  1. Very likely. It may not be a springboard to a 12-4 season, but if nothing else, a win brings back a few fans and gives the players a little boost. Just don't get overly excited and start expecting the Superbowl if they do win.
  2. I think Nix & Gailey should gather all of these "Bills will be 2-14" articles and post them on the wall in the locker room.
  3. Doubt it. He'd win COY if the 49ers weren't expected to win anything and they won something like 10-11 games. Look at it this way - a guy who wins coach of the year would do so because he got his team to perform above & beyond expectations...kind of like the MVP of the league. If you take that one guy off his team, do they still have the same results? So, if the Bills win 11 games, Gailey would likely be a candidate because nobody expects the Bills to do that well.
  4. Exactly. It's like bragging rights. They serve no purpose other than to show how much media respect one team gets over the other. Wins & losses are all that matter. I'll just pay attention to the standings.
  5. I'm wondering the same thing. McKelvin is coming off an injury from last year, so maybe they want to see what they have with Jones as a KR before they put Leodis back there again. I don't think the botched return against the Patsies* has any play in this at all. Gailey would seem to be the type of coach to throw him right out there again if LM made that mistake again.
  6. I'm with you. I don't see more than 8 wins because of what Gailey has to deal with here. If the play-calling and skill positions cover the OL, they can win maybe 10. The Albany TU columnist sees the Jets beating Green Bay in the Superbowl and the Bills winning the Jake Locker sweepstakes.
  7. Surprised me that he was cut. After watching a few of his stints, I didn't think he was doing that bad of a job. I didn't think there was any reason to trade for him, but maybe now there's a reason to look at him for the PS.
  8. I'm not surprised, either. Goodell doesn't want him acting like an immature college student, but he wants him on the field because of his popularity. I would have been surprised to see the 6 games upheld. Story over. Carry on.
  9. Agreed - it's like praising the kid at Burger King for giving you the Whopper within 30 seconds. However, it's what this organization has been sorely lacking. Jauron would have said that Detroit's d-line was too tough for them and tip his cap to their DC. Gailey says the same thing, but also says our o-line needs to perform better. None of us think Gailey can do no wrong (ok, *most* of us don't think that) - but we're dealing with an honest, down-to-earth, stand-up guy running the team...instead of a guy who looks lost, emotionless, and has little clue about what's happening with his own team.
  10. I stopped right there. Simmons - by no means - should be considered an expert. He's a columnist whose athletic activity is likely limited to a beer softball league. Remember that these guys are fans who write because they're good at writing and keeping the readers entertained. I see no reason to take their opinions seriously.
  11. Was Tasker doing the play-by-play? If so, it's a different ball game compared to being the analyst. Some guys who are decent-to-good analysts are horrible PBP announcers. With regards to the guys like Johnston, Theismann, et al, it's interesting how they can sound good, but really say nothing at all. Many analysts are well-spoken and sound like they know what they're talking about, but really are just blowing hot air. You have to be careful about saying someone is a good analyst when all they do is know how to talk. It's an art, so different people can like different broadcasters...beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all.
  12. You'll hate New England less once Belichick & Brady are gone and the Bills start beating them again. The hate for Dallas should never cease.
  13. I think it's clear now that Anderson is getting the starts because of a strained relationship between Leinart & Whisenhunt. Leinart's numbers aren't terrible - I was wondering why he was complaining, but his numbers (albeit from limited play) aren't bad compared to Anderson's. Leinart probably has a legitimate gripe.
  14. This. ESPN should just drop this. Schefter is doing such a bad job of trying to save face, he's now looking unprofessional. Who knows if it was Schefter that started this or if his sources gave him bad info. If it was the latter, I'd be privately ripping them a new one if I were him.
  15. Exactly. He was probably telling Ryan that's who their opponent was. People here are stretching a bit.
  16. Seriously. I think the pundits will say this because of their love of the other three AFCE teams. I can see 8-8 easily, but anything more than that will be icing on the cake. Maybe 6-10 at worst, but with the rebuilding and everyone taking time to learn Gailey's offense and the 3-4 defense, I don't think 8-8 is exaggerating at all.
  17. The only moxie he has is in the hot tub.
  18. If it's a PPR league, I don't think it's a bad move. I'd put him lower on my board if it wasn't PPR. My league is PPR, so I'm seriously thinking about taking him by round 4 of nobody else does...but that depends if I have a solid WR, RB, & QB already.
  19. Interesting...I don't think these stats can be ignored too much, but how much of the "starters vs starters" argument can be used? Is it that the starters on the opposition haven't warmed up yet? Are the other teams not going in with a game plan just to allow the starters to get sharp? And how do we quantify that? I mean, there could be two guys who are playing with the first unit that would normally be on the bench and those guys miss an assignment, blow a coverage, or miss a block due to whatever reason. I understand your enthusiasm. I'm cautiously optimistic about what we've seen & heard from camp and the preseason games. That said, I maintain - and always will - that it's preseason and the results of these games (stats, W/L, etc) mean diddly-poo. Preseason is just a stretch to get the starters in game-ready shape for the regular season. We'll really know the real deal for this team by Week 5.
  20. Don't doubt it and we have nothing to prove otherwise. However, I agree...who is Bill Williamson? And Fred Jackson needs to be taught a lesson? This Williamson character might be eating his words when the league catches on to Spiller by Week 12 and the Bills run Jackson & Lynch down everyone's throat.
  21. I don't like the Tuesday/Wednesday night thing, either. Maybe it's the traditionalist in me, but the NFL should only be Sunday/Monday (and Thanksgiving). Besides TV, who benefits from the extra nights? Do the teams get any more dough for that? It's not like the NFL needs exposure, so I don't see the point of that. Otherwise, I don't think this is a bad idea. Why did they get rid of the second bye week a few years ago, anyway? Also, while the regular season would be 18 weeks, it would still be 16 games. Goodell & the owners want 18 games. This adds revenue for the owners.
  22. Defense. It was actually pretty good last year. IMO, they need to re-prove their running game. The o-line is pretty much the same, but there isn't a clear #1 RB right now. LT hasn't been the same and Greene is unproven.
