  1. Wentz hurt his paw. Is anyone else wondering what Taylor Heineke would do?
  2. IMO Fields play epitomizes one of the points Warner made comparing Buffalo and Denver in his QB Confidential YouTube feature. He pointed out that both Allen and Wilson were passing up the chip shots to go for the kill shot. Allen made them, in part because his WR were “all in” to help him out. Wilson missed, in part because his WR weren’t pushing as hard. But Fields had a chip shot there to convert the 3rd down, maybe he should take the chips shots and move the chains
  3. Did I hear incorrectly, or did the announcers say he’s a vegan?
  4. “What Wentz wrong?” Is a good question. Where is Nick Foles now anyway?
  5. Did you see that funny clip where the same guy plays both the NFL and Amazon? Someone posted it in last night’s Thursday night thread
  6. Errr….can you get excitement in your call over these two teams? Asking for a friend
  7. Putting your helmet in the right place is the new “get your hands up”
  8. Nah, it’s football. I’m watching. Washington has former Bill Efe Obada, too - glad to see that guy still getting some $$ I’m too lazy to look up Fields though - has he actually run successfully in the NFL? Because the announcers are puffing him up as a dangerous rusher They keep talking about a strong athletic QB and Fields looks like Twiggy to me
  9. Don’t think there’s anything. You kindly explained what the call was and how it’s supposed to work. If I gotcha, the moment Fitzpatrick stepped back, Saffold was correct to look off to his L to help Dawkins and Morse was supposed to pass off (I think) Cam Hayward to Bates and pick up Fitzpatrick. Everyone expressing an opinion appears to think it was the correct protection call and in fact the pass was completed so “no dent, no deal”
  10. Sweeney did very very well on that play. I took back 1/3 of the things I've said about him as a blocker.
  11. Sure, but isn't that how that particular delayed blitz play is designed? I'm sure there's a correct term for this sort of blitz, which I don't know. What I see is that at the snap, 39 (Fitzpatrick) and 51 (Myles Jack) are both in position to defend the run, pick up the back in pass defense if he releases, or blitz. If Singletary releases to Jack's side, Fitzpatrick can blitz. If he releases to Fitzpatrick's side, Jack can blitz. We keep both the TE and the back in to protect, so we theoretically have a "hat on a hat" except that Saffold moves on. I mean, the play worked, so I dunno as a fan how worthwhile it is second-guessing it, I just have the fundamental sense the protections didn't work they way they should have. I understand your explanation of the slide protection and who is responsible for what gap, I just have the "something not right here" feels.
  12. Well....Gaelic football has 13 or 15 players per side on the field (26 or 30). Australian rules has 18, so 36 I dunno how they use it for those sports, but if they're using it for those sports, they must have sorted that mass problem somehow Good point that the position of the ball is often not the contentious issue.
  13. Well, yes and no. Part of Warner's point (as I see it anyway) is that both Wilson and Allen (in the Pittsburgh game), were playing balls-out in-your-face football. They both had safer, higher percentage completions they passed up in favor of "going for the gusto". Wilson can save the Bronco's season if he looks at the tape and takes more of those safe throws, dinks and dunks a bit, gets the defense to choke down on those, and THEN goes for the kill. This is the way Mac Jones had success last season.
  14. Um, Nope. This has been discussed here multiple times. A number of Chiefs players have commented on this, how Mahomes was not ready at all as a rookie (though he showed flashes) and how he improved between Season 1 and Season 2. During Reid's 10-year tenure as KC HC, the Chiefs have had a top-10 defense 7 of those 10 years. During the 5 years Mahomes has played, they have had a top-10 defense every year but his first (and so far, this season). Part of that is when you're the #1 scoring offense (his 1st season and so far this season) and score quickly, the D has can go into prevent mode and give up "meaningless" points and there isn't a lot of pressure on them to choke down on every drive. But Spagnuolo knows something and the Chiefs do not neglect stocking their D personnel. Now, back to your regularly scheduled whatever-you-call-it. Jaquon J. has a pretty defined role as the 'personal protector' on punting team. Don't want him gunning when he's starting at safety, either. How fast is Hamlin? I didn't think he was very fast but can't find a 40 time. Also if he's the starting safety, "do one thing well". Neal could be one of them. McKenzie says he's the fastest guy on the Bills team.
  15. Huh? Both Poyer and Edmunds practiced yesterday, and we don't have the list yet today. Where are you getting this?
  16. I think they've been trying various chip systems but so far nothing good enough. Part of the complication with chipping the ball has to be the current system of handling balls for the game, right? As I understand it, each team's QB tries out footballs before the game, and chooses the ones he wants. They get marked with the game they were used in, and used up to 3 (?) games. So there would have to be a large number of chipped balls supplied by each team, and a system of testing their function impartially before each game. I can't find it, but back in 2020 the Bills did a series of "Trust the ________ " short Feature Videos on various behind-the-scenes efforts of the equipment guys and trainers. They had one with Nate Breske explaining the proximity tracker systems, one explaining the process of setting up the pads and jerseys before the game (Stefon Diggs and a couple others like their gameday jerseys so tight it takes 3 staff to suit them up), and one showing Josh selecting the balls for the game and explaining a bit about what makes a ball "no" for him.
  17. I think by "he" here you mean Singletary, who took a gap in pass protection? I agree, but the beer offer still stands - once Fitzpatrick reads it's a pass play, I bet the film would show he almost always blitzes. Oh well, he was late to the fair so no harms. But I do think something is going on with Saffold and the line.
  18. OK, so here's a question. Why wouldn't the Hawk Eye system they use in Tennis work? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawk-Eye It's used in Gaelic football and Austrailan football in addition to association football. One might need different cameras than just the ones up in the roof they use for tennis but.... I laughed until the dog got worried about me at this.
  19. Right, think we agree much more than we don't. So is stuff just not being discussed enough pre-game or what? Because I'd bet you two beers that if we watched film of Minkah Fitzpatrick, he blitzes from that position the overwhelming majority of the time on a clear passing down. And I'd add a bourbon on a bet that most C in the league who try to pass off Cam Hayward (and I'm assuming that's who that is, can't see his #s) will lose him.
  20. Oh, sorry, I thought I made it clear - I agree with you that it wasn't just Josh chucking it into triple coverage. Though perhaps he could have held the safety just a little moment with his eyes. My point was it is a "trust throw" relative to the sure, safe throws underneath and it did have the potential to become a pick if Shakir deflects it.
