A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game, in no particular order
Virgil replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thanks boss. I think a lot of people forget that these are alway meant to be examined in a vacuum. I’m not talking about the prior two games or the teams body of work, this is about just this game. If we lost because of those injuries, I’d be better about it. The defense only gave up 21 points, and I’d argue it was really 14. If you knew that prior to the game, you’d expect to win. Injuries contributed, and we put up a lot of yardages, but failed to execute when it matter with core players. That it what I’m focusing on. I knew I’d get a lot of hate for this one, but I’m also furious about how this game was handled. These types of mistakes is what leads to 13 seconds and all the other Bills misery -
A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game, in no particular order

I’m not taking it for granted. If he hits McK, people will call it the game winner. If he misses, then would you not say it lost the game as well? We scored 3 points in the second half. 3. The past is the past. Who owns that? -
A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game, in no particular order

I'll wait for the post-game press conference. But he will tell you that he should have hit McKenzie for that touchdown. No one touched him. -
Sorry, but poor coaching, mental mistakes, and being physically manhandled isn't an over-reaction. Take away the mistake by the safety to Waddle, and everything else came from normal starters. This game was chocked away. Yes, it's not the end of the world because we will play them again, but it's huge for the 1 seed. We are in a touch stretch these first 6 weeks and will need every win we can get. There's no guarantee when some of these guys will be back. When the chips are down, we need our highly paid players of Josh, Milano, and others to step up. They didn't do that today and it's concerning as to why

Which plays did we miss on the most that cost us?
Virgil replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
***** pick one. Just a ***** show. The entire team and coaches should be embarrassed -
Well, if you're going to post angry, go big or go home. If you are on team "we were injured," feel free to stop reading now. This game was embarrassing in all aspects of the game, and even beyond to the NFL. 1 - Everyone else - This whole week has been about the players we don't have on the field, yet it was the guys who stayed healthy that made some of the biggest impacts on the game. In a game of "what if's", there were countless plays you could point to that could have sent this game in a different direction. Milano with an inexcusable dropped pick 6, Josh with at least 4 passes that should have been easily intercepted, multiple lost yardage plays due to bad snaps, Brown getting just abused at RT until he also leaves the game sick, Bass with an short FG miss that could have been the game winner, and again Allen missing a wide open McKenzie for a touchdown. 2 - Inevitable - If there were one thing that kept me up at night going into this game, it was fear of miscommunication and gap integrity between the safeties and corners. In a game where the Bills did a great job of limiting Tua, Waddle, and Hill, they folded when it counted the most giving up an inexcusable 3rd and 22 to the Bills goal line. Without that play, of all of them, the Dolphins stat line is pedestrian and pull off a miracle defensive performance. 3 - Safety - I don't know enough about all of the medical protocols or options for teams in a game like this, but you really have to question the NFL after this game. How Tua was able to clear concussion protocol so quickly makes absolutely no sense. I haven't seen a QB stagger off the field like that since Joe Montana with the Chiefs against the Bills in the playoffs. I don't care how well he passed tests in the locker room, there's no way he should have been allowed to play. To be clear, this has nothing to do with the Bills losing and I don't think Tua beat us on any level. Between that, the amount of play stoppages for dehydration and cramping, and the amount of players who left the game early, something needs to be done differently. 4 - Come and take a walk on the wild side Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain You like your girls insane ("Louder!", "Alright") So choose your last words, this is the last time 'Cause you and I—we were born to die 5 - Allen - You are either a stat person or you aren't, and for this game, I don't care about Josh's stats. He lost this game for us on offense and I think he would tell you the same thing. Josh's accuracy on crossing routes was poor, throwing multiple passes behind the receivers. He threw at least 4 passes that easily should have been picked off, plus the miss to a wide open McKenzie last goal line drive. While he overcame it, the PF call to lose 15 yards was inexcusable. Josh was clearly rattled in the second half and started to press too much. Maybe it was the heat, frustration of some terrible snaps, or playing with only 3 active receivers at times, but Josh needs to be better than this. 6 - Play calling - I have to hand it to the Dolphins as they had a very good game plan for our offense and did enough to keep the Bills offense at bay. Again, you can look at stats all you want, but Diggs was relatively shut down in this game after the first quarter. Howard left the game for a while and Diggs still couldn't do anything. Davis was also quiet as we heard Gilly's name more than his. As for the Bills, they continue to collapse on short yardage plays, can't run to save their life, and flirted with turnovers a lot. Nothing ever felt fluid for the Bills on offense or defense, in a game that's almost impossible to describe to someone who didn't watch it. 7 - Motor - I understand that Moss had a big run in this game. But beyond that, Motor was the only back doing anything on the field and it's been this way through three games. Additionally, the running plays on the RPO or out of the shotgun were some of the slowest developing plays I've ever seen. You would think the offense was running on quicksand and showed no push or burst up front. And before you point to the loss of the entire right side of our line, this was before those injuries and were runs to the left side. I know we are a passing team, but this is inexcusable. 8 - McKenzie - If there were one shining light on offense, it might have been that we finally saw a McKenzie jet sweep in this game. McKenzie used his speed on quite a few plays to pick up nice chunks of yards, to the point that makes you wonder why he hasn't been used more up until now. His 20+ yard catch was a beautiful touch pass by Josh, but an equally great catch by McK. I also want to know why McK wasn't returned the free kick after the safety. Was that because it was still a punt, in theory? 9 - Special teams - Between the Bass missed FG, being pinned inside our 20 a few times, and Crowder not even getting back to the 25 after the safety, the special teams was another group who found a way to not show up in this game. Absolutely horrendous job by unit that was healthy coming into the game. 10 - Bye Week - I'll be honest, I don't know what to expect through the next 3 weeks. You can find some solace in how the defense held Waddle and Hill down, but I'm not one willing to crown the Dolphins as a top tier team yet. Going into Baltimore next week is going to be brutal, and then we still have the Chiefs after that. I know that it's early, and thankfully we get to play the Dolphins again. But we may very well need the tie breakers for the Ravens and Chiefs, so it sucks to have these games coming up when we aren't even 50% healthy. Out of everything, I just hate having a season be defined by injuries, and that's exactly what this season is shaping up to be. For those looking for more about the game, my apologies. I'm not going to cool down from this game for a long time. I can handle a loss and was expecting one. But to lose like this is just pathetic to me. The Dolphins were better prepared, had more energy, and played harder. Lose, but don't get beat in those three phases. That's on McD.

9/25/22 Gameday Bills at Dolphins Pregame Thread
Virgil replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yup. The one position that can serious ***** up Josh Allen and the offense the most -
-
So… 5 of the 11 starters on defense are out, plus rotational depth on the line. This is fun
-
I mean, Jackson, Tre, Oliver, and Settle
-
It sucks to have lost Marlowe. I thought he played well and we could use the depth now.

Micah to IR (out for the year per his agent)
Virgil replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m very curious to know the story of the first and second medical opinion. Was the second because he was looking for more optimistic results and the chance to play, or did he believe it was worse and the first opinion was going to allow him to play. With it not being his first neck injury, I wonder if he might go the Eric Wood route and retire. He’s made plenty of money and not sure if it’s worth the risk at his age. -

Who’s going to return all of the opposing teams onside kicks -
My dear lord, his supporting cast was terrible

This is going to be rough. Hyde missing time is really going to make the loss of Dane that much worse. Jordan has been the spirit of this defensive line. I don't like where this is going. We need Oliver back at a min and Elam better be ready

I absolutely hate this for a number of reasons. 1 - I worry this will be the new normal and serious influence the base ticket prices in the new stadium. If they see lower bowl tix selling for $400+, why would they not assume that's something everyone can afford. 2 - Resellers must be really digging into the Bills and ruining the market for actual fans. This is the one reason I actually support PSL's, to weed some of them out. 3 - Less games for me to go to. It's actually cheaper for me to go see the Bills play the Jets and Ravens for away games.

Do you have a problem with fans standing the entire game?
Virgil replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just read the room. If you’re the only one standing, don’t block the people behind you. If you’re the only one sitting, don’t be a grumpy old man and complain. At the game on Monday, my section stood for most of the game and I was fine with it. At other games, only when we were on defense and trying to force a punt. Read the room, don’t try to be an outlier, and don’t be angry when others are enjoying themselves. (Unless they are obnoxiously drunk) -
A Few Thoughts About the Titans Game, in no particular order
Virgil replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Also, there was a lot of hype around Cook as this new playmaker with the ball in his hands. We kept hearing about the weapon he’d be out of the backfield. His lack of playing time would Indicate to me that he hasn’t earned that time on practice and he hasn’t flashed when on the field. That qualifies as disappointing considering his draft position and preseason hype -
I was told there’d be punch and pie

A Few Thoughts About the Titans Game, in no particular order
Virgil replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
was that Edmunds? I thought Hyde tipped it -
As I said last week, I've refrained from taking notes while watching the games, so please don't break out the pitchforks if something is too terribly wrong. Also, I was at the game and the cell service was terrible, so I couldn't really check up on much in the moment. 1 - Henry - Yes, I know, this is a Bills review. However, the once known King Henry was easily considered to be the most dominant force coming onto the field not wearing number 17. However, I was absolutely floored to see how much of a non-factor Henry was in this game. Not because the Bills had a great game-plan for him, but because he seems to finally be wearing down in his age, or due to injury. I spotted at least 3 tackles on Henry were someone took him down with one arm, or solo, things that were nearly impossible in prior seasons. Groot arm-barred Henry on one play and that seemed to be all she wrote for the Titans trying to run the ball. Without any viable receivers and a much weaker Henry, the Titans are in for a long season. 2 - Stadium - @Shaw66wrote a great piece on the atmosphere and that I completely agree with, so why try to re-write what's already been well said. I only have two things to add. First, I didn't feel ESPN's presence at all in this game. I saw some camera's near Pinto Ron, but that's it. No one was on the sidelines that I could tell, nothing extra on the monitors. It was just a Bills game that happened to occur at night. Second, while I know everyone is an adult, fans really need to be saved from themselves on some level. The extra time to drink before the game was apparent, and not in a funny way. People were way to drunk to be walking up and down concrete stairs or even to be in public. It was honestly sad and I was glad I didn't see a lot of kids at the game. 3 - Diggs - Here's how I imagine halftime went in the Bills locker room. Diggs walked up to Dorsey, threw his playbook in the trash, slapped Motor and told him to fake an injury, then stared down McD until he peed a little. Because the second half of this game, 3rd quarter for what matters, was literally backyard football between Diggs and Allen. Everyone else on the Bills might as well have sat down on the field with popcorn. The deep ball touchdown reminded me a lot of the Smoke TD against the Pats where the DB got all turned around, and the minute Josh saw the hips turn, just launched it deep. Watching the play unfold from the stands was a thing of beauty. 4 - Tell me about Ray and his girl Do I know Ray has gone to meet you? Love you, I do Stay here, I won't The stars fade from your eyes 5 - Preseason - If ever you needed a game to be reminded why the preseason means nothing, watching Shakir and Cooks in this game was is. Like most people pre-game, I expected Davis being out meant that Shakir was going to line-up on the outside and have a solid game. I was not expecting the Kumerow show, if I can even call it that. Granted, Shakir messing up on that 4th and short play most likely earned him a seat in the McD doghouse, but Shakir was a complete non-factor in this game. As for Cook, he may have broken off one good run in the 4th against back-ups, but he was still a non-factor in the game and looked kind of slow to me. 6 - Pass Rush - I will take all the credit for Groot having a good game, as I decided to wear his jersey to the stadium. Outside of that, it seemed like the Frazier focused on more of a contained pass rush, as it Groot and Von looked to be trying to run around their blockers and coming in wide. They rarely hit home, but Tannehill had not choice but to stand still in the pocket. I'm sure everyone wanted to see another 7 sack game performance, but you can't argue with the results as Tannehill put on an absolutely dreadful performance and got benched after the pick 6. 7 - Jordan - This man is worth his contract just on being a hype-man alone. Jordan was all about the fans in this game, waiving his arms to get the crowd louder, running around the endzone, and overall just giving the defense it's personality. His performance didn't jump off the stat sheet, but neither did anyone on the Titan's offense. In a game where I was initially worried about the loss of Ed and Settle, I was calmer to know Jordan was still in there. 8 - Edmunds - I can't even think about how long it's been since I had something positive to say about Edmunds, but he really had a monster first quarter. Not only did he get into the backfield, but he got their fast, decisively, and laid the lumber on a few plays. He looked like an absolute menace, before completely disappearing for the rest of the game. While that may seem like a knock on Edmunds, it's really not as the Titans offense just puttered through the rest of the game looking like a high school team during their first practice. 9 - Beane - While not on the field, and while we did play against the broken Titans, Beane deserves the game ball for me here. To be down our #2 receiver, #1 and #3 DT, #1 and #2 DB, and Morse for most of this game, and still have the depth to win 41-7....wow. I mean, wow. The depth on this team is ridiculous and it really showed. You can argue Elam not being on the field until later in the game, but that's also a testament to how well Benford has panned out. Now, the injuries are a concern going forward, but you have to admire a team that won so soundly, when other teams would have folded with half of those injuries. 10 - Tua - I had the pleasure of being at the Ravens/Dolphins game on Sunday, which was a perfect scouting opportunity for the Bills next two opponents. I have to say, if the Bills can just tackle and keep one safety deep, the Dolphins are the not the team their score indicated they are. I'm not trying to be cocky or predict a win (you know that goes with me), but watching each teams defense was a head scratcher to me. Both teams played Cover 1, or had both safeties within 10 yards of the LOS. Both of the Hills TD's at the end were on busted coverage because, why cover the fastest player on the field? Almost all of Tua's passes were WR screens, quick outs, or slants. There were so many balls that hung up in the air that the Ravens almost picked off. The Dolphins seem to rely on Waddle and Hill breaking tackles and busting loose downfield. While being down Jackson and Tre is scary, our LB's and Safeties being able to cover their zone's are probably the most important gameplan we can implement. If nothing else, seeing Tua's arm in person really made me appreciate Josh. Go Bills!
