I couldn't disagree with you more. Many people, myself included, don't neatly fit into either the liberal or conservative camp. Overall,I guess I would be considered a moderate, not because I'm middle of the road on everything. More because I have a mixture of conservative and liberal beliefs that confuse the Sean Hannitys and Keith Olbermans of the world. People like me may vote for a George Bush or a Barack Obama based on who represents ideas closest to your thinking on the issues of the most importance to you at that time. Not because you buy, whole hog, into either idiotic ideology. Take health care reform for example. Both parties plans have some very good ideas, and both have some very bad ideas, imo. A good reform bill could be had by taking some ideas from each plan, like tort reform and universal coverage(required insurance, like on cars) but it won't happen because both parties have dug in on their positions. More real bipartisanship and compromise is what's needed, not less.

By far,the wisest statement in this entire thread!

I voted for Pete Carroll. But in a couple of years I think Rich Rodriguez would be the winner.

Whenever a person passes we should focus on the positives of their life. God takes care of the rest.

Heard a guy on the radio talk about all the tragedy he was surrounded with his entire life, and it really surprised me. He buried multiple brothers, sisters and even nephews, that died before their time. And helped to raise many of his nieces and nephews. It's amazing he accomplished what he did. Even with all the money and everything the man had I wouldn't have wanted to trade places with him. He's definitely in a better place now. RIP Ted.

The kids got a great arm,I saw it when he was at Michigan. Not very mobile, but big and strong with a cannon. He was considered to be 1 of the top 2 high school QB's in the nation, along with ND's Jimmy Claussen. Had accuracy problems at Michigan,as well as rumors of a primadonna attitude. But he was only a freshman,so plenty of time to fix both issues. Transfered to ARK when Rodriguez took over and was no longer a fit for the offense. Not a guy you want running your spread, but possibly a stud in a pro style offense.

First coaches poll got me thinking...

College football is superior to the NFL,imo. The other posters in this thread have listed many good reasons why. One more I don't see mentioned here is the variety of schemes and styles used in college. The NFL is such a cookie cutter league. The schemes of all the teams are so similar, even the stadiums, while huge and extravagant in many cases, are so generic compared to the conference and regional differences of the college game. I've been to games at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno and the Big House in Ann Arbor and several places in between. Each place has it's own excitement and culture,it's great. -
GOOD ONE!

I used to have drinking habits very similar to yours. Never an everyday drinker, never let it interfere with work or family, but still drank way more than what is healthy. If you're like me,you probably handle your alcohol very well and even after 8 or 10 beers,no one can really tell. I always said there was no real reason to quit so I didn't,even tho I knew it wasn't a healthy lifestyle. Then one morning after a night of moderate (6 pack) drinking I started feeling ill. So bad that I went to the ER. My blood pressure was off the charts. Doc gave me blood pressure medication and told me I needed to change my lifestyle. So I did,and that included stopping drinking. It's easy to stop when you have a reason to. Sometimes God just needs to give you a wakeup call. I hope the OP finds his reason to quit.

Just heard Vernon Forrest was killed when he resisted a robbery attempt in Atlanta. ESPN ran a story about all his charitable works when they reported his death. I knew he was a hell of a fighter in his prime, but I didn't know all the good he did in his community. Why don't you hear more about the good stuff some of these athletes do? You don't hear about it until after he's gone. What a shame. RIP Vernon.

Yeah, they're great live. I've seen them a bunch of times dating back to the '80s. This will be my first Lonely Boys show, but I like their recorded stuff.

Plan on going there next month for Los Lobos/Los Lonely Boys. Looks like a great place. How long of a drive from Stockton is it?

Yes. I think this applies to life in general.

John,as you have already said here,Juco is the way to go now. And there's nothing wrong with that. It will give him time to get his grades in order and, most importantly, mature a bit. And he can still play ball,I'm sure a local JUCO coach will give him a shot.. Some of the posters in this thread are so arrogant it's unbelievable. Getting good grades in high school is not as "easy as breathing" despite what some here may tell you. And just laying down the law,as in straight A's or no sports, isn't always the answer either. It really has more to do with your sons maturity level than anything else. My oldest did great in HS until his junior year, then all hell broke loose. And we ended up going thru an experience that sounds very similar to yours. Probly a little worse. We stayed firm with him,but never gave up. And you know what? He's now in college and doing great. Once your son matures a little the good grades will follow. And this may injury may be a blessing in disguise.

Gimme Shelter is a great song. And I don't even like the Rolling Stones.

Man,this sucks. Very entertaining fighter. Had a couple of memorable wars with Mickey Ward. RIP Thunder.

It's been a long time since I was in the dating game, but I think I can offer a little advice. You say she's flirty and likes to dress sexy and be the center of attention. That tells me she's not the chick to look at as "the one". She's just not marrying material, imo. So treat her that way. And that doesn't mean you have to treat her like crap. Treat her well, just don't expect much, and be secure in the fact it's you she digs and wants to be with. Just don't ever believe you will change her. If you happen to meet a girl that has marrying potential, and you're ready to make that move, then you dump her. Until then enjoy the ride.

I remember getting Rick Mondays autograph when I was a kid. It was at an A's game,me and my brothers yelled at him before the game. He came over to the wall and signed for all of us and took a few minutes to talk to each of us. That was like 40 years ago and it still sticks in my mind what a nice guy he was.

Now Alexis Arguello is dead......the hits keep coming

Wow. Heartbreaking. He always seemed like the straight arrow compared to many of the others of his era. This just blows me away. -
You make an interesting point. The workplace has changed in a very negative way over the last 30-40 years. And the young guys are having to deal with it. My dad was a local-run truck driver with a high school education. He worked 45-50 hours a week with weekends off,and was home every night. My mom never had to work, she stayed home and raised me and my brothers. My parents were able to afford to buy a modest home, feed and clothe us kids and have a comfortable life, all on my dads income. My parents now live comfortably on his Teamster pension and health benefits in the house they raised us in. You cannot afford that lifestyle anymore with a job like my dad had,it now takes 2 incomes. Moms gotta work and that sucks. The family suffers. I don't know what exactly has changed, but it hasn't changed for the better.

I loved Streets of San Francisco when I was a kid. I thought it was cool when they would pull that flashing cherry out from under the seat or where ever and go into pusuit mode.

Great fighter. Would have loved to see him fight Roberto Duran when both were in their primes. Seemed like a decent guy too. I heard it was a suicide. Damn,I hope not, what a tragedy.
