That system has had sustainability issues in the past. An injury could completely derail it. I’m reserving final thoughts until Jackson shows he can dominate a decent defense without running or somehow manages not to get hurt for years.... If I’m an opposing D coach I’m preaching option rules to my DEs.... Hit the QB every play, even if he pitches the ball.

It offen takes offensive linemen and DTs 2 years to develop. DTs generally start flashing at the end of their rookie year. My take is Oliver hasn’t been bad, but every smaller DT not named Aaron Donald has taken 2-3 years to develop.... That includes Geno Atkins and John Randle. They need to master hand fighting technique. Ford is a little more concerning, but he seems to be slowly improving. He’ll probably improve after an off-season in an NFL conditioning program. 19 bench reps at 6’ 3” is reason to believe he’s a bit behind in upper body strength which may contribute to technique issues. Plus, whether he’s truly a guard or a tackle remains to be seen. If he ends up being a damn good guard I’ll be happy with the pick.

If you run the jet sweep there they should have tried it with Knox.... At least he can bowl over a safety and get back to the LOS. -

Maybe we’ll get to see OBJ and Baker get into a fight -
I’ll add Mike Daniels to that as well. Most of the successful “short” DTs take a season or two to really figure out how to play. Aaron Donald is certainly the exception rather than the rule.... Oliver is currently on pace to match John Randles rookie numbers. It’s gonna take some time for this kid to figure out hand fighting, block shedding and leverage at the NFL level.

I’d be curious to see the pass to run ratios for each quarter and the defensive averages by quarter. As for 300 yard games... I’m not overly concerned about that. I’d much rather see Allen consistently put up 225-250 yards with a 2:1 TD/INT ratio, especially if he’s adding another 35-50 yards on the ground and the occasional rushing TD. I’m pretty sure a fair amount of folks here will find a way to belittle a 300 yard game even if it on loves Allen beating Mahomes in a shootout. ?

Wind may have contributed. IMO the problem comes from Daboll being slow to adapt his playcalling to exploit new weaknesses in the opposing teams halftime scheme adjustments. He’s not recognizing it. It seems like he doesn’t adapt until he gets feedback from players and some photos... It’s an issue, and I don’t think it improves till Allen is able to correctly change plays at the line.

Predict the rest of the season

The Denver game is my “Billy’s loss”. Baltimore is playing us after a stretch of Texans, Rams, and 49ers. I expect them to get beat up a bit, particularly against SF. I think we have a good chance to win a close one at home. Cowboys have a similar situation playing two NFCN teams and the Pats right before us. I think this team comes out amped up for their only nationally televised game (minus a bills/pats flex possibility). -
