  1. Hard to say. We couldn't have said Kelly was Kelly in 1983, so that isn't answered until 2-3 years down the road.
  2. Now I'm wondering about this. Conspiracy theorists unite if you will, but I'd find it quite humorous....in fact, downright hilarious...that the Bills organization would feed this to a little, unknown guy (outside of EA, at least) who doesn't give two hoots if he or his source is right just to spite E$PN.
  3. I realize you're not necessarily implying Kelly/Tasker are the friends, but I just wonder if either of them would want to be voluntarily leaking this info. Tasker works for CBS, so would he be jeopardizing his job by leaking this info about a colleague? And is he THAT connected to the Bills these days? I can see how Kelly might want to get a buzz out there, but it's strange that even he (who seems to be connected to the organization) would want to leak this stuff when the organization seems to want to keep this on the down-low.
  4. You think Cowher wasn't fiery or isn't a proven commodity?
  5. I think Logan is a composite of SKOOBY, Dellapelle John, and SOPRANO. Instead of the airport, the bigger question is who is tracking Ralph's Taurus today?
  6. Exactly...but he just didn't *look* 6'3" and 240 on TV. Still, I'm impressed.
  7. He's really The Senator in disguise.
  8. I'm starting to think it's time to move on and start interviewing coordinators who are actually motivated to be the coach. If Cowher is waiting for the market to be set, it sounds to me like he's just waiting for a good offer instead of an opportunity.
  9. Bingo. Add in the fact that Shanahan was given the VP role and he has a good history with Bruce Allen, this seemed like a slam dunk for him. I think this is just a better situation for Shanahan.
  10. Agreed. If he does, Lurie would look like Pat Bowlen did a year ago when he fired Shanahan. I don't know if Andy Reid would work well with Buddy, but I'd be calling Andy as soon as news of the firing hits the wire.
  11. It's called both "hook & ladder" and "hook & lateral" these days. Using the word "lateral" is technically correct, but since we're all lazy, the word "ladder" came to be part of it - probably for the reason DasNootz suggested. Don't get me started on "supposably".
  12. There are probably another 50 or so with his name misspelled.
  13. This is why we get so many theories and rumors. Anyone with a web server and internet access can post a rumor and talk about their "sources". That said, I really wonder if something is up. Just don't believe anything until you see Cowher (or the next coach) at the podium with Ralph & Buddy.
  14. Jim Harbaugh has certainly turned around the Stanford program and made them into someone respectable again. I wouldn't doubt that he'd soon be winning the Pac-10 title if he keeps things going the way he is now. But I always wonder about grabbing a coach from the college ranks and bringing him into the NFL. There are very few cases where taking a coach from the NCAA and jumping him right into the NFL has worked...Jimmy Johnson & Dennis Green come to mind, but Nick Saban, Butch Davis, Steve Spurrier, Dennis Erickson, and Bobby Petrino also come to mind. It's just a different game - college is all about recruiting and managing the players. Xs and Os are part of it, but not as much as it is in the NFL. This article is a couple of years old, but I think it gets the point across. Successful NCAA coaches aren't necessarily suited to the NFL. This isn't to say Jim Harbaugh can't succeed. I just think the percentages are low for him doing so. I'd rather see someone that has an NFL coaching background, be it an assistant or former head coach.
  15. I bit the bullet and looked at ESPN.com and Yahoo - they both have it (seemingly) correct where Baltimore is the 6 seed. Makes little sense that someone at NFL.com would miss this.
  16. Normally, in this format of the playoffs, each conference would have the matchups in round 1 where the #3 seed plays #6 seed and #4 plays #5. However, I see that nfl.com has the Ravens listed as the #5 seed, yet they're playing the Patriots* who are the #3 seed. Is this correct? espn.com has the seedings correct to match the scheduled games next weekend.
  17. It doesn't change my opinion. The coaches should do whatever they feel necessary. It seems like a cop-out to sit your best players to avoid injury, but if that's what the coach wants to do, he has every right to do it. It sucks that we now see the Jets in the playoffs and the Texans out of the playoffs because the Bengals didn't exactly come out playing inspired football last night. But that's the way it goes. It sucks that the Colts didn't go for 16-0 and benched everyone, but that's what Caldwell/Polian wanted to do. They have every right to do it. (Side note: they better win the Superbowl now) I think Goodell should leave this alone. No rules, no incentives. He's welcome to strongly suggest to everyone that they play their best players to maintain the integrity of the game, but he's better off not making any attempts at providing incentives. Like playoff-bound teams need draft picks for clinching a playoff spot....talk about not maintaining integrity - that's like giving tax breaks to corporations that turn millions in profit.
  18. They need to address the OL first. Wood will be back next year, but they need guys that can play tackle. As for defense, this really depends what the new coach wants, but the DE, DT, & LB positions will be closely evaluated.
  19. Really? Underrated? I've said this 100 times, but everywhere Wade has been, he's had success only because of the coach he succeeded (Reeves, Levy, Parcells). He was a failure for his two seasons running Denver, Doug Flutie is the only reason he was successful in Buffalo, and he has yet to put his stamp on the Cowboys. If they make a run to the NFC Championship, then I might reconsider. For now, he's nothing more to me than an excellent DC and underachieving HC.
  20. If we didn't hear anything about Fox coming back next year, then I could buy this. Maybe there would be a behind-the-back deal that would convince Cowher to wait a year, but I don't see him doing that. He's the type of guy who respects the other coaches too much to do something like that. I also don't think his family is the issue. He has daughters who are in or out of college, though I don't know what ties his wife has to Carolina. Cowher grew up outside of Pittsburgh, so that part of his family is close enough. To me, the money offered and the potential stability of the franchise are the only key points.
  21. Someone mentioned this in the other Cowher thread... The fact that he's reached out to potential assistants would lead you to believe that he knows where he's going...or that he has it narrowed down to a few places. Add in the fact that the CBS studio guys were chuckling at him while he was doing the Buffalo highlights (like they knew something we didn't), you can suppose that Buffalo is a possibility. But as I always say, don't celebrate until it's official. Cautious optimism, people...cautious optimism.
  22. Like Erik said, cautious optimism. We've been burned by this organization enough, so let's not go nuts until it's official. That said.....
  23. I think this is one reason why I'd be ok with him. He's passionate and seems to make his players accountable. He ran a great offense in Minnesota and had success as a head coach. I just don't know why he didn't have a decent offense in Baltimore when that's his background. Was his 1998 year in Minnesota just lucky? Doubtful, but one would think he'd get it right being in one place for so many years.
  24. Today, they do. I've never seen so many mistakes by two teams in the same game...ever.
  25. It actually sounds like it. I always loved the guy and I can live with hearing him once a year. That voice just reminds me of Sunday afternoons.
