Should we trade Ed Oliver?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Floridagatorsbuffalobills's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is a very fair question to ask. I still say no. He is under contract. You do not have to commit long term. He is not going to hold out. When healthy he is a solid starter. Yes he is a bust compared to his draft spot but he is still a decent starter. If you trade him you immediately create another hole on the defense that would take valuable resources to fill that need to be used on offense. That's not what the Bills need this offseason. -
Bills Player Rookie Playing Time in 2022 Season
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not using Elam as a day one starter was stupid. Drafting Bernard was borderline termination offense. -
Do you still trust the defense at all?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Sharky7337's topic in The Stadium Wall
Many of us haven't trusted the defense for multiple years. Then we get told to look at their ranking and say we arent real fans. The defense has always been a fraud. We all see it. They feast on terrible QB play making the rankings look good. Then they suck when they play physical teams or teams with great QBs. Houston playoff game, Colts, 13 seconds, Miami 3rd string QB... -
Of those 5 who did the least with the most talent???

Interesting rumor…Dak to the Jets
Ethan in Cleveland replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
This would be awful for Buffalo. Jets roster is stacked and the have tons of cap space. A true QB makes them a legit playoff contender. -
Can Sean McDermott Coach the Bills to a Championship?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree. Nobody is going anywhere and I'd be shocked if even the coordinators change. For me I channel my anger more at McDermott than Beane. I think McD is the guy that overvalues special teams, decides to keep 10 DL, and gets Beane to draft a smurf LB in the 3rd round. I have no proof of any of what I just said, other than just my sense of who has the real power there. Hopefully this playoff failure will allow Beane more sway on the roster and coaching makeup but somehow I doubt that. -

How is that also not on McDermott? You don't think he has a say in who they bring in and who they let go? -
Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Fair enough. I've posted many time I hated the pick, but I see him as at least an average starter at 3tech DT. And I'm fine overpaying for one year becuase I think the replacement cost would be too high and there are too many other holes to fill. Would I be shocked if they made a trade? No. Surprised and bemused but not shocked. -
You can replace a HC. You can't replace franchise QBs. It obviously is more than just one loss. Its Peterman, its punting against the Colts, its the Houston playoff defense choke job, its 13 seconds, and now it is getting routed at home. This is a pattern of repeated failures. Can he get better and learn from mistakes? Can the team get healthy and retool for 2023? Nobody knows but it is reasonable to ask the question if McD is the guy to lead them to a Championship

Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Beane overvalues draft picks and then wastes them. While I agree my bet is you could find a team willing to give up a 3rd, then what is the point. Giving up a starting DT for a 3rd round pick? So basically Oliver for Terrell Bernard??? No thanks. I will take Oliver back on a 5th yr guarantee over a 3rd round pick. -
Bill O’Brien - thoughts about him as OC?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Only 3 pages for a guy that was just hired somewhere else. Cmon TBD you can do better than that. I like the Ertz idea. Perhaps a three way trade. Ertz and O'Brien to Buffalo, Kingsbury to New England, and Cardinals get a baseball bat and glove for Murray. -
It doesn't matter what the coa hing success was before McD. Does it matter that Bill Walsh was great in the past when deciding if Shanahan is good enough for the 49ers to win the SuperBowl. These past comparisons are irrelevant to the decision at hand. The decision is would another HC do better with the roster we have now? Or would new coordinators with the same HC do better? What Doug Marrone did or didn't do with the roster he had is irrelevant.

Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
I dont think you understand how it works. They already picked up his option. He is getting paid that money. -
While I agree there is almost zero chance McD is gone, why do you think changing Frazier will change the defense? It's McDermott's defense.

Tag Edmunds, sign Martin and Lawson. Let the rest go. That stupid 3rd round pick from last year can take Matakevich's spot on special teams. I'd take Poyer back on a team friendly deal. My guess is he will find the free agent market not as good as he nad his wife hope. He is better off staying in Buffalo on a fair deal for both.

Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is but you get Miller back and,Rousseau is,still developing. Like McD said you can't have allpros at every spot and you can't pay everyone. Oliver is already under contract. No signing bonus or longer term commitment to bring in someone else. I hated the pick then and I still don't think i would commit to him long term. But that is not the decision to be made. The decision is what to do with him for 2023. That's easy. You keep him and let him play out his 5th yr option. -

Ethan in Cleveland replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Too many holes to fill elsewhere. Keep Oliver on the 5th year option just like you did Edmunds. He is relatively cheap and no long term cap issues. Getting rid of him is the wrong solution for the wrong problem. Oline, WR, safety, and depending on what they do with Edmunds MLB, and edge rusher are the holes. Can't make more. -

Still won't stop the thread from reaching 5 pages -
Bills will not make it to the playoffs in 2023?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Cygnus99's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills will make the playoffs. I have little doubt barring an injury to Allen. If they do not, then both Beane and McD will be gone again barring injury to Allen. Heck even if Allen is hurt and they miss the playoffs, they both might still lose their jobs. -
We are a passing team best set up to play in a dome. We haven't been good in the snow since Thurman Thomas was here.
-
Why shouldn't they change? We've been to SuperBowls before. That's not good enough. We want a championship. Companies change leaders all the time. Some are good at turning things around, some are good at making them great, and some are needed to tear it down. Beane and McD were good at tearing everything down and starting over. They built something decent. But these are not the guys to win us a championship. They lucked into an elite talent and the protect him with a terrible oline. I beleive we are stuck with both McD and Beane for 2023. No SuperBowl next year and they should both be gone.

How many chances will McDermott get?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Awwufelloff's topic in The Stadium Wall
One more. He is not going anywhere this year. And sadly it would probably take missing the playoffs next season to move on from him. Personally I,would be fine with a different leader now. But it won't happen. Anything less than a SB appearance next year is a failure.
