  1. I would've thought they'd find one by now. Maybe they're waiting for Charlie Batch to become available.
  2. Agreed. I didn't think JP was ready at the end of 2004 and I thought one more year under Bledsoe would have been enough. Heck, even if Bledsoe started the 2005 season and JP took over halfway through, that would have been fine. But...hindsight being 20/20...JP probably wouldn't have cut it because of his decision-making. To me, Trent's demise was simple - once he got knocked silly by Adrian Wilson, he got gun shy, lost all confidence, and was never able to get it back.
  3. No, I think Chan was willing to give him one more chance. Don't you think he studied film on Trent? I'm sure the first thing he saw was his lack of confidence and probably figured he could coach him back to form. It took 2 regular season games (and probably a mini-mutiny) to realize this.
  4. He wasn't spectacular when he came on the scene, but a lot of us talked about how he had this. He lost that 3 weeks after the Adrian Wilson hit-turned-into-concussion. I think this is what led to the lack of situational awareness. He also got gun shy, so he was quick to dump the ball off if the first receiver wasn't open enough. Lee Evans was vocal about keeping Losman in the games and never developed anything with Edwards...and that was during 2008. Lee knew then what we all know now and perhaps it finally came to a head after Week 1.
  5. You actually believe something that Schefter says?
  6. He probably got it from the same source that said the Bills were interested in Matt Leinart. They're covering their a$$es now.
  7. I honestly think it was. He really was never the same since then. I thought he was fine after the San Diego game, but the consecutive losses to Miami and the Jets got his confidence seriously off track and he never recovered. It's really sad. Good guy from all accounts and it looked like we finally had a legitimate QB. I wish him well. All of that said, it was the right move to make. Turn the page and look for the next franchise QB....
  8. Sullivan himself is smacking of desperation. I think that comment is an admission of him being wrong, so he hid it in there amongst something to legitimately complain about.
  9. What if the tackles get better as the line gels and meshes? Do we still replace them? I'm not saying they will get better, but suppose... I agree with giving the line some time to develop and play as a cohesive unit, but if the tackles aren't up to snuff, it won't matter how well the line will mesh.
  10. Snake...like a snake draft in fantasy football. The order is reversed in round 2, then back to the original order in round 3, reversed in round 4, and so on.
  11. This all goes to show that you can't judge anyone until AFTER 3-4 games into the season. akm is right - all of these pundits make their predictions based on past experience, roster additions/subtractions, coaching changes, schedule, etc. It's just that - a prediction. Saying how many games a team will win before the season is one thing...doing that with half the season gone is completely different and a lot easier. Peter King may be a putz, but if I were him, I wouldn't yet admit to "being wrong". It's too early. Yes, Tampa Bay has 2 wins already and they'll likely win a few more games, but it doesn't mean they won't go 4-12 or 3-13 and not be too far off from King's prediction.
  12. These guys need to play like there's nothing to lose. Because...I mean...is there anything to lose?
  13. Yeah...how dare they try and win.
  14. Belichick does that with every team. He can make the Bills, Browns, & Chiefs all look like the defending Superbowl champs. It's all part of his ruse. I've got a gut feeling he'll be the man this week. The numbers don't blow you away, but it seems like he's had good games against the Patriots* lately.
  15. I was wondering who's fault it was....and here we were blaming Gregg Williams and Tom Donahoe.
  16. I have a better one...a friend of mine from high school was a big Yankees fan, like me. I lost touch with him until about a year ago when I found out he turned into a Red Sox fan. Explain that one to me. Amen. At least we can hope the Bills play spoiler. Pick up a win against Miami or the Patsies* in December when they're both fighting for the playoffs and I'll be content. That's as high as my expectations will go. I'll even still attend 1 game a year like I usually do.
  17. Perfect analogy, Mike. This is probably the best way for us golfers to relate. The preseason and practice doesn't count - when he gets on the field in a game where everything matters, the pressure is probably getting to him too much. I think a lot of this has to do with the 2008 concussion and a couple of subsequent games after he returned. If I recall correctly, the Bills went 5-1 after a win vs San Diego (I was at that game), then Trent played a horrid game against Miami. A lot of his downfield attempts were either well-defended or picked off. Against the Jets a week later, he threw a pick-6 while deep in their territory (while moving the ball well) and has been gun-shy ever since. I don't know how much coaching can help him - I actually thought Gailey would be able to instill confidence, but apparently not.
  18. I'm seeing a lot of posts like this and a few friends of mine who are slowly moving away from being a Bills fan because of the past 10 years. It's sad, I'll give you that, but as Doc said...it's just football. While I want them to win, yet realistically think they won't every week, I'll still root for them. They're my team. I grew up with them and will stick with them to my grave.
  19. Well, I'm sure he did. I said that somewhat tongue-in-cheek. His plan is probably to evaluate the players during the season, while still trying to put a competitive team on the field. Clearly, that's hard to do, but he & Nix probably figure they're going to build their team and it won't take 1 year to put it all together. And this might even be a good year to do this. Presuming the CBA gets done in time, there would be a ton of free agents that Gailey & Nix could choose from (ok, not realistically, but you get my point) to build the team they want.
  20. Or just make the trade. That will make everyone stop talking about the rumors.
  21. I don't think we're going to be worrying about a huge impact to the team this year. Gailey may be trying everyone out to see what he's got. For all we know, he could have exclaimed to the entire team that 2010 is open tryouts for 2011.
  22. While it doesn't exactly address the OL problems, how can this hurt? True, Fitzpatrick is no Jim Kelly. But do you want to see Edwards in there every week doing the same thing over & over and completely alienate the rest of the team and the fans? They're not a playoff team, but at least Gailey is trying to do something.
  23. Bingo. I wouldn't have thought that he's featuring different players each week, but maybe it's possible. Spiller in Week 1, Lynch in Week 2 (I just assumed that was a showcase for a potential trade), and we may see more Jackson in Week 3 - he's had good games against the Pats* in the past, after all. Hindsight being 20/20, I wouldn't be surprised if Gailey told Trent at the beginning of camp that it's his job to lose and he'd have a quick hook if he wasn't performing. Well, here you go...he's not performing and the team is searching for some offensive identity, so it's now someone else's turn.
  24. Remember the saying: The most popular guy in town is the backup QB. You could see this coming, but I honestly didn't think it would be this quick. I figured Gailey might give him until the bye week, but I guess he's more impatient than I thought.
