Cover 1: AJ Epenesa Rookie year transformation
SirAndrew replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The final verdict on AJE as an NFL player has yet to be determined. I’m giving him a chance. I’ll admit to being a little confused why you draft a guy who needs to change to fit the mold of what the team wants. This franchise made AJE’s transition to the NFL more difficult than it already is for most players. He might be the guy who can do it, he’s just a bit of a project. -
TBD's fave Wyatt Teller in the news

Absolutely, I agree with all of the above. I do think a lot of the invasive species stuff shows the stupidity of humans. The pythons of the Everglades wouldn’t even be an issue if people didn’t keep them as pets. You also have the human desire to inhabit areas that put us in direct conflict with the ecosystem. Not only do we need to control the natural population growth, we also constantly deal with correcting human error, and controlled hunting often allows us to do so. -
This might be true, but isn’t sensationalism what television is all about? Oprah has lined her pockets for years by doing it better than everyone else. I can’t blame her for that. She plays the game very well.

What happened to McKenzie in the playoffs?
SirAndrew replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McKenzie is a gadget player who can play a nice role as a contributor for a good offense. Diggs, Beasley, Davis, and Brown all get touches before McKenzie, with the exception of McKenzie’s sweep type plays, those guys come first. McKenzie will never be a reliable receiver who sees a great deal of playing time. He was banged up in the playoffs, and they probably wanted to go to the other playmakers first. I don’t think McKenzie was the missing piece that stopped us from winning a title. -
I expect him to hold a LeBron James “the Decision” style press conference before we learn where he’s going.

I’ve noticed in America the t pronunciation is common among pseudo intellectuals who over enunciate each word in an attempt sound smart. I think its become common to assess intelligence based on speech and language more than actual content. Disclaimer: To all of you who pronounce the t in often, this is a generalized observation. It isn’t meant as a personal insult 😂

Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Tequila

Buck has the personality of a trust fund frat boy, so it makes sense he’d admit to drinking on the job just to sound cool. -
Is it time for Gronk to come home?
SirAndrew replied to BuffaloRebound's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has always been my biggest complaint about sports media. They seem to anoint who gets to be a good guys vs bad guy. Some athletes rightfully earn those titles through their actions, but others are media fueled. Gronk has been deemed a good guy because the media enjoys speaking with him. It’s often as simple as that when it comes to the media promoting an athlete. They often fail to promote the complete narrative that athletes have. If a player who wasn’t a media darling did what Gronk did to White, you’d never hear the end of it. -
RD 2, Pick 54: DE AJ Epenesa, University of Iowa
SirAndrew replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks, I’d forgotten the team asked him to lose that weight. I still worry he’ll struggle to fit the mold of what they’re looking for. It was just his rookie season, so there’s still hope. He just looked really small, and lacked the strength he showed at Iowa. We have to hope he finds that spot where he’s at his best. -
RD 2, Pick 54: DE AJ Epenesa, University of Iowa
SirAndrew replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People are quick to criticize anyone who questions Epenesa, but I have major concerns about him. The weight loss and strength issues are huge to me. It seems like the team didn’t get the guy they assumed they were drafting. How many times do those type of players turn into something special ? I haven’t given up on him, but there are some red flags. -
I was always under the impression that they make one Lombardi Trophy every season. They could easily make another one, but I didn’t think that more than one is made each year. I couldn’t find any source that said everyone gets their own Lombardi. It seems like it’s just one per team.

We need consistency from our D line, and Watt doesn’t offer that at this point in his career. I think he’d be a better fit on a team who already has solid D line play. He’s a perfect guy to take a chance on who might offer spectacular play at random moments. He’s not reliable because his health is always such a question. I’m not spending money on someone who has a strong possibility they might barely see the field. We have such a need at that position. If we didn’t have that need with extra money to spend, I’d say go for it, maybe we’ll luck into something special. At this time, the team should spend cash on filling needs with less risky players.

I always knew Brady would be that guy who needs a buddy to hold him upright after drinking.

Great post. Whether or not people refer to adult children as “ the kid” depends a lot on circumstances and context. The manner in which someone speaks also plays a big role. Growing up in small town America, it wasn’t uncommon to hear 40 and 50 year old guys referred to as “Mr. Smith’s boy”. It’s a point of reference when being used in a specific context. This story involves Andy Reid’s KC Chiefs, so that context applies imo, regardless of how fair it may be. Haven’t we all heard 90 year old parents refer to their 70 year children as “the kids” as well ? Regarding your latter points. I’m on board with everyone who says we shouldn’t judge a parent based on the actions of a child. I’d never want to be judged based on the actions of my parents or family. With that said, I wouldn’t hitch the wagon of my reputation to hiring certain members of my family either. That’s not a judgement of Andy Reid, I’m simply making the point that although I hope not to be judged by the actions of my family, some of them wouldn’t be the first people I’d hire if I were starting a business. Those people mean the world to me, but I wouldn’t have the confidence to attach myself to them in my professional life.
-
Fair enough, I don’t want to get into judging Reid’s parenting, but I was probably looking at it from the perspective of the guy’s father being his boss. Obviously Britt is a grown a man, but as Andy Reid’s child I’d fully understand why my parent fired me after breaching trust that was given when he hired me. It seems the scenario would be a little different than employment that didn’t involve family. If I were Andy and Britt I’d want to free myself of this ugly situation by mutual parting ways from that position ASAP. This is also not a judgement, but just a statement of how’d I’d probably have a different style.
-
I don’t know how the business works, but you’d think Reid could just dismiss his son from that position, or get him to resign. Feel free to comment if someone knows a reason Reid can’t just be fired. At the very least I’d hope he was encouraged to resign. Administrative leave always has such a gentle ring to it. Almost like Andy might buy the guy freedom, and once most forget he could be on the sideline again.

Yes, the Bucs won with defense, Brady, and a great supporting cast of receivers this year. They didn’t have a good running game this season. They were in an excellent rushing team in the Super Bowl, but one game isn’t always indicative of a team. Everything went right in the Super Bowl for the Bucs, because everything fell in place perfectly.
-
The Bucs ran the ball well last night, but they also had the 28th ranked rushing attack this season. I’m not convinced that Fournette and Jones are that much better than our guys. I’ve been critical of our o line, but it might just be a matter of Tampa sticking with the run that allowed it to be effective.

Would the Bills have beaten the Bucs?
SirAndrew replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, and I’m almost happy we didn’t have to witness it. Getting beating by Brady and the refs would have been a brutal way to lose our fifth Super Bowl. KC didn’t play well, but there was a lot to overcome with the way that game was officiated.
