Do The Bills Have Enough "Elite" Talent?
JohnNord replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ed Oliver is a good player. He’s not anywhere close to elite. He will feast on inferior talent but when facing top interior line play he disappears like he did against Kansas City If you watched that game, it was clear Allen and maybe Shakir were the only guys that showed up to play. That’s why I can understand the incorrect narrative as annoying. It was Allen disappointing as much as it was the rest of his teammates and coaches -
Do The Bills Have Enough "Elite" Talent?
JohnNord replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
To be honest…not really. You have Josh Allen and no one else on offense and that is a major problem. Diggs? Watch the game against Kansas City and tell me he’s elite. Kincaid has the chance to be elite, but he’s not there yet. Defensively I’d argue that Milano is/was elite and Taron Johnson is among the top NCB’s in the league. So that means the Bills have 3 at most. Here’s where you can fault Brandon Beane and maybe McDermott as well. They’ve drafted and signed lots of “solid” player and only a few busts which is good. But you need a few more “elite” players to get over the hump. All of the 6 out of 7 players you listed from KC were draft picks - including 3 draft picks added over the past 4 seasons. 3 of the 7 SF players you listed (and don’t think all 7 are “elite”) were acquired through FA/trade. The Bills have not landed high end talent either through FA or the draft and it’s one area that’s holding them back. -
Dion Dawkins cryptic tweet UPDATE: EXTENDED PER SCHEFTY
JohnNord replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
Poor analogy. The only similarity is that they both play LT. It appears that Dion loves the team, wants to stay in Buffalo but is on the final year of his deal. Peters signed a new contract, but wasn’t happy in Buffalo, so he demanded a new deal using the rationale that he switched to LT. it was a tactic to get out of Buffalo and it worked. -

Your Top UFA Targets for Free Agency Monday
JohnNord replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
I could see that…. But you don’t count on a lower round safety to fill in as a start during a year when you plan to content for a Super Bowl. Yeah I don’t like that thought. Didn’t he Bills already have a WR4 who dropped a few big passes in a big playoff game? -
Your Top UFA Targets for Free Agency Monday
JohnNord replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills liked Jeremy Chinn coming out of college. Plus due to injuries and inconsistency, I think his value won’t be as high as it should be. He seems like the type of FA the Bills will target -
D.Henry to Free Agency & BUF News Makes Case to Sign Him
JohnNord replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m not so sure that Henry will settle for $4M contract or downgrading himself to a reserve role. In his mind, he’s still going to want carries. Not only won’t he get that in the Bills offense, he’s also going to need to share carries with James Cook. I just don’t see it happening, though I wouldn’t hate it if he came on board -
Who's your breakout players for next season?
JohnNord replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
You have to think Brady find a way to get the ball to Kincaid more often and further down field. I also think we’ll see a lot more targets and receptions from Shakir. Where are those targets coming from…it’s too obvious. We will certainly see Stefon Diggs numbers fall off. Anyone who thinks he’s still a 100 REC 1200 yard receiver is just fooling themselves. 2024 is the year they phase out Diggs and rightfully so -
I think I have to bail on all offseason NFL media coverage
JohnNord replied to The 9 Isles's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s boring any way. If you watch the coverage you hear the same thing about every team: - The 2024 schedule is going to be so hard. - “struggling young QB” is going to have a big season after getting experience in the offense. - “draft pick X” is going to make a huge impact. - The defense is going to make major strides with “defensive coordinator X” -
Yes because why would Von voluntarily take a pay cut? It doesn’t happen often and I’m pretty sure the NFLPA doesn’t support this. I think Beane laid out both scenarios and Von took the one that most beneficial to him.

If I was allowed to start a new thread, I would ask this question “How much do you blame Brandon Beane for missing on Von Miller?” Because I don’t blame him. He gave a lot of money to an older player, however he had no way of knowing Von would blow his ACL and never be the same player. This is the risk you run with ANY player, you’re always one bad injury. When Von was active, he made an impact and had he played an entire season in 2022, he’d likely rack up between 10-12 sacks. I guess you can point to his age, however really elite DE’s like Bruce Smith or Reggie White played very well into their 30’s. I wouldn’t put Von in that tier but he’s not that far off. Its easy to look at Von last season and then to look at his contract and think it was a colossal bust but in doing you, your using a lot of hindsight.

So you’re predicting moves by opponents that haven’t even been made yet 🤣🤣🤣 Solid logic. -

Your using last years results to project next season. I’m going to save this tweet and we’ll all have a nice chuckle next offseason…when someone else will say “brutal schedule in 2025” 🤣🤣🤣 -

BS…People said the same last year. And the year before. And the year before that. We don’t even know the full rosters yet or how teams will perform and you’re already annoying this the “hardest schedule ever.” Peak offseason overreaction -

How does today compare to Black Thursday Feb 10, 2000?
JohnNord replied to Livinginthepast's topic in The Stadium Wall
I see the parallels for sure but it doesn’t compare in any way. In 2000, Kelly and Levy were gone for years and the 3 big releases truly felt like “the end of an era.” It kind of does today but it’s just not the same. Bruce and Andre played 14 seasons which was twice as many as the group cut today. Thurman had 11 years which is 4 more. Also the group in 2000 experienced more success individually and as a team for a longer span of time. So not having the marquee names on the felt like a huge blow. Where there are similarities with 2000 and 2024. We could noticeably see these great players slowing down a bit as they aged and battled injury. Players couldn’t play at the level that they paid at anymore and the cap situation was bad. We knew that the releases were a definite possibility based on the cap, but we’re still surprised when it happened. Interestingly enough, releasing Andre and Thurman proved to be the right move. Both players were out of football in less than 12 months. I can see Poyer and White follow a similar path though probably longer than 12 months. Bruce played 4 more seasons and still a very good DE but a far cry from the dominant All Pro he had been. Either was I think when we look back we’ll realize it was the right decision just as we did in 2000 but it still sucks. Much like the players released today, the problem was his contract. While he was a good DE at his age he just couldn’t live up to his contract. -
I echo just about everything you had to say. These moves were necessary from a cap standpoint but I think they have happened regardless. These were three older players, who are all still talented enough to play but probably weren’t going to live up to their contracts. Still sad to see these players leave

The believe online is that Chicago could be signing him to a new deal and will be taking on a lot more of his cap hit. So the Bills could see more cap relief that what’s already on the books
-
was this today? I’m going to go back and listen

Unless Buffalo addresses WR in a big way, this is a bad move IMO. It’s clear that the Bills need some major improvement on the outside
