Singletary finishes with EIGHT rushing attempts
ngbills replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And every team in the league against any team with a QB worse than Allen. Now what does that say? Either Allen is awful or every team should be able to shut down nearly every other team in the league. No. Allen is not playing great but also not the worst QB in the league. However our OC is awful and has no idea how to adjust or use his players skillsets. -

Please please please. Stop with the you cant run when the defense stacks the box. That is such a horrible excuse. SO many ways to attack this. Its ridiculous. Lucky for Adrian Peterson nobody thought of stacking the box or he would never even sniffed a 2K yard season. You can run it at them at anyway. You can use formations that remove guys from the box. You can use motion. You can add more blockers to the box. You can design runs away from the extra defender. You can call the correct pass plays. On and on and on. -
[Name Only Title] Leslie frazer

Some legitimacy to this thread. Though I think he has earned the right to have a we are always looking for ways to get better type of response. This D can be better by getting more turnovers and getting to the QB. But this is still a pretty good defense and not the primary concern. -

I know this has been talked about in general terms. But wanted to look at Devin Singletary vs Browns in closer detail. I find it absurd that he was not used more. I find it more absurd given how he performed the week prior. It is maddening to hear the logic and excuses from this coaching staff as to why he was not used more. I am losing any trust in them more each day. All of his runs below. He had 1 carry the entire 1st quarter and it went for 4 yards. Granted Bills only had two drives and both short ones. Maybe he is given rock that is different. He had 2 carries in the second quarter. One went for 9 and the other for 8. Not able to run the ball? He had 5 carries in the 3rd quarter. This included a 10, 6 and 4 yd plus two for 1 and 0. Again, not bad for not being able to run. But 5 carries over 3 drives in a close game in the 3rd quarter and this was his heaviest workload? Zero carries in the 4th quarter. Bills have 3 possessions and he gets zero carries with Bills down 3 in all of these drives and plenty of clock. Even the last drive you have almost two minutes in prevent defense mode. Then we get the lame excuses. The box was stacked. We need to continue to evaluate. Blah blah blah. 1 11:19 2 8 CLE 43 Devin Singletary right guard for 4 yards (tackle by Morgan Burnett and Damarious Randall) 2 14:48 1 10 BUF 24 Devin Singletary right guard for 9 yards (tackle by Damarious Randall) 2 12:58 2 10 BUF 48 Devin Singletary left tackle for 8 yards (tackle by Greedy Williams) 3 14:54 1 10 BUF 23 Devin Singletary right tackle for 1 yard (tackle by Larry Ogunjobi) 3 13:32 2 10 BUF 40 Devin Singletary right tackle for 10 yards (tackle by T.J. Carrie) 3 12:58 1 10 BUF 50 Devin Singletary right guard for 4 yards (tackle by Chad Thomas) 3 10:22 1 25 BUF 16 Devin Singletary right guard for 6 yards (tackle by Larry Ogunjobi and Damarious Randall) 3 1:35 2 4 CLE 36 Devin Singletary left guard for no gain (tackle by Sheldon Richardson) -
Barring a drastic turnaround I find it hard to imagine Daboll is back as OC. If he is I suspect we bring in a high level asst head coach type person to take over much of the offensive playbook/game planning. Daboll may be a good coach behind the scenes but he just doesn't get it. He should not be calling plays or even designing plays. He does not seem to understand the flow of the game very well, lets the defense dictate the game, can not play to his players strengths, is inflexible to skill-sets, etc. It is frustrating to watch way too often. I am tired of hearing how they are stacking the box so we cant run. There are tons of ways to handle that without abandoning the run game. This team does not have a good vertical game yet he is insistent on it. He refuses to get Allen outside of the pocket on roll outs. On and on.

Amazing how the National Press Ignores the Bills
ngbills replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lazy... NE beat us and beat the same teams we beat by significantly bigger margins. SF has beat panthers and rams - both 5-3. They are also beating most teams badly. NE scored 20 in 8 games this year. Bills scored 20 in 4 games this year NE scored 30 in 6 games this year Bills scored 30 1 game this year -
In 1993 - Only 2 QB's threw for 3500 yards. In 2018 - 17 threw for 3500 yards...2 threw for over 5000 yards. Yeah lets compare those years stats...
-
Was going to say that those stats were wrong. Thanks for posting the correct ones. Though as many have said you cant compare 30 year old stats. Completely different times.

Amazing roster turnover in the last 2 years

Correct...I was responding to the "the stench is gone" post and guessing it would go down the road of getting rid of trash players. No arguing there has not been a ton of turnover. -

Because we haven't done it yet. When your best win is against a TEN team that has since benched its QB its not going to impress many. All 5 other wins are teams that have won 5 games combined and 3 of those 5 were versus each other... -

Not completely fair way to look at it. Many players went on to contribute elsewhere: Preston Brown Zach Brown R Darby S Gilmore Dareus M Goodwin C Glenn L McCoy S Watkins R Woods Probably even more that are end of roster type guys. -
Let's stop apologizing for having an easy schedule
ngbills replied to longtimebillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If this offense can get from below average to even average we do have a chance. Pats have - @PHI, DAL, @HOU, KC. This is the stretch to watch. They lose a couple of those and we play them at 11-3. If we win the easy ones and can we go 5-1 vs CLE, MIA, DEN, DAL, BAL, PIT? -

It is about honestly assessing your team. You dont have to do that...nothing wrong with saying we are 6-2 and thats all that matters. For me, I prefer to dig deeper and analyze. It would be no different if we were 2-6 but playing well and barely losing to really good teams. I would say we are a better than our record. I would feel better about the next year and going forward. This year at 6-2 there are many things to to like but also many concerns. It does not feel like 6-2 should feel like because our 6 have come against some really bad teams. Put another way if our schedule had flopped and we played: NE, PHI, MIA to start the year and those games when exactly as they did we are 1-2. The same team that was 3-0. If you add on the NE, DAL and BAL games and assume we lose those falling to now 1-5. Are we really that bad? Point is no reason to pretend the schedule does not influence your record. It does in either direction. The games against good teams are generally a better indicator of how good your team is, how good it will do in the playoffs etc. The Bills could go 11-5 this year and have not beat a single playoff team. That is 11-0 vs non playoff teams. -
Why is someone an idiot if they thought the Bills should try to get him? Obviously the guy has talent. You can have an opinion about it and so can someone else. Personally I would have liked to see the Bills add someone at WR. They did not make a trade so I would not have minded Gordon. If I have a lot of options I may choose a different route, but as of now I do not see a Gordon level talent sitting on anyones practice squad.
-
Then you spread the field. Put WR's out there not 3 TE sets. Dont bunch everyone up together. Its really not that challenging. Unless our QB is that bad. Unless we are trying to fool them with this absolute nonsense type of play...
-
The offense can dictate this. The OC job is create the mismatches, the space, etc. In the example you provided - what if the bills send one of the TE wide? Or they send the FB in motion. You have now either removed a defender from the box or you have a guy uncovered. They are not running the ball by choice not because of what the D is doing.
-
What do you expect when you are running double TE, RB, FB? As an offense you can influence how many guys the D puts in the box right? Come on now.
-
SF last night. They had 31 rushes and the QB threw for over 300 yds.

Do you think the Bills are doomed to repeat 2008, 2011?
ngbills replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very true. I dont believe in any notion of teams being doomed. Or this happened ten years ago so of course it will happen again. Reality (at least mine) is that it is great that we are 5-2. Could be worse. But all I know based on this is that we are not one of the bottom 5-10 teams. We have beaten teams that most average teams would beat, and barely done so. If I am forced to put money on it I say we are in that 10-15 range. Strong Defense that can win as long as the O plays average, but will have a tough time beating any good team. -
Never wants to stick with what is working and throw in an occasional wrinkle. Instead it is oh we just run the ball 3 times and gained 5+ yards each time. Lets surprise them and throw 15 straight passes.

Including 13-3 NE, 8-8 NYJ (x2), 8-8 DAL, 9-7 TEN, 8-8 SD, and 8-8 DEN. Also 5 of the 9 games were on the road. So no it was not an easy schedule. Here is what I find funny. You say anything negative about this team and the response from many is that your an idiot this team is 5-2 so be quiet. But when we talk about prior 5-2 teams people can say those teams sucked or Trent Edwards sucked, the coaching sucked, etc. But they were 5-2...does that mean you can be 5-2 and still have a coach that may not be that good or a QB that is struggling? Hmm interesting. -
WGR-550 Dust-up Today: Schopp vs. Capaccio!
ngbills replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How are people denying that point differential means anything? No it is not the 100% rule of how good teams are; nothing is. But generally speaking after 7-8 games it shows a good correlation to how good you are. If NE is crushing teams that we are beating in a dog fight then its likely they are better than us. A one off game may not matter but if you have a decent sample size yes it does. -

2008 - Similarity is they were beating bad teams. They played better teams that year as NYJ, MIA and NE were all solid. 2011 - They just fell apart. Balanced schedule and were beating decent teams until the wheels fell of. This year we are beating bad teams and mostly play bad teams. We would have to be really bad.
