  1. You're exactly right, that we don't know what Josh was reading exactly/what he's being told. However, a very similar situation happened against the Jets LY....Sauce sitting in cover 2 dropped off the flat route and picked off the corner route. Just something to consider, perhaps why Josh held an extra second and ball placement wasn't as expected. Hindsight is 20/20, but we are sitting 3rd and short, with a clear cover 2 shell defense. This is where as an offense, we have to be able to convert on the ground more often.
  2. He and Dion both looked the part, played well. I wouldn't say any of our OL were great, or liabilities either. But Torrence and Dion most consistent good play. Then Morse and McGovern. Spencer gave up more pressures than I would have liked to see, getting mostly bull rushed/needed to anchor better.
  3. I don't know man. We talked about this in your thread as well. After watching the all-22 (torture in a loss, yes), Dorsey did have alot of short options dialed up that were open for 4-5 yards. We just didn't execute very well/consistent enough. Jets sat in a cover 2 shell for a large majority of plays. Again, if anything Dorsey could have changed was going more under center/working more of a ground attack. We had to be willing to take those 4-5 yard plays and let them stack. Jets started to take more chances with 5 man rushes when that happened, and that's when we needed to hit some bigger plays/RAC and that didn't happen either. I'm not saying Dorsey is perfect either. He can improve on sequencing these looks/plays IMO too. Jets LBs barely moved off their spot/drop, and that's a killer when the front 4 can get a push. We needed to find a way to move them, ie: running threat/playaction, motion, stack/bunch formations. Formationally, I think Dorsey will have to evaluate what gives Josh most comfort/see the field. So that's where I agree with you, but I'm thinking the concept/design was still focused on shorter patterns. Jets covered some well and Josh missed some easy ones.
  4. As aome suggesting that Dorsey go "conservative"/revert to rookie QB offense, I think that is the absolute worst thing to do right now. We don't need to go into a shell or make Josh into a game manager. He just needs to get into a better groove/confidence, but in our style of offense. Perhaps he and other offensive leaders sit with Dorsey, determine what works best/they're most comfortable to attack Cover 2 shell defenses and other schemes. You'd assume that already occurred, but sometimes it's not until the live bullets are flying again that you fully understand what he's "seeing" and "not seeing" in those tight windows. Ask Joe Burrow, it's not just this year that he lost them a week 1 game (same in 2022 vs Steelers, 4 INTs). Its not an excuse, but shouldnt be overreacting to the point of making big changes. All these things are fixable, and they have a lot of smart minds in that QB room...they'll get it figured out this week.
  5. I don't agree with those blaming Gabe on his route. First thing to remember, Josh faced a similar situation LY. Going off memory, early 2nd half at their own 30ish, Josh forces the smash concept (corner route) into a cover 2 zone. Guess who made the INT? That would have been Sauce, dropping and playing the deeper route (which is taught if you read #2s vertical breaking into a deep out/corner). Fast forward to a VERY similar route concept in this game. Josh stares it down and absolutely makes sure Sauce isn't dropping. This results in a late throw/poor mechanics, which puts the ball placement inside when that pass should be on the sideline. Did Gabe round his route? Sure/somewhat. The safety is also sitting on a fairly heavy inside technique, Gabe still gets to his spot. It's a poor decision to throw into a tight window and Josh either should have delivered it underneath to Kincaid OR immediately got his eyes on the next progression (Diggs crosser)
  6. As much as we all wanted the W last night, if this is a "turning point"/learning moment that gets Josh to a consistent top-level, then it's worth it. Very likely he's got a TON of negative feedback today/dissected the film. Mental toughness is a job prerequisite, he needs to look in the mirror and remind himself that he's capable of doing so much better (sure that's what he's hearing from coaches/players/family too). In terms of the next month, Raiders/Commanders/Dolphins/Jags, that's not Jets caliber defenses - but good in their own right. I think they are all very capable of generating pressure with their front 4, BUT predicting he rebounds strongly, 9 TDs and 2 INTs. Keep our oline healthy, and think they will gel more/more. Don't let Maxx wreck the game plan this week, if he's lined up over Spencer - better have a TE/RB chip
  7. This is what I saw on the all-22. Diggs motions across the formation. Knox is now "inside" of Diggs and they run a double slant concept. Knox clears and gets the LB to freeze, but the window was SUPER tight. Reid anticipated that too, great read by him. I thought backside, the dump off/swing to Cook could have been a 1st down throw (Mosely would have had to make a great play to get there). It was a trend all night with Josh struggling on the LB reads/lanes, he was just too hesistant. He made a great throw to Stef down the seam on 1, but he mostly didn't see it well.
  8. Last comment, for now: Motion: I felt like Dorsey did a great job moving Harty around in the 1st half - this put "horizontal" pressure on the Jets defense & slowed down the pressure; as well as got the LBs to open some holes in the middle of the field. This was a Daboll "staple", hopefully something Dorsey does more often; as it can create easy looks across the middle OR short passes to the flat (easy 4-6 yard gains).
  9. Went to NFL.com and clicked on the Bills game & replays (then hit all-22). I've ran into your problem on my smartTV in the past, I have to log-out then re log-in. Agree, their site is always having problems. Josh: there has already been a TON of analysis/reaction to his play. Goes without saying he was jittery in the pocket and missed some plays in the 1st half. He had a 1st down/1-1 on his 3rd down INT to Harty; he missed Cook not only on the wheel route BUT also had a swing pass to him (when set in motion) with 3 blockers on 3 defenders. It would have been a possible TD before the end of 1st half. But he also made the unreal pass to Stefon. It was an up & down 1st half Under center: mentioned before, but Dorsey needs to get back to this more next time teams want to play their ends in a "wide 9" against our shotgun. Moving under center shifted the Jets d-ends back to a 6/7 technique; and puts less pressure on the tackles (hence puts less pressure on G play having to block Quennin 1-1). It's a copy/cat league, but few have the Jets personnel, will see this week how they adjust Front 4 defense: I really liked what I saw on the all-22 from our starters (D Jones, Ed, Groot, Floyd). This is our best dline in a while, it will be even more fun to watch when we get into bigger leads/Von returns Secondary: not really tested 1-1 much, but kudos to Benford for chasing down Breece on his long run. He ran right past Garret Wilson & it's this type of hustle/effort that likely has him as CB2 right now
  10. Defense: Bernard: looking back at 1st half all-22, I thought he did a VERY good job in pass coverage/passing off routes. Dare I say more instinctive than Tremaine, albeit a limited sample, he seemed to jump the TE routes very quickly. Below is 1 example on a screen with the TE leaking down the seam. He also jumped Conklin (TE) on the play Aaron was injured & appeared to be staring down
  11. Under Center (no screen-shots): but under Center plays, had VERY good success. I'm surprised Dorsey moved away from using these formations. Either with Gilliam at FB, or 12 personnel. 3rd & long (series 2): Josh hits Harris in the flat, watching live I thought he had a path to a 1st down if he stayed outside. Looks to be the case, but could be deceiving. I think he would have got it if he stayed there
  12. I wanted to take a closer look at the 1st half & review the all-22 footage. Comments/screen-shots below, just on specific plays & players that stood out: Offense: Cook/running game: few BIG opportunities that went by the wayside Series 1: this is from our 40 on 1st down - looks like a big hole about to develop behind Morse/McGovern. Cook dances a bit too much/indecisive & it gets shut down. I think he cleans this up & it's a big gain next play - Torrence doesn't fire off the ball/DT blows him up OR this was set-up to be another HUGE gain on the ground (Dawkins pulling instead collides w/DT & Torrence, instead of kicking out the end) Series 2: at our 40, Cook gets the delay/outside draw. Kincaid totally whiffs on his block (CB-Reid, who makes the tackle); otherwise this might be a HOUSE call. For those calling out Cook for "not breaking tackles", he actually made a few guys miss in holes & would have had a huge 1st half on these last 2 plays alone
  13. Your comment about questioning "focus and desire", is maybe half right. But nobody should question his desire, trying to leap defenders 5 yard short of a 1st down, etc (plenty of examples to point out). He's harder on himself than alot of ppl, and I think that's the big concern (mental aspect of trying not to let things spiral/compound). His focus, maybe. But that's pure speculation and alot of people trying to connect the dots to his "film study comment"/hot takes from prior media reports. More likely scenario, he had trouble seeing the field/reading the LBs and safeties. That to me is concerning, because we've seen this at the end of LY too. But we've also seen him rebound and "trust his eyes/progressions". He needs to get back to "confident" Josh, that strikes that proper balance of risk taking. Then he let the turnovers compound. For the gamblers out there, it's that feeling of a big loss and making the problem worse by betting more/more to win it back. Josh looked like he was "pressing". IMO, it's staying "discplined" and situational awareness. Time and place for heroics, but he's getting the team where it needs to be by playing an efficient brand of football. This has been a Josh problem every season, balance of hero-ball/staying ahead of the sticks. Last night was a combo of all his bad habits, rearing it's ugly head. They need better 1st down/2nd down outcomes, they were behind the sticks far too often last night. Move ahead to next week, I'm certain we will see a better Josh out there.
  14. 1. Thought we didn't align properly on 2 big runs. Coach partially addressed during post game presser. I'd rather have Rapp than say Dodson 2. Seems right. McCovern had a lot of Quennin to deal with, thought he did fairly well. Josh didn't help himself out and playcalls seemed to be designed to get the ball out faster...thought he held it too long several times 3. Bernard looked fine to me, he's got to rely on his instincts/beat blockers with quickness to the hole. He did this as the game went on. I think he'll continue to be better, and didn't look like a liability 4. Impossible to say, depends if Josh plays the same. He turned it up a notch when needed, then lost that "urgency" immediately in OT. If I had to guess, it's a 8-10 point loss at most. I thought Rodgers was holding the ball too long and Zach Wilson, outside of his 1 INT actually played game manager OK.
  15. I thought the only thing Dorsey could have done differently, was put Josh under center more - work a bit more diverse running attack/playaction. We saw 1x hitting Gabe with this, resulted in a big gain. Dorsey must have been concerned with the DL getting there on 5 step drops (under center), so he went mostly gun and quicker route concepts. Honestly, alot of posters here wanted a quick passing game and that was our plan. Josh didn't execute, plain and simple. He wasn't seeing the field well at all, held the ball too long, and most costly were the turnovers. We had guys open, as others pointed out/shared screen shots. Josh didn't see them/anticipate it. 1. Dorsey did work a good amount of 12 personell, at least I thought. It just wasn't under center. 2. Cook usage/Rbs: hard to run outside against the Jets, with their DL alignment and fast LBs. So you'd say, let's run Harris/Murray more...perhaps, but that takes away another weapon and Jets also know those guys aren't running inside or near the pass catching threats. Cook got targeted on several passing plays, 1 of which should have been a TD if Josh leads him IMO, Josh bears the brunt of most blame. Dorsey, sure he's part of it, OL as well. I'm sure they'll evaluate what happened. But Josh ultimately turned it over 4 times, mostly on poor decision making. Not sure I'd correlate that to Dorsey, but perhaps there's something to be said of getting him more support/someone in his ear on sideline (so as to not let the turnovers compound- 1 or 2 fine, but 4 is not near acceptable)
  16. IIRC, you have a pattern of overreacting before all informationis collected (see Matt Araiza). Let's see if this is true/can be confirmed by anyone. Then we can speak our minds
  17. Here's the simple data: 1. Turnovers (3 or more): teams week 1 in this category went 1-6 2. Turnover differential (-3 or worse): teams went 2-5 I honestly felt like this is where we'd improve this season. The coaches, and Allen in particular, have been harping all offseason about it. Needs fixed immediately. And as much as Josh says it's not a "snowballing effect", to me it is. We can see it all over his face, he needs someone to get keep him "mentally" calm/brush off when mistakes happen. Bc he will turn the ball over/make dumb decisions, they just need to be limited and not compounded. It's Kyle Allen/Joe Brady needing to help fill that role on the sideline. Moving on, 1 week doesn't make or break the season. It's the mental toughness that's needed right now. You learn that best when in adversity/tough losses, we've seen it before, but we need to snap into a different gear now.
  18. The safety was lined up with such inside leverage, Josh was "baited" into that throw. @Beck Water pointed out, we've ran that route concept ALOT. Gabe's route was just average. With the safety lined up that far inside Gabe was getting to his "spot". Yes it was 'rounded off' route, but Josh put that ball in a horrible spot AND late (bigger problem in general). I thought Diggs was coming open on the underneath crosser, would have to go back and watch. But to me, this was another 90% Josh mistake. Gabe could have ran a better route, ball was still late though. Dorsey could have dialed up something better. But if Diggs is coming open (as I expect to see), it's mostly all on Josh. He wasn't seeing the field well and made poor decisions. Same story as end of LY. (Not directed at you, but just thoughts): There were a few moments Josh "anticipated" and made great reads. The Diggs pass down the seam in 1st half, then the end of 4th qtr drive was amazing. That's what he's capable of every drive and what he should be doing. Somehow he's become hesitant/lacking confidence/too emotionally low at times/in his own head...thats where the coaches and leaders need to sit him down. Week 1 is just week 1, but it becomes concerning when it's a "mini trend" (Bengals game to this one).
  19. I think it's 90% Josh/10% Dorsey right now. Concerns I have with Josh: 1. Not seeing the field as well as he needs to 2. Too ancy/not trusting the OL (OL does need to play better) 3. Mentally seems out of whack/not sure if this is him being too hard on himself. He just needs to be more confident and take what the defense is giving 4. Running: I think he's got to learn it's OK to run, but needs to protect his body/not take unnecessary hits Dorsey: 1. I'm not a fan of lining up in shotgun 99% of the time: it limits running attack primarily 2. Absolutely need more playaction/roll outs 3. Screen game and creativity in general is severely lacking 4. Running game: I'm not a 50/50 advocate, but we do need alot more balance. Especially helps the dline from just teeing off. Dorseys tendencies are basically the same issues I had with Daboll. Daboll was more creative/did adjust 2nd half of 2021 into the playoffs. Again alot of blame on Josh, but he's our entire offense. Feel like taking a bit off his plate, could be beneficial in alot of ways. Right now, it just seems like alot of mental stuff-and reverting back to feeling like he has to carry the offense. Dorsey needs to be find that "balance", because it's not working against top tier defenses.
  20. Josh confidence level didn't look good all game. Honestly, it's just 1 week. If it becomes a trend, I'm not against firing Dorsey mid season. That would likely mean we're meddling around .500... not sure how we go the entire 2nd half (and brief OT), just in shotgun. No creativity, nothing to get the easy 4-5 yards on 1st down. It's the exact same.offensive struggles that appeared too many times down the stretch LY. It will be a tough pill for McD. but he might need to intervene
  21. Right here Right now. LFG Josh. Need to play with that same fire and let it rip
  22. Need some better contain/penetration up front.
  23. Again, Freaking Dorsey, go under center and mix things up. No run game from the gun. It's drop back and let Josh make magic. Need to get more threat of a ground attack
  24. LFG, right here right now. Need some more time oline, get some crossers/deep ins
  25. I hope we mix up the formations a bit more this drive. Clearly Dorsey wanted quick hitting passing attack. But Jets have adjusted, time for us to get more running game/TEs involved
