissed and said sometimes you need to be slapped in the face,, or punched in the mouth..whatever cliché' and learn valuables lessons from it. They went back home and regrouped and got out to a big 14-0 lead vs Detroit. To me this is a McDermott Legacy game. This is it. Back in 2020 they weren't ready for the moment yet,,,and Josh Allen has already played brilliantly against KC, left the field winning in 2021 and never touched the ball again. -

The Bills played 4 road games against playoff teams this season and gave up an average of 36 points. They were swiss cheese. Obviously if KC gets anywhere near that total on Sunday night it's a big L for Buffalo. The D needs to show up and play their best game of the season....maybe their best game over the past couple seasons considering the opponent. -

So we might be missing Rapp and no other major contributors? That would be awesome in my book compared to the last couple seasons. -

I hear you but Josh and the guys have played well there. They will be dialed in and i think will really enjoy this road atmosphere to get it done...much like KC had no problems playing in Buffalo last January. They were very efficient. I've been to various games and some Bills games in Baltimore at night. That is a stadium I'd chalk up a loss more than Kansas City. It's electric there. -

I agree to some extent but their last two Super Bowls over the 49ers and Eagles have been pretty good-competitive games till the end. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm OK with playing at Arrowhead for this AFC Championship. We just squeaked out of that Ravens game alive and I feel like the Bills 10-game home winning streak had an expiration date and it was coming up. Now the guys can bond together and use the "us against the world" attitude on the road, in a place they KNOW they can win. If the D can just dig deep and cover some dudes, they can do this. -

I really like the attention to detail these last couple weeks... the signing of the ex-Ravens backup QB for a few practices and now left footed punters. -
Why can't the eye in the sky just be the eighth official on the field?
zow2 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
The eye in the sky seems shrouded in vagueness. I mean sometimes the refs pick up a flag and the announcers say, the eye in the sky called down. Then other times they can't pick up flags on obvious stuff like Facemask penalties that never happened. Does anyone really know when the eye in the sky can get involved or not? Surely the NFL does not want a terrible call to influence the Super Bowl participants. -

I recall Keon missing the first KC game back in November. Are any other Bills playing this Sunday who missed the first game? -
I'm somewhere between "it's our time" all the way to thinking it will take divine intervention to win a close playoff game at Arrowhead. Trying to enjoy the ride as I did not realistically think they'd be in the AFC Championship game this season.

In an amazing discovery of virulent activity, there are no reported viruses in and around the Kansas city metro area. Luckiest team in history. -

I heard Allen’s press conference today. It does sound like he’s fighting a cold. His voice is a bit off. -

I remember the week of the first Patriots game, McDermott sounded so sick...and Josh didn't sound good to me either. You gotta be careful with illness. Glad they are still 3.5 days out. -

I just want to see KC make the one big mistake towards the end, in a big playoff game....instead of the opponent. It's been almost 3 seasons in a row. They are so due. I don't know if it's a missed or blocked FG?, or some random turnover? or not converting a critical 4th down...but there has to be a time when Kansas City fails in the biggest moment. -
I know it's popular to say the conservative approach is to play it safe on O and limit mistakes/turnovers. Punt if you have to and live to play another series. But it sure feels like after the LA Rams and Detroit games, McD and staff sat down and reassessed everything (as he said he would after the loss). It's reasonable to look at the defensive stats in those games and come to the conclusions that McD realized there's no way in hell "we" are winning the AFC or the Super Bowl getting gash on D. In those two games combined they gave up: 86 points 58 First downs allowed 21 for 32 3rd and 4th downs allowed 793 passing yds allowed 185 rushing yds allowed 61 for 89 completions 4 Rushing TD's 7 Passing TD's We just watched Detroit and their high octane offense and leaky banged up defense get boat raced. I think the Bills really studied Andy Reid and the KC style of winning again and decided to commit to it. Since then it's worked well to use the Oline to control the ball and try to hang on to possession. Nothing too dangerous or risky in the passing game. The Ravens stuffed us in the 3rd Qtr and almost blew up the plan.,, Thankfully the D forced 3 turnovers and the big drop. My main concern is that Kansas City's defense is better than ours. I think the offense will do their part this week. We just need one more huge effort from the D to hang on for dear life.. if they can get even one takeaway that would be massive.

I think Lamar is scarier to play against than Patty. It's just rare to hem Lamar in the pocket and sack him like a traditional QB. He runs with ease, throws well on the run, etc.. Hamlin did one helluva job on that one play where he lost possession and then the other sack that forced the Ravens into a FG. Those were game changing. Mahomes is smarter.. just all around smarter and at the end of games, more clutch.
-
I can't disagree,, but I've always said for the last 40 years or whatever of watching football that the two most important factors in winning an NFL game are: 1) Turnover margin 2) 3rd and 4th-down efficiency You win those two stats you will win the game. But if the teams split those two stats, turnover ratio will usually trump 3rd downs conversions.

Yep. KC rushed the hell out of Stroud and sacked him a bunch including the game clinching 4th and 10 by Karlaftis. The Bills Oline will definitely have to control things in the run game. Too many obvious passing situations like in the 2nd half vs Baltimore won't be good. I know Josh is more capable than Stroud but good teams like the Chiefs can find a way to hem him in. -
Ty has the best hands on the team other than Shakir,,, they should use him for sure.
-
I heard on an NFL show today, Chenal is expected to be the spy on Allen. He is not keeping up with Joshua.

I'm in this camp. There are always guys on other teams that annoy us. What about Tyreek waving bye to Poyer and Hyde on a big TD catch?! Too often in the past we lament that the Bills are a bunch of nice guys and need more edge. And I'm sure they still are nice guys off the field. But players like Hollins and Anderson, Spencer Brown, etc.. they are getting in people's faces and may even cross the line. It got us all the way to the AFC Championship game. Let's go!!
-
There is such an outcry nationally there will be some kind of over-correction in this game. There prob will be some judgement stuff not called on both teams.
