Bills compiling new list of coaching candidates
BuffaloWings replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmm....I can buy into how Frank is always prepared and puts in the hours (which one would think would rub off on the players), but do we think he's ready to be a head coach? I can see him coming in as an assistant, but not head coach. Not yet, at least. -
The Biggest Factor in the Nix Signing
BuffaloWings replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I went with the drafted players, but the fact that he's been around a good organization in San Diego came in a close second. I don't mind this. I really don't take much stock in the "hated" inside man theory, since he's only been around for a year. Perhaps he was in the plans all along...who knows. But now he has the reigns to the draft and hiring of a coach. I have a better feeling about all of this, but I'm not celebrating just yet. -
I just want the Jets to miss the playoffs and the Pats* & Cowboys to not go very far. As long as those things happen, I'll be happy with any Superbowl matchup. I usually prefer to see the top teams in each conference get there, so a Colts-Saints game would be awesome to watch.

Will Bill Cowher be the next HC?
BuffaloWings replied to Cotton Fitzsimmons's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's really not a need to "fire" anyone, since the head coach was fired earlier in the season. An interim tag means nobody officially has the job, so nobody really will get fired. I really hope you know what you're talking about....or you shall suffer the Soprano curse. -
Supposed big news announcement at 9pm

But he grew up in the Pittsburgh suburbs. Don't know how much family he has there, but he & his wife live in Raleigh. -
Supposed big news announcement at 9pm
BuffaloWings replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's an argument, though I don't know how compelling. I also thought there were whispers that he'd return to coaching once his daughters were in college or out of college or something like that. His oldest should have graduated by now, so I don't think the other two are far behind. -
Please Hire Ron Wolf as our new GM
BuffaloWings replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Easier said than done. You're not Ron Wolf, so it's very possible that he's not thinking this way. Like many coaches, GMs who "retired" sometimes itch to get back into the game and do what makes them happy. Your points are heard, but it may just be that he wants to get back into the unending stress of building a team into a winner. -
Why do none of our players get better?
BuffaloWings replied to Nevergiveup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this hits the nail on the head, except that Ralph needs to realize who could be the "top notch" GMs - if he gets the right guy, then everything else falls into place. His decision to hire Tom Donahoe didn't seem like a bad one at the time - a personnel guy who had been around the block and had his connections. He just made horrible decisions while trying to make a big splash. -
Are you happy the Bills lost?

I never root for the Bills to lose...ever. -
It's not like Hardy hasn't had a few chances, but how can we possibly evaluate either when the coaching staff has been inept for the past 3 years?

Listening To Thurman On WGR Right Now
BuffaloWings replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When was the show aired? I wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to get in on part of the recent Rams or Dolphins deal. In fact, probably moreso the Fins since their owner has been selling small shares of the team to celebrities. -
Listening To Thurman On WGR Right Now
BuffaloWings replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They did....technically, they're the defending champs since the AFL hasn't exactly played in a while. Jon Bon Jovi isn't just a cheesy singer - owning the Soul is just one of several business ventures he's a part of. It would surprise me that he'd be interested in a stake of a team other than the Jets, Giants, or Eagles, but it would be intriguing. -
5-9 teams along with Buffalo
BuffaloWings replied to BuffaloBud's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not me...I've got Hakeem Nicks, Kevin Boss, & the Giants' D/ST going in my fantasy league this week. -
You're contradicting yourself....why would Brohm believe he's in their plans for next year if it's apparent that Fewell won't be the head coach? Right now, there are no guarantees that anyone on this team has a job next year. Besides, Fewell is a defensive coach. If he's coaching somewhere else next year, it's hard to say how much offensive input he would have to whoever his HC is. The only reason to play Brohm is if Fitzpatrick gets injured badly enough where he can't play. The only people in the organization interested in Brohm's play would maybe be the front office, but we don't even know who of that group will have a job.

It was the exact type of play that Brady injured his knee. It was also the exact type of play that got the rule which disallows defenders diving at the QB at or below his knees (i.e., the Brady rule). In those cases where Brady is whining about it...he knows the rules and is just trying to get an extra 15 yards. As much as we hate that wuss, we'd be just as ok with it if the Bills QB was doing the same whining. There were some clear missed calls & non-calls yesterday, but I don't think the refs affected the outcome.

Looks like TO has finally had enough.
BuffaloWings replied to UpstateSwagger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is precisely what happens when you have a group of unmotivated employees. I don't think I'd go that far to say this about everyone, as I do see some guys working their tail off (more than likely to show the next regime they're willing to work). I would've also liked to see TO call out a few people. The rant on the Tennessee sidelines was a start, but he's been more silent than I expected. -
Did John Fox save his job tonight?
BuffaloWings replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can't disagree with this, but there were some questionable decisions by Fox last night...skipping the 52-yd FG to go for it on 4th down at the end of the half? I realize Kasay isn't getting any younger, but attempting the FG gives you a better chance at points. There was something else that was head-scratching, but it slipped my mind. I just wonder if Fox has worn out his welcome. This is his 9th season in Carolina and the team has been very inconsistent from year to year. Sure, I'd take an 11-5 or 12-4 season with a trip to the conf championship game once every 3 years right now, but his teams always seem to have had good talent....yet couldn't quite put it together consistently. If I was putting any money on it, I'd say he's staying. Took him a while to bench Delhomme, though. -
It's not whether or not they're going to play...the Bears' flight wouldn't be able to land.
-
Nice....the kid hasn't even played a full year with a putrid coaching staff and you're ripping him. This is why one of my favorite sayings is "I hate people".

Does it really matter?
-
These days, you can almost bank on the GM hiring his own coach. A new guy wants to put his stamp on the team, so I really doubt we'd see Fewell around if a new GM/DFO was brought in. It's not Fewell's job "by default". He's the interim coach, which means he just happened to be in the right position when Jauron was fired. That does give him an opportunity to win the job, but I think we're all hoping a new regime comes in and brings a new scheme and/or builds his own based on the personnel.

According to the article, 8 of the 11 starters on the '06 Superbowl team's defense were Gabriel's picks. I don't think you can overlook that. I wouldn't mind Gabriel - looks like this is as good a time as any for him to get his shot at a GM job. Him or Gettleman should get some consideration. My biggest question, however.....how many times are we going to have to correct the spelling of the new guy's name on this board?
