  1. In the first two games, I thought that Buffalo may have felt the 4-3 was a more effective way of containing potent running games with Derrick Henry and Breece Hall. Miami doesn't fit that however. Taron Johnson's health could be a contributing factor as could Shaq Thompson's experience. Cam Lewi, who can fill in for Taron Johnson is also banged up a bit. Thompson did have a beautiful TFL in the Miami game.
  2. I'm sure everybody knows, but the West Coast offense is a language/system for calling plays, originally employing a philosophy of moving the chains by stretching the field horizontally using a short passing game. Early proponents of the West Cost did not tend to rely on the run, but mixed it in to contribute to the general strategy. As it has evolved, there are coaches using the West Coast terminology who actually like running the ball and/or mixing in a deep passing game. Anybody can avoid a deep passing game. Buffalo, of course, uses Erhardt-Perkins terminology and Brady certainly likes running the ball.
  3. The missed field goal was pretty brutal. There is also the issue of Prater's age. He's 41 years old, and if the Bills opted to go with him, it would likely be a short term solution only. I don't think it is an easy decision at all for Buffalo.
  4. If I remember correctly, Kincaid and Knox also dropped passes in the game. It's true that a potential catch for a touchdown is pretty crucial, but all drops can be potential somewhat important.
  5. It did feel like the Bills were in control. I have a philosophical difference with Brady. His philosophy seems to be to call plays conservatively as long as you can. That philosophy allows apparently weaker opponents to hang around longer. I would prefer that he have his offense playing "pedal to the metal" until the Bills are up by three or four scores. Then you can back off and call the rest of the game conservatively.
  6. There will be opportunities to rotate Hairston in. There also might be situations where the Bills might think Hairston's skill set can be a better matchup for the Bills.
  7. At times it was brilliant. At other times not so much. I thought the Dolphins called a pretty strong game both offensively and defensively. Tua did Buffalo a huge favor when he failed to see Bernard rushing in to jump the pass.
  8. Not sure Ogunjobi will make a huge difference. Agree on the other two players.
  9. It just feels like it didn't need to be that close.
  10. Too bad there is no Miami fan here like Jimmy Spagnola for the Jets. It's always fun to talk a little smack with an opposing fan who has little chance of getting the last word.
  11. All of Buffalo's "questionable" players will be active tonight, including Taron Johnson. With Tre white back and seeming to play well and Taron Johnson healthy enough to play, Buffalo might have the strongest CB group that they've had in several years. They get Hairston back soon and Dorian Strong is playing pretty well, so they are suddenly going to have really quality depth.
  12. I agree. While it is true that Buffalo has handled Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins and on paper this seems like an easy win, you still have to play the game. Miami is in desperation mode. There is a sense that Mike McDaniel's job could be on the line if Miami starts out 0-3. This game is their chance to turn their season around and they will do anything they can to make it happen.
  13. Granted, the Jets are not nearly as formidable as the Baltimore Ravens, but the Jets offense was pretty productive against the Steelers that typically has a pretty tough defense. That's been the case in the years since Ben Roethlisberger with the offense usually being mediocre. It's been defense that kept Pittsburgh competitive.
  14. In Buffalo's first three games of the season, Tua is the least mobile QB.
  15. I'll bet they could make polarized visors that would reduce glare and actually improve visibility over even no goggles at all.
  16. Three months recovery will leave Burrows the chance to start at most about four more games. Cincinnati could already be out of the playoff hunt.
  17. I think that Buffalo has a pretty good handle on defending against Miami's occasionally explosive passing offense. I can't imagine Miami even slowing down Buffalo's offense. My guess is the Bills will beat the spread and the only thing that will hold the margin of victory down will be Buffalo playing backups in the fourth quarter. My only regret is that Buffalo has to play New Orleans after they beat Miami. It seems like a complete waste of a mini-bye when you have to play the worst team in the league after it.
  18. That, of course assumes Buffalo will lose a game this season. Actually, one possibility that we might keep an eye on is the chance that Buffalo will have wrapped up home field advantage or even they playoff seeding before the last week or two of the season. I could easily see the Jets starters beating the Bills' backups.
  19. I think that the decision to use more 4-3 lineup versus the Bills' typical 5-2 nickel as their base is probably due more to who they are facing. Everybody knows what Derrick Henry can do to safeties that he outweighs by 50 lbs and can often outrun anyway, but Hall is no slouch most weeks. Dorian Williams is no Matt Milano when it comes to diagnosing what the offense is doing and covering running backs and tight ends in passing routes. On the other hand he's faster and more athletic than most linebackers in the NFL and he improved greatly on the mental aspect of his game in 2024 versus the previous year. Given Miami's offense, I have every expectation the Bills will go with a nickel lineup as their base on Thursday whether Taron Johnson is available or not.
  20. I picked the Bills in one and Atlanta in the board's official group. Still alive in both. I'm glad there was no early massacre like a year ago.
  21. There are times when Brady is brilliant and a few times when I know what play he's going to call and I know it won't work and I'm right.
  22. He was a Yogi Berra wannabe. Nobody could butcher the English language like Berra, but Hank Bullough certainly tried.
  23. Harvey Johnson had been an assistant coach when Ralph Wilson fired the head coach. I don't think Johnson really aspired to be a head coach and may have known he wasn't head coach material. He was pretty pathetic.
  24. I saw a couple from Dawson Knox today. I missed a good part of the first quarter. I think the first quarter was the worst, statistically, for Allen passing the ball. I also missed Josh's big run.
  25. LOL That may not be the case any more.
