  1. Actually, the actions of the owner (Ross) in Miami have probably hurt their ability to attract a great candidate pool. He has influenced the team to make questionable draft picks, turned over the coaching staff too often, and has been a general distraction to the people trying to run the team. He ranks with Snyder and Davis for being one of the worst owners in the league. Good candidates will try to avoid the chaos.
  2. I'm guessing that Ken Dorsey would be the most likely replacement. If he isn't, the Bills will lose him too. The transition to Dorsey would be an easy one.
  3. Since the league started scheduling team bye weeks following their international games, it isn't as bad for the teams. It isn't ideal but it isn't as horrible as it used to be. For fans, it is a great trip (in the UK) and a good time. Seeing pubs full of Bills fans and hanging out was a lot of fun. If they play in the UK again, I'll be there (Covid permitting).
  4. With color commentators, less is more. Some of them talk too much and wander off into minutia and are actually a distraction when watching the game. Having lived in different parts of the country, I've listened to a number of local radio color commentators who were beyond terrible. A couple of them were Ron Wolfley (Cards) and Wil Wolford (Colts). After listening to them, I appreciated the national media guys a little more. Many of them are trying to find the right balance of contribution to keep new/less knowledgeable fans engaged without annoying knowledgeable fans. Sadly, most of them provide too much distraction.
  5. Beane can always use more bullets for the gun. If he really believes that many drafted players have no chance to make the team, he can work to move up in the draft and get fewer but higher quality players. It's too early to tell where the roster openings will be and much too early for the fan base to worry about it. I trust that Beane will orchestrate this to a good outcome.
  6. Contract cost would require some difficult and unwise roster decisions. CMC is a great player but the injury history isn't worth it. There are always some good RB values in the draft. I can't picture Beane blowing up the his cap planning to acquire CMC.
  7. As much as Kiper can be an irritating personality, he seems to be correct more than most of his contemporaries. Fans get obsessed with certain players before the draft and when Kiper craps on their parade, they discount everything he says. Many times a good player evaluation can be spot on and fail to materialize because they end up in a bad team situation. Josh Allen has all the tools and he landed in a good team environment with great coaching support. To Allen's credit, he is working very hard to make the most out of his opportunity. As a result, it's a great time to be a Bills fan.
  8. Everything you said is spot on. There has never been the final week of a season when so many games had playoff implications. All of the additional league revenue and player salaries paid, is a driving force for all of the changes. Money will drive future changes as well. Things like an 18th game, expansion teams in North America, and expansion into Europe may all happen, if they drive enough revenue to influence the owners. Fan reaction will always be mixed on any changes like these and we always seem to get over it and keep following our favorite team.
  9. You may be correct but Lamar's early career win/loss record may skew the story a bit. Baltimore won't let Lamar walk but at some time down the road they may bring in someone to compete for the starting job. Baker has not been consistent enough. They may be forced to hang with him until they can acquire enough draft capital to get another guy. Since there is a lack of good QB candidates in the 2022 draft class, they may have to structure their plans for the 2023 draft. If we see Cleveland moving back in the draft and accumulating picks for 2023, we should know that they are done with Baker.
  10. I think the shoulder was his attempt to draw a flag for being thrown down after the whistle. It was theatrics but the groin appeared to be something like a muscle strain.
  11. A small amount of wind, a little cold weather and an average arm gives you the kind of results that the Cheatriots saw yesterday. He lasted until the 15th pick for a reason. He is a smart kid and it is hard to dislike him but I doubt that he will ever be a top tier QB in the league.
  12. There are a lot of things he could do to feel alive that don't involve cumulative head trauma. He is clearly free to make his own choices and is doing so. Hopefully it works out for him but the long term odds are not in his favor.
  13. Unfortunately, he has taken more head shots that 100 average 76 year olds. Looking at the league's history in regard to cumulative head trauma, Frank is pushing his luck beyond any point of reason.
  14. I admire Frank Gore but it may be time to give the old body a break and enjoy being a multi-millionaire. He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. We all know he is tough as nails and has the heart of a champion.
  15. Most teams do video some portions of practice. Maybe they have a video record or other witnesses. In any event, having him gone is good for all of the players in Jacksonville.
  16. With the advent of widespread sports betting on NFL games, we shouldn't be naive enough to believe that this hasn't influenced play or officiating. High profile teams and high profile games often create a lot of betting volume. TB and Bills was probably one of those kinds of games.
  17. You're exactly right. I just wonder when the Duke Williams contingent begins to resurface in this forum...lol
  18. This is a smart move by Houston. They know a lot about Tyrod's play and know that he is not the long term answer for them. They need to see more of Mills to determine whether he can develop into an NFL starter. If things work out with Mills, Tyrod could remain there as the backup. If Mills isn't the answer, he could become the backup behind a 2022 draft pick. If Tyrod does move on, he won't be out of work for long. He's better than most backups in the league and is known to be a great teammate. Tyrod is having a good career and has made more money than he will need for the rest of his life. I wish him well but not in Buffalo.
  19. I understand why teams passed on Fournette. He was viewed as a malcontent and had issues getting along with teammates. Jacksonville sat him because of a lack of preparation and game day effort. I give him credit for turning things around but I don't fault the Bills for passing on him.
  20. Great recap! You nailed it. Thanks for taking the time to do this. It's much appreciated.
  21. There are reasons that Breida couldn't hang on in SF and Miami. His inability to remain healthy and occasional ball security problems sent him down the road to Orchard Park. What I saw from him yesterday, was him getting open as the DB dropped coverage on a busted play. I also saw him score on a well blocked play where he showed good acceleration. Unfortunately, I also saw him cough up the ball and kill a promising drive. I also saw him go down on first contact. He'll never be a high volume back but he can be of some limited value as a real change of pace. As to the other four points: AJ was great and has been whenever he is called on. Davis is under utilized and will prove his value if one of the main three misses some time. d-line rotation all looked pretty good. Some guys played the run better than others but overall I don't have a concern. I agree that the punter is a weakness.
  22. Many of the moves not made are the best moves. Spending excessive cap money and draft picks on one year rentals and past their prime veterans is a mistake that lesser GM's make. Our guy Beane doesn't make those crazy moves. He also avoids adding head cases to roster even if they are talented players. His approach should provide a stable, competitive roster for years to come. This is the road map followed by a small number of teams and it puzzles me that more teams don't follow the same plan.
  23. A healthy Rams team would be the toughest match up. An injury or two and they are in trouble. They have one of the shallowest roster in the league. After the Rams, the Cardinals have a fairly complete team and score a lot of points.
