  1. I'm also wondering how much the media is diving in to make this bigger than it really is. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if someone heard Favre saying "I'm not coming back..." without him finishing his sentence (not that that happens, of course) and went to the presses with it. Of course, all E$PN and PFT have to say is "Reports are saying...." to cover their arses.
  2. Can't disagree with you ICE. I loved the guy for years and had all the respect in the world for him - I even bought a Favre jersey. His legacy is tainted, though. His waffling and the horrifically overblown media coverage (that he has seemed to enjoy) have really turned me off to him. I wouldn't go this far. Like Biscuit said, the Vikes were in the playoffs with Jackson running the show. I'm not saying TJ is even close to an elite QB, but if he was good enough to get them into the playoffs, don't you think he can improve where they can advance in the playoffs with him?
  3. Ding. Ding. This isn't over and I won't officially believe it until I don't see him on any field in Week 1.
  4. It's possible...maybe even likely. But to me, it still falls into the professionalism comment I made. Stop haggling over 1 measly year (I know, $$$$) and get things going now. They can always negotiate an extension when Spiller is leading the league in all-purpose yards three years down the road.
  5. To an extent, I'd give the FO a pass because these numbers are beyond ridiculous for guys that have never seen a pro football field. I know this is the way the system works and that agents are the evil that is ruining all of professional sports as we know it, but at some point, someone's gotta step up and say enough is enough. That said, I'm still hoping for some professionalism to take over and for both parties to realize they need to come to an agreement. Spiller is more important to the Bills this year than Maybin was last year. Get him in now.
  6. Time will tell. I'm liking what I see with Gailey so far, but after the last 10 years, I'm taking a cautiously-optimistic approach. I do like his attitude towards the game. It seems like he's preaching a solid work ethic will be the only way to win, but in a quiet way. No air horns and silly no drill sergeant tactics - just plain discipline and coaching.
  7. Who should be talking, then? By this theory, nobody. Someone's gotta speak up and take charge. To me, one player getting in another's face is more effective than a coach doing it.
  8. I'll take that. It's probably the training camp optimism talking, but I wouldn't be shocked if we beat them once. The Pats* are slipping back to the pack. I don't think we'll see a bad team any time soon, but they're not the dominant cheaters they once were. The rest of the league is starting to catch up to them and even though Brady & Moss are still there, they are REALLY going to miss Welker.
  9. Tell me you're not serious. This doesn't mean it's ok. First, people have gotten fired over plagiarism. That's serious business. Second, footnotes in a paper is not plagiarism. It's correct documentation referencing another article or publication that's relevant to your paper. Finally, remember the definition - plagiarism is copying something from someone else and claiming it to be your own.
  10. Agreed. Plagiarism is when the OP posts something that someone else wrote and calls it his/her own. Thanks, skooby. Appreciate the info!
  11. There's nothing wrong with this poll, since we're on Day 1 of camp. At least it's not a poll about what coach will be taking over in Week 8.
  12. It would be an improvement over the past 10 years, would it not?
  13. Thank you. If he's 70/30 on coming back, then what will he be if he shows up? I know this isn't easy to do these days, but if I'm Chan, I tell him that he's under contract and if he's the least bit unsure about playing, then don't show up at all. I don't want someone who's 70% willing to play.
  14. Fox does the same thing when they have the cast of Glee singing the national anthem during the World Series and the All Star Game. I'll bet you my next paycheck they'll do it for the Superbowl, too. I can't stand the way ESPN does their business, either, but I've stopped worrying about the constant ball-washing of the big markets, the personalities that make the most money, and those who generally get national attention. I'll watch for highlights, analysis, & an occasional baseball game, but that's pretty much it. I'll still watch them, but the TMZ-style coverage of the Brett Favre saga two years ago pretty much took all the feeling I have for them.
  15. Yeah, he tore apart a bunch of 2nd & 3rd stringers on a team that was playing for absolutely nothing. You're also forgetting that Johnson started because the Bills were also locked into a playoff spot and would've gained nothing by winning that game. Flutie had been the starter all year, so he was getting the game off. Fixed. This is the reason they were a playoff team. Flutie masked a lot of problems with that o-line, so I think it's safe to say that he would have helped in the playoff game, but we don't know if he would have *won* them the game. It would have likely been a completely different game with Flutie in there.
  16. You're implying Evans has no talent? I hope not, because while *maybe* you can say that about every other WR on the roster, Evans could start for pretty much any other team in the NFL.
  17. Despite the records, I'd have to agree with you. Two good teams with good defenses. The defense is what carried the Bills that season. I won't try to start the Flutie-Johnson debate, but who knows what would've happened against the Colts with RJ at QB.
  18. Nice to see some common sense around here for once. I'm not anointing Edwards - training camp and preseason should tell us who's in - but we have a new on-field regime. Let's give it a shot.
  19. Exactly. Guys take a leak on the course ALL THE TIME. I play 2-3 times a week and if I gotta go, I stroll into a wooded area and take care of business. All of the guys I play with do the same thing. It's a "common courtesy" thing to take a leak away from an open area. If guys had been doing this right near her back yard all the time, then I can understand why she finally called someone on it. This is a story only because it was Roethlisberger in the foursome, no matter who was taking the leak.
  20. I think that goes without saying. Back & forth offenses, trick plays, Winslow being pushed to extreme exhaustion, and overtime. Couldn't have been any better. Phan hit it on the head, though. If he had better defenses, we would have seen San Diego in multiple Superbowls.
  21. Very sad. I loved those Charger teams from the early 80s...Fouts to Winslow, Jefferson, et al. RIP, Don.
  22. Something in the form of Lynch for Vincent Jackson (and/or whatever combo of picks are necessary to make that "equal") might make me happy. San Diego's backfield isn't exactly intimidating anymore, right?
  23. I hear you, but I think it's because he's a young QB who got sick at the wrong time and, thus, really hasn't gotten much of a chance. Bulger is proven and Smith isn't yet. I guess the Ravens didn't want to take a chance that Sal Paolantonio is right. A lot of us want a proven QB (I've seen the names Garcia & Campbell thrown around in this thread), but that QB comes at a price. It won't happen. I can see this Troy Smith thing happening. He's saying the right things, but you have to believe he's not happy being relegated to the 3rd QB w/o being given much of a shot. Perhaps he needs the right offense? Hard to say, IMO. I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade for Smith, Brown being sent to the PS, and one of Edwards/Brohm being shown the door.
