Peyton Manning giving Bills of old props...
BuffaloWings replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As you said, Manning is already in that company and will eventually be in a class of his own. This is the guy that should be the face of the NFL. -
Bills have 1st crack at Merriman.
BuffaloWings replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed - what do they have to lose at this point? -
Good point and I agree, but we're now in the day & age where people can take one simple criticism on a message board (albeit usually with less tact than anything Rex Ryan says) and turn it into a harassment lawsuit. People these days are either becoming more ultra-sensitive by the minute or are just looking for ways to make an extra buck.
-
This is all becoming more disturbing every day. First Graham departs because we bash him endlessly while he's good enough to take time and post here. Then Lori's frequenting of the board becomes less & less. Now Wawrow. This combined with my wife's co-worker - he's a Jacksonville fan and went to the game last Sunday. He was treated worse than garbage before, during, and after the game. His wife (who went with him, even though she doesn't care for football too much) was actually afraid of being physically harmed. I'm beginning to think the Patriots* fan who filed a suit a few years back (I think) wasn't far off with his or his pregnant wife's stories. I'm a fan of this team, but I'm completely embarrassed when I hear this stuff. What gives Bills fans the right to harass other team's fans when our team can't even win a game? What happened to civility & sportsmanship?

Bingo. I still want to know why so many people want him back. Wade's defenses were excellent here when he was DC and when Cottrell took over, but he was a horrible head coach in Buffalo. He completely mis-managed the QB situation, was a terrible game-day coach, waffled on almost every major decision, and dumped Bruce DeHaven for the worst special teams coach of all time. He only lasted as long as he did because Flutie masked problems with the OL and the defenses he & Cottrell ran carried the team for 3 years. I'm surprised he's lasted as long as he has in Dallas. I figured he'd be gone once they lost the playoff game to the Giants and Jason Garrett would have taken over. Now I have no clue what Jerry Jones is doing.

I think you guys are missing my point. I think it's clear to see now (not 5 games ago) that Chan is running things in order to see what he has in this team. You can be unimpressed by the play on the field, but why give the explanation that we're generally unimpressed with this rebuilding project...after 5 freakin' games? It's just sounding as if we're ready to ship Chan & Buddy out Lake Erie because they haven't won a game yet, when it's pretty clear that this team is being torn down for the purposes of a re-architecture.

Wow, this is some article written by a former agent
BuffaloWings replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like someone said earlier, if the teams are listening to Kiper, they have their own problems. On the surface, Kiper only works for ESPN and tells the general public (i.e., fans) who should be the best player out there, etc. If Kiper does so much as breathe in an agent's direction, it should be scrutinized to the millionth degree. -
Post Ralph Wilson era: Bill Polian?
BuffaloWings replied to Cotton Fitzsimmons's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you have to be careful about returning the old guard. It's almost like getting back together with your high school girlfriend only to find out things aren't the same anymore. The Redskins re-hired Joe Gibbs a few years back and while he was a great coach in the 80s & 90s, the game had passed him by. The Vikings threw the world at Brett Favre in August and now he's clearly showing his age. The years where Polian was running the show will be like no other, but I don't think we should go out and bring him back just because he had a great run with this organization. There is new blood out there, so it's time to find it. -
I love these comments. It's like starting a new job, but being unhappy with your boss because they don't like rock music. It is UTTERLY RIDICULOUS to be unimpressed with anything that Gailey and/or Nix have done with this team so far. If the team turns around in November and wins more games than we expect, would you still be unimpressed? No, you'd probably be angry that they dropped 3 slots in the draft order.

Florio - Non truth teller
BuffaloWings replied to Buffalonian-at-Heart's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, it shouldn't be a shock that a reporter - especially one who lives on "inside info" and rumors - claims something to be true that may or may not be true. That's their business, it happens. Regarding Favre, I'd tend to believe it really is him, but that's my opinion. For the most part, athletes - no matter how much we've held them to certain standards and how much we believe they could adhere to them - think they're above the law. This is likely what Roethlisberger and Kobe Bryant thought as they were in the middle of their "situations"...even if they were caught, they'd wiggle out of it somehow. This is why I'd think it's really Favre who sent the voicemails and the pictures. A clear error in judgment, but I wouldn't put it past him. As for Brady, of course he's going to say he had no role in this. Because he's the face of that franchise, he can't come out and say he wanted Moss gone. That damages his reputation. That said, I agree with Florio's opinion - Brady is not only the face of the franchise, but he's the leader of that team and a SB-winning, HoF QB. About the only way Brady wouldn't be consulted is Belichick's ego...i.e., he may not care what any of his players think. -

Why do you even say that? It's not like even Modrak took any of Kiper's suggestions. -
Chan thinking of going to 4-3 defense?

Whitner finally says something that makes sense
BuffaloWings replied to billsfreak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I kinda disagree. You wouldn't expect a decent player to be taken 8th, you'd expect an impact player to be drafted 8th. It's not Whitner's fault where he was drafted, so it's hard for me to give him any crap. But with all of the talking he does, it's better for him to shut up and back it up on the field. -
This...combined with what CodeMonkey said. Ralph is also a businessman, so one would think he'd have the business sense to get something rolling. Based on a few of his comments to Wawrow, I think he's either going to sell to someone pretty soon or have something in place upon his passing.
-
Totally forgot about that! It was 1986 and the Jets were 10-1. It was Paul Maguire that said the Jets wouldn't win another game that season. I remember the entire NBC studio gasped at such a notion. The Jets finished 10-6 and barely made it into the playoffs.
-
And Minnesota isn't playing that well right now. Favre is probably hurting that team more than he's helping. Still, the Jets aren't bad. I still don't put them in the Superbowl favorite category yet, but they're contenders.

Its time to move on to Brian Brohm
BuffaloWings replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, it's not like we're going anywhere. If the Bills were even 2-3 right now, there's no way you don't keep Fitzpatrick running the show. But they're 0-5 with no real light at the end of the tunnel. What do they have to lose? If Brohm stinks it up, Fitz goes back in. I don't see what's so complicated. -
Figures. I'm being dragged to the in-laws in Rockland County this weekend...the one week I could watch the game.

It's not a rebuilding year
BuffaloWings replied to BillsfaninFl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bingo. Perhaps I should have said you can't build a team this season. Yes, Baltimore, Miami, & Atlanta did it in 1 season. That doesn't mean it will ALWAYS happen and that we should expect this right away. Hasn't everyone been saying that there's little talent on this team? How do expect ANY coach & GM to build a winning team in one season if the right talent isn't there? -
It's not a rebuilding year
BuffaloWings replied to BillsfaninFl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. You can also consider that as "rebuilding". You can't build a team in one season (despite what Sparano/Parcells did with Miami), so Chan & Buddy are taking this season to evaluate. I don't see how it can be any other way right now. -
Thanks, guys. I was really leaning against it, anyway, but I needed another opinion. However, I forgot to mention that I also have TJ Houshmanzadeh at WR, so my WRs are a little deeper. Still, I'm not sure if I want to give up my #1 draft pick even though he's banged up right now. A co-worker of mine told me to jump on it because Andre Johnson has a high ankle sprain and because thinks Ryan Matthews is a stud. My league is pretty deep - 12 teams. We start 12 players (2 QBs, 3 RBs, 4 WRs, TE, K, DST) and have 20 on our rosters, so it's difficult to pick up any of those guys you mentioned. Right now, the top free agent RB in our league is Earnest Graham, if that tells you anything.
-
I'm in a PPR league, so WRs are prime real estate. However, my RBs have taken a huge hit. Reggie Bush & Knowshon Moreno are hurt and all I have left is Marshawn Lynch, who is now on a bye. I was offered this trade today: I would be giving up Andre Johnson for Ryan Matthews and Matt Cassel. I could use a QB since I mistakenly drafted two QBs who have a bye in the same week (we start 2 and take the better score). Cassel wouldn't be starting for me (I have Flacco & Matt Ryan), but he'd help during that bye week. My other WRs (start 4, take the best 3) are Austin Collie, Miles Austin, Josh Cribbs, Steve Johnson, & Michael Jenkins (who is still hurt). Should I do this? Johnson is hurt and questionable and I could still use a RB.

It may be dumb, but if it makes the Pats* worse off, I'm ok with it.
