THE ROCKPILE REVIEW – Bills in Control
Sierra Foothills replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall
It won't be a popular thing to say but honestly, too many of our fans are spoiled. You can tell just from being here at TSW that many are stuck in "show me" mode. I see crowd shots and see too few people trying to make noise. I see where season ticket holders are disinclined to attend games and sell their tickets to whomever. This QB and team deserve better than fans that are lazy and entitled. Thank goodness we still have a majority of great fans but too many bring nothing to the stadium. Yep. As much as hate to say it (and again, it wont make me popular to say so) too many Bills fans are jaded and spoiled. I loved that the team showed zero panic. Talk about a workmanlike effort... Plan your work and work your plan. I saw where some fans were not happy that the Bills didn't win more decisively... as if style points matter. The Bills did what they had to in order to win and they weren't interested in impressing anyone by needlessly running up the score or going pass happy on offense. I for one, like that. The Bills defense is playing their best ball of the season. The team is healthier than they've been all season. I'm VERY bullish on the Bills. I see where some people were commenting on the dominance of the Rams defense in their big win over the Vikings last night... the same defense that the Bills hung 42 points on. The Rams had 9 sacks against Minny but ZERO against the Bills. The only thing that has slowed the offense this year are injuries, the unfamiliarity of many new parts, and the occasional bad play call. At this point I don't believe there's a defense in the league who can slow down the Bills O which is hitting on all cylinders. Now fully healthy, the Bills are finally "multiple" on both sides of the ball. I believe we'll see an assignment sound and deceptive defense and I'm excited to see what wrinkles the team throws at the Ravens. Agree 100%. It was posted elsewhere and bears mentioning again, even in spite of the injuries and new starters, the Bills were 3rd in points allowed at home... 16.3 points allowed. -
Marcell Dareus Arrested in Alabama on DV Charges
Sierra Foothills replied to HurlyBurly51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mutiny on the ship? It was really a great draft, especially for D-linemen: JJ Watt, Robert Quinn, Ryan Kerrigan, Aldon Smith, Adrian Clayborn, Cam Jordan, Muhammad Wilkerson, Cam Heyward, Jabaal Sheard, Da'Quan Bowers, Nick Fairley, Corey Liuget, Jurrell Casey That draft also featured AJ Green, Patrick Peterson, and Julio Jones in the first 6 picks. You should be promoted to commodore! -
It's been well documented in this topic that the Bills D was very shorthanded in the week 4 meeting. On the other side of the ball, it was only the 4th game in Joe Brady's new offense. Newcomers who would eventually become regulars such as Mack Hollins, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel and Ray Davis were still growing in the offense. Amari wasn't even here yet It was also only the 4th game with a new starting center and left guard. I'm hoping to play KC next week en route to the Super Bowl, not Houston. This is a fairly popular opinion among media and fans alike. Thank you very much for doing this. I really appreciate your integrity as a Bills fan. Do you still call your first girlfriend's old phone number? Just curious. Thanks again and bump.

I only saw bits of his last two games but boy, did it look like JJ was struggling to get open. Publicly urinated and spit upon, admonished with epithets, and only then, shot. Then left to rot in the town square and defecated upon... as their relatives are forced to watch in abject shame...

That'll make it all the sweeter when we curb stomp their asses!!! (said the guy in the safe confines of his study with the cat curled up on his lap) Milano didn't play either and Rapp was injured and played only 28% of the snaps. Clete Blakeman Blake Cleteman Man Blakeclete Blake Manclete Man Cleteblake Clete Manblake I'd better stop drinking... gotta work in the morning...
-
And who's been in the sun for too long... They got Alex Anzalone back and that's like us getting a healthy Milano back. It's huge. Yeah it's a real disappointment. The worst thing this community does by far.
-
Milano looked very close to the Milano of old. It was hugely encouraging. Having a healthy and confident Milano will go a long way to containing Lamar. Milano is the exact kind of player you want on the field against Lamar. Yeah I was highly annoyed when that started happening. If I recall correctly the Bills called a defensive time out and fixed that problem.

Tampa Bay still has the stench of Jon Gruden and Tom Brady... easy cheer for me.

Another disaster by McDs defense in the playoffs
Sierra Foothills replied to RoscoeParrish's topic in The Stadium Wall
Did you know that the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary? Any prediction for next week? -
Compensatory pick formula. Good game btw. Two good teams and evenly matched as well.
-
This is all fair and good but the OP was that he's not Top 5 and that it's disrespectful to mention him in the same breath with Josh.
-
How much time will run off the clock if you don't call a time out.

Melissa: "Alright Coach, thanks and good luck" Bowles: "Yeah"

It looked like he was jogging towards the wrong sidelines...

The closest margin of victory in the previous 5 games is 12 points (Green Bay-Philly). "Didn't I, Didn't I, Didn't I tell you to stop singing?" Glad to hear the two of you have been getting along lately. On that play along the sidelines I was surprised a flag wasn't thrown... especially because it was on the Commanders' sideline.

The reason this conversation exists is because 2 years ago and then again last year, Herbert was anointed an elite QB by league insiders in a highly-regarded survey. In both 2022 and 2023 he was ranked in Tier 1 according to Mike Sando's annual ranking system which is based on his conversations with "50 league insiders including general managers, head coaches, coordinators and more, all of whom placed every quarterback into tiers for the annual rankings." A Tier 1 QB "can carry his team each week. The team wins because of him. He expertly handles pure passing situations. He has no real holes in his game." 2022 was also the first year that Josh Allen appeared in Tier 1 so in 2022 and 2023, Herbert was widely viewed by league insiders as very close to Josh Allen. 2022: 1) Aaron Rodgers 2) Patrick Mahomes 3) Tom Brady 4) Josh Allen 5) Justin Herbert 6) Joe Burrow 2023: 1) Patrick Mahomes 2) Joe Burrow 3) Josh Allen 4) Aaron Rodgers 5) Justin Herbert I believe Herbert was also the AFC's top vote getter among QBs for the 2022 Pro Bowl. For those who can get behind The Athletic/NYT paywall: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/3443022/2022/07/25/nfl-best-quarterbacks-tiers/ https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4723809/2023/07/31/nfl-quarterback-tiers-rankings-2023/ That's why this conversation exists.

Someone upthread compared him to Trevor Lawrence and I think that's a good comparison. Neither seems to raise the level of those around them. Occasionally they'll look great (Sam Darnold's another one) but they don't play consistently great.
-
I've posted similar thoughts also. I find the esteem in which he's held to be annoying and offensive. They need to let Quentin Johnston go see if he's an NFL wide receiver somewhere else. He's not helping Herbert's career. The thing is though... Herbert doesn't seem to make those around him better.

Chargers at Houston playoff game thread

For me, one takeaway from this game is that Nico Collins is right up there with Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase. He has everything. -
Chargers at Houston playoff game thread
Sierra Foothills replied to scuba guy's topic in The Stadium Wall
You guys are 100% correct. The Tush Push is never a deceptive trick play. So that being the case, just put different personnel in there and make it as automatic as the Eagles and Bills do. No brainer. If he doesn't have the most drops in the NFL it's only because of his limited target count. Percentage-wise I can't imagine anyone with a higher drop percentage. It's incredible... and this guy was a high draft pick? People on this board were touting him too... just like they were writing off Bryce Young... and countless other examples of prematurely making judgements on players. In the recent Chargers-Patriots live game thread, I was saying what a POS Herbert was and of course he ended up having one of the best games of his career. But yes, this is the real Justin Herbert. I actually had that surgically expunged from my hippocampus. Thanks for the traumatic flashbacks. He's as frisky as young colt, giddy on fresh pasture! This reminds me of the old joke about two blondes trying to drag a deer kill out of the woods. And he's not even wearing a Guardian Cap. He's a fine young lad though... bright eye and sharp chin, and fresh as an irish spring morning. Whatever happened to DJ Chark? Elite physical specimen, high draft pick, 1000 yard season for Jacksonville... and then nothing. -
Deshaun Watson suffers 2nd achillies rupture
Sierra Foothills replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
It remains... a factory of sadness... The reason this might be plausible is if he doesn't want to play anymore. If they demanded he play and he refused, it would be breach of contract so it's not beyond the realm that the two parties could settle. Watson's contract was unprecedented. I doubt it's a cautionary tale because it never happened before and I doubt many owners would have followed suit even if this hadn't turned into a complete disaster. Watson's still getting paid at this point so only one party is being punished for their misdeeds... the Browns. The conspiracy theory is that this was done to give both sides an out. The other possible scenario is if the re-injury stemmed from a prohibited activity. If that were the case the Browns would be trying to void the contract. Why would Watson do that? Chicago has been cursed and it has been blessed. Since 1985 Bears the city has won done well. The Cubs and White Sox have each won a World Series, the Blackhawks have won 3 Stanley Cups and the Bulls have won 6 NBA Championships. So since 1985 the city has had 12 world championships. Not Boston but not bad. Not only that, the team sold their soul to acquire Watson. They offended many decent people by trading for him. -
Whoever they put back there at least has to be trusted to fair catch the ball. Yes. Teams have to make sure they have a deep returner on punts. Thank you.

NFC pummelled the AFC in h2h matchups this year
Sierra Foothills replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sample size is too small... year to year is a pendulum swing. Very few people (even in Minnesota) believe that Sam Darnold can lead them to the promised land. I love that the Bills are 2-0 versus Kansas City and Detroit this year and the rest of the league is 2-30. -
Amari Cooper, I like him more everyday (ESPN article)
Sierra Foothills replied to RochesterLifer's topic in The Stadium Wall
I will say that Amari is the "Anti-Diva" wide receiver. It's premature to judge Coleman. He's still a rookie for god's sake. Take a good look at Courtland Sutton on Sunday. That's the kind of wide receiver that Keon can become. Not only is it premature to judge Amari Cooper, it's also premature to judge Von Miller, even after nearly 3 years on the team. Both of these players were acquired to make us a bona fide championship contender. Neither has had the opportunity to do that yet.
