  1. I'm not going to put much credence into the first depth chart. Most teams give veterans preference and make the rookies earn it all the way through camp. The second preseason game should give us a better picture of what we can expect in the regular season. As we fret the future release of some good prospects, we all need to remember how hard it is to make the roster on a team that is really stacked with talent. For too many years the Bills were on the other end of things and I remember watching the cuts from other teams in the hope that the Bills could snag some decent players to improve the roster. I'll take the current situation anytime.
  2. Without a venue that can conduct events all year, it is very hard to attract and keep restaurants and retail businesses in a reasonably remote location. I won't use the four letter "D" word here but with the current new stadium design, a big chunk of the year will be inactive.
  3. I believe Singletary's future depends mostly on the overall cap situation for the team. The Bills already know what to expect from him as a player and how much they will be willing to pay him. With Edmunds, Knox, and Oliver needing deals; running back is a position where the Bills can save some money and there are always other RB options available. I would like to see him back but I am skeptical.
  4. It was being reported that he was consulting with Bo Jackson on the matter.......😀
  5. Cook has the capability to work out of the slot and makes it unlikely that the Bills go heavy with receivers that are limited to working out of the slot.
  6. Taxes probably come into the picture if all of the football issues are the same between options. Zero state income taxes in Tn, Florida, and Texas are a big deal when you consider the size of the contracts that players have in the NFL. That's why it is important that Beane and McD keep the football issues in a highly desirable condition. Playing with a guy like Josh Allen likely tips the scales in the Bills favor for many free agents as well.
  7. I think you are exactly correct, as usual. In addition, it may also mean that Godwin isn't a sure thing for the start of the season.
  8. When I watch Edmunds on running plays, I see some very poor d-tackle play in front of him (mainly when Oliver is out of the game). D-line getting blown off the ball forces linebackers to take bad angles and to be screened from the play. I suspect the Bills saw the same thing and the recent changes in d-tackle players were the result. Hopefully, this will make a good improvement in the overall run defense. I believe Edmunds is a good player and is going to be here for the long term.
  9. I'm not one either. I broke 2 ribs and cracked two others when I was 21. It was about 8 weeks before I got back to normal activities. Of course I didn't have the benefit of an NFL Doc and their pain management activities. Hopefully, Saffold has a better recovery time.
  10. This is like losing that bet with your buddies and having to take "that girl" to the prom. Everything about this is just wrong.....therefore: Flutie Fitz Orton
  11. Skin cancer is no joke. I've had a minor surgical procedure and one series of radiation treatments. My doctor believed my two issues were the result of sun exposure from as far back as my childhood in Western New York. The lessons are pretty straight forward. Get regular checkups and protect yourself from serious future exposures. Tanning is no less harmful than a sunburn and both have cumulative effects. Take steps to protect your children and grandchildren also. They will appreciate not having to deal with the cancer.
  12. It was a competitive game with two evenly matched teams. The game was entertaining. When I decided to watch it, I went into it with the mindset that I would have watching a AAA baseball game.
  13. Sounds like a Brock Osweiler style trade could be in the realm of possibility, if Carolina wants to use cap cash to obtain another QB and some draft picks. I can picture Cleveland offering a deal of this nature to get Baker out of the building and not paying him the full $18.9 M. If it happens, it seems ironic that Cleveland would be on the other end of this kind of unusual deal.
  14. Creating torque to throw breaking pitches and cut fastballs puts a lot of stain on the elbow. This kind of motion is not generally used to throw a football, although some of the unusual throws by Mahomes could be an example of an exception.
  15. Crunching numbers is a relatively mundane task that they perform okay. When they try to turn those numbers into relevant and insightful assessments of players, they fall short. Selling their data is a far cry from providing actionable roster guidance. They try to sell themselves as having that expertise but they really don't have it.
  16. Just another PFF drop in an attempt to be relevant. I'm not sure why any of us continue to take the bait.
  17. The entire sequence of the 13 seconds would not have occurred if the kickoff was short of the end zone. Anyone watching the game with even a novice's knowledge of football strategy knew the smart play was to kick the ball inside the 20 yard line and short of the end zone. A bouncing ball to the 10 yard line would have been perfect. This initial mistake is what allowed the other circumstances a chance to exist. Even though Farwell was the coordinator, the players should have known what needed to be done. There were enough veterans on the field that someone should have understood the game situation and have been talking to Bass. Just like teams have a two minute offence and prevent defense plans for the end of games, you would expect a professional football team to have end of game special teams strategies. The fact that they either didn't or didn't execute them reflects poorly on Farwell.
  18. Ah....now we have balance in the force
  19. Every dollar paid to any player in any form eventually gets applied to the cap. Teams push money into the future to take advantage of the annual growth of league revenue. Owners with money can afford to make the necessary escrow deposits for bonuses and salary guarantees. This all works as long as revenues continue grow, teams don't spend faster than the cap grows, and teams don't pay problem players (like Dareus) that lead to major dead money issues. When players like Hill and AJ Brown are not retained by their teams, it is likely because their new contracts would have caused the team to spend at a rate that exceeded their forecast of available future cap money. Good organizations operate within a structured salary plan. You will see them deviate for short periods if they think that they are very close to winning a championship ( Tamp Bay, and Rams). Eventually, their rate of spending has to be brought back on a sustainable trajectory or they release good players and end up in a "rebuild". Beane has shown great ability to manage the team spending and pull the trigger on the Miller deal when the opportunity was there.
  20. I'd start following a new football team and watch more baseball. The Bills would be dead to me.
  21. Watching that hit never gets old......probably watched it 20 or 30 times. Not as good as Stratton on Keith Lincoln but pretty great. Moats on Favre is pretty good also.
  22. It may be his 150+ IQ that helped him perform in the league more than any physical ability that he had. It also didn't hurt that he was tough as nails. He always kept the games interesting, for better or worse. It was hard not to like the guy.
  23. He shouldn't get too attached to the cash from his guaranteed contract. When the civil cases are concluded, he may be really light in the old wallet. Juries will be hard pressed to completely disregard 20 plus claims against him.
