Ryan Fitzpatrick: Hall of Famer? or First Ballot HoFer?
JohnNord replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
John Clayton loves to reference this take from former Bills OC Ted Marchibroda: “Longtime NFL coach Ted Marchibroda always preached that a good backup quarterback can win a team three games, but if you play him six games, he can lose a team the next three.” This is Fitzpatrick in a nutshell. But it’s more like he’ll win you 3 games and lose you 4 or 5! There are times when the guy is just unstoppable but also times where he looks terrible. I really have never seen a player with such Jeckyl and Hyde tendencies. The final game of the 2015 is a great example. Jets were primed for a playoff appearance after a big win versus New England and he shat the bed. Then during the 2nd game of the 2016 season Fitzpatrick was absolutely lights out versus the Bills in the first color rush game. Rex’s defense had no answers for Fitz as he easily completed pass after pass to Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker it was an embarrassing display of defense. Fitzpatrick is an anomaly at the QB position. I so wish the Bills had signed him before the start of last season to backup Josh. It seems like those two would get a long great. -
I think it’s a given they pick up his option. Based on his improvement throughout 2019 and the encouraging signs for the first 2 week, he has earned that. If all goes well, I would bet that the Bills will set him up with a long term contract sometime next season. I honestly believe that the Bills are going to be 100% sure before they commit because as several have pointed out - it’s a huge hit to your cap. Best case scenario - I would be willing to bet the Bills will follow a model like the Chiefs did with Mahomes. If all goes well this season the Bills will look to extend Allen before the start of year 4. Obviously this changes if the Bills struggle this season

TNF: Dolphins at Jaguars, 8:20 on NFLN
JohnNord replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What happened tonight? I thought Miami was the 2nd worst team In the NFL, behind NYJ -
IDK he’s playing quite a bit of defensive snaps I wouldn’t make this jump. I do think is fair to question what his ceiling is based on how his career starts but as someone wisely pointed out you could say the same about Ed Oliver in Wwek 2 of 2019 and he came around

McD vs. McVay: Revisiting the 2016 matchup
JohnNord replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good insight. Considering the differences in players, staff, and experience, I’m not sure how much you can take away from this. I do know that just like in 2016, McDermott has held own against powerful, explosive offenses as we saw the last season versus Baltimore and later in the playoffs versus Houston. I think LAR will be a great test for this football team on both sides of the ball. -
I didn’t like the pick but only because my entire Twitter timeline was filled with tweets from PFF and FO about how bad of a QB Josh was going to be in the NFL. They same people that trashed Josh also sang the praises of Josh Rosen. I knew that Mayfied and Darnold probably would be off the board, and I didn’t think Lamar Jackson’s game would translate to the NFL (oops). So like most Bills fans I wanted Josh Rosen and wasn’t really happy with the selection. But I also had enough evidence that Brandon Beane wasn’t a dumb GM ans trusted his evaluation skills. It looks like Allen will be the Bills franchise QB, but we don’t quite know which tier he’ll be on. The next few weeks should say a lot

Updated MVP Odds: Allen is tied for 9th
JohnNord replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whatever...:it’s week 2. A LOT of season left -
Here’s another attempt to diminish Josh’s performance versus over the past two weeks: Wonderful explanation...thank you

If the price was right, then why not!?!?! But I don’t think the Bills will make a deal. They do have high hopes for Dawson Knox and they like players like Tyler Kroft and Tommy Sweeney. Plus they have been playing a lot of 4 wide. So does it make sense to trade for a player that would be used sparingly and take reps away from a player who could be a rising star?

Hard to sayS. I didn’t notice him at all on Sunday, other than the play where he couldn’t get to Howard before he crossed the goal line Relax, it was a funny joke

Not expecting to see Edmunds or Milano this week
JohnNord replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gotcha.... I’m sure he DNP because they ruled him out already. I still think there’s a good chance he returns Sunday. Milano the next week -
What did you see? I didn’t notice him on the field Sunday and I haven’t watched the game replay yet

Not expecting to see Edmunds or Milano this week
JohnNord replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe he was. He’s pretty close. In comparison, Milano wasn’t even at practice, which isn’t good but it also means they expect him back sooner than 3 games. -
Croom released from Practice Squad

Nothing personal...it was strictly business -
AJ had as many tackles as I did Sunday!

Not expecting to see Edmunds or Milano this week
JohnNord replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Edmunds participated in 2 full practices last week. I do feel that the Bills were confidence they could get by with Dodson for a week. I have a feeling that he’ll play this week. I can see Milano sitting for another week. -
Lmao, Tyrod’s gonna start another football game ?
JohnNord replied to Teddy KGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He looked pretty “ready” to me Sunday. While there were plenty of rookie mistakes, he didn’t exactly ***** himself. He’s going to benefit more from actually playing than from watching Tyrod -
Vikings fans already bemoaning the trade

Too bad many were thrilled the team got a #1 for Diggs, said he was going to be a headache and that he was not a true WR1 -
Football Outsiders Quick Reads on Josh Allen
JohnNord replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love this paragraph. Aaron Schatz and FO were dunked on so bad their last past analysis of Allen. This is their way of acknowledging that they were probably wrong, without ever saying it. “We'll start with Josh Allen and the Bills. The consensus at Football Outsiders has always been pessimistic about Allen's chances for success. Our QBASE article in 2018 noted Allen's "horrifying" statistics at the University of Wyoming, and we referred to him as "a parody of an NFL quarterback prospect" in Football Outsiders Almanac that same year.” -
Move Dodson into the starting LB's?
JohnNord replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we need to see more from Dodson. I was listening to one of the Bills reporters post game. They thought that Dodson’s plays at first glance might look better than it will when watching the game film. The middle of the field was open a lot and you have to put that on the LB’s. I think he shows potential but I need to see more -
I’m already willing to admit it, I was wrong on Diggs
JohnNord replied to DCofNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Remember all of the questions whether they gave up too much? I wonder if anyone wants that 1st round draft pick back?!?! -
Allen's evolving pocket awareness
JohnNord replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I noticed this too - in the first half especially. He continues to improve as a passer, only concern was late in the game he did some of the same things as last year like leaving the pocket with no pressure etc -
True... the only difference is that the other two have shown they make big plays to offset their turnovers. Yeldon hasn’t. Again, not his fault and he’s only been active for a handful of games. Yeldon is probably hurt by not having a preseason to show what he can do. It’s not just limited to fumbles either. In his last game against NE he struggled with blocking and his missed block essentially ended the game. He also made somewhat of a poor attempt to win a contested catch that would’ve put the Bills on top. To his credit - he did some good things as a reciever. IMO I don’t think he has the confidence of the coaching staff, at least not yet. I think they like having him in the bullpen and know that whenever he’s needed they can activate him and have a decent veteran option at RB
