Are sports’ drafts fair to the players?
Bob in STL replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the NFL got rid of the draft or the salary cap the league would become like the professional soccer premiership. Only a few teams have any chance of success. -
It must be draft time.

McGahee, Alphonso’s Pancake Breakfast, and Coach Greggggo -
Great stuff. Facenda helped create the image of the NFL back then. Looking today at all the NFL coverage on TV, Internet, social media. All the ex jocks and Bozo’s out there. The saying “less is more” really rings true.

FA RB/return specialist Tyler Ervin visiting Bills
Bob in STL replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably so. I like that Beane not only re-signed his best players at a discount relative to past markets. The good thing is McBeane have a culture that make players stay. I think this is a bring competition in signing. This guy might be pretty good too. I like the position we are in. -
Lots of potential. Good signing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Beane scores again.

I workout warrior with limited experience. I am sure there are many projected very good starters left. Pick a developmental guy later. -
He is a football player. Versatile and possibly a very good return man. He makes plays. I’m surprised he didn’t get offers? Tough environment for free agents for sure.

Just this weekend I met a restaurant owner who is a former LA Ram/St Louis Ram front office exec. He retired on the teams last move back to LA and has a number of business interest in St Louis. We talked football for quite awhile and he had the comments about the Bills: - lots of people want to play with Josh Allen - Brandon Beane is a brilliant Executive - in his time with the Rams the Bills were a very common team on players “no trade” lists. He said he was friends with Polian and Marv and was very happy to see the Buffalo football become relevant again.

I guess Etienne could be an impact player, or not. High reward but carries the RB risk. Mayfield could be ten year starter for all we know. If a CB is in their list of BPA that is the pick, although I wish we find a edge rusher.

Thanks and Farewell to Matt Barkley

The Renegade Dance. LOL. His legacy is more of an assistant coach in the QB room, a team first guy with a great sense of humor, and he and his wife were contributors to the positive culture of the Bills players. Great guy. Class act. He did a lot for the community too. http://urbanctr.org/2020/04/21/barkley-family-shows-their-love-for-children-at-hope-house/ -
Who had the Biggest One Year Wonder Season?

For Bills maybe Bobby Burnett. -
Yes there are others on the roster. Sweeney is still promising and I hope he can take a big step to Knox’s level. Becker is the blocker type as you said. I see room to spend late round picks on another TE, assuming a higher TE prospect doesn’t fall to us.
-
Even if Knox is the starter, they need to replace both Kroft and Smith. I think they will draft a TE too.
-
I guess Hollister is also a good blocker. Need one TE that is like a second OT and can blow people up (like Lee Smith did).

Is he at Applebee’s?

Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]

I think the longer it takes the move leverage Beane gets. -
I absolutely HATE our team’s focus on Special Teams

Kickoffs and punts are plays that have the largest yardage swing in one play. It pays to be good at them. I love when we force a team to start inside their 20, or when our punt team swings the field position in our favor. Many of the best ST players often start as cheap backups and then earn the right to modest contracts. -

I think our best TEs are Metzellars and Warlick. Keith McKeller had promise, but injuries and a short career. -

Rueben had terrible hands. Great athlete but he dropped a lot of balls. -
What you describe happens to Allen every week. New England especially is great at disguising their defense. Every team does that, even the Jets. The Bills problem on offense was execution, not play calling. They just did not play well. They missed chances to convert and they failed in the red zone. The Bills - Giants Super Bowl has been analyzed for 32 years. The Giants simplified their game to stop crossing routes and kept a lot of people in coverage. We failed to adjust and run the ball until it was too late.
