  1. Isnt that kind of where the Bills have been since Kelly? 1997 - 2001 - Rob Johnson / Collins with Flutie / Van Pelt Gave up on Johnson and Collins as future QB's; Flutie as the midtier 2002 - 2004 - Bledsoe / Van Pelt after failed Johnson 2005 - 2007 Losman / Holcomb Losman failed 2007 - 2009 Edwards / Losman / Fitz Edwards failed 2010 -2012 - Fitz after Edwards failed 2013 - 2015 Manuel / Fitz / Orton Manuel failed 2015 - 2017 Taylor after Manuel failed with help from Cassel / C Jones / Peterman 2018 - ? Allen Allen fails? Allen does not fail but dont want to pay big $; Start cycle all over again.
  2. Going to be interesting on here when Josh comes up for free agency. Most likely his numbers will fall well short of what Dak has done to date. No doubt the contracts will keep going up and the $'s for Josh will seem ridiculous. But as Bills fans should know it is very hard to find a solid QB. That is why you cant compare the $ to the ranking of the QB. It is basically if this guy is even a top 15-20 QB in the league he is likely getting top 1-3 QB when when his contract is due. Just how it works. You either pay your above average guy or play the QB shuffle until you hit on another draft pick.
  3. Seriously - who do these people think they are? Questioning a move by an NFL GM and head coach. I remember when people tried to question starting Nathan Peterman. Fools thinking they know so much. Who was laughing after Peterman went on to dominate...wait, oh wrong number, so sorry.
  4. If Allen was a free agent what do you pay him? Some team may be willing to give Allen $30M per...
  5. NFL If you want a better than average starter = two options. 1) Hit on draft pick and pay rookie contract. 2) Pay your draft pick or someone that hits free agency obscene money. Does not matter if that person is Mahomes, Jimmy G or Dak Prescott. Otherwise you rolling the dice with the Fitz, Tyrod or drafting a new QB every 4 years.
  6. I dont love or hate the signing. Its a lets kick the tires on the guy deal like Vontae Davis. What I dont like is: 1. Must be a great deal since McD knows him. That does not mean he is good. 2. We have money to spend so who cares. I care if means we dont sign someone else. For example, Norman + Kroft = $12+M or Norman + Murphy = $16M. For either of those figures you could have a top TE like Hooper or Henry; Top WR; Top De. So do you take a rookie CB + Hooper, Henry, Green, Cooper, Yannick, Clowney or Norman + Kroft or Murphy?
  7. Which is my response to the "I trust McD and Beane, they know Norman". They knew a bunch of the other duds. And Rivera knows Norman as do many other coaches. Well that takes work...
  8. Who can list all of the CAR signings since McBeane have been here?
  9. Players selected in the first 100 picks of last years drafted = 50% were considered primary starters. Players selected after 100 of last years draft = less than 10% were considered primary starters. Before you say its skewed by the very late round picks. Picks 101-150 = less than 15% were primary starters. You hear about the success stories. But no one talks about the other 90%.
  10. This. We do not need more depth. We need elite players that can contribute right away. We are young and not looking for guys to replace starters in a few years at most positions. Not saying you have to trade up but trading down for more picks in the later rounds makes no sense.
  11. Even still - there was a ton of talk about how DK was now a top 10 pick after the combine. Yes, some still questioned him and found reasons to do so. Think the same happens with Claypool after the combine settles out.
  12. Combine may give a guy some hype but folks still fall back on the tape and what they see on the field. Claypool is clearly a good athlete but that is not the only factor. As others have said - DK Metcalf after running a 4.33 was instantly going to be a top 10 pick... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/nfl-combine-d-k-metcalf-blazes-path-to-top-10-of-draft-and-how-wr-te-qb-workouts-affect-first-round/
  13. Bryant from Wash looked the best catching the ball and running routes.
  14. Just some fact checking: Beasley had a good year. But was not too far off his normal production especially if you simply account for time on the field. Plus he has actually had a better year in 2016 - one being playing with a rookie Dak Prescott. Brown also a good year. But he also has played well and similar in most of his career. Other years have been similar and again if account for time on the field it correlates. In 2015 he put up a 1000 yd season with a 36 year old carson palmer. Jones - He led the team in targets with the Bills and still only caught for 600 yds. Not a good example. 940 snaps in one year and 650 in the next. His numbers the first 4 weeks with the Bills were exactly the same as his numbers the rest of the year with the Raiders.
  15. Must admit have not done much homework on the guy other than glance at his stats. Looks like he has a lot of Int's - 5 in 2018. Is he really that bad in pass coverage?
  16. Huh? Confusion. The only games lost in this idea are the NFC vs AFC games. So I asked what big rivalries of NFC vs AFC teams would be lost? I think you have more AFC vs AFC rivalries and under my idea the NFL would actually have those teams play more often.
  17. This smells like a 7-11 win season and either not making the playoffs or losing a wildcard game 17-13.
  18. Ok - who are the Bills rivals? Tell me one NFC rival the Bills have? Tell me any NFC v AFC rivals?
  19. Cross conference rivalries? None come to mind.
  20. What rivalries are you speaking off? The divisional rivalries? I am not aware of any AFC vs NFC rivalries that would be missed. Maybe some big games based on teams being good playing each other but not an ongoing rivalry. But that is what the super bowl would be for.
  21. I can go for this. Similar thinking as my original point. Lets eliminate the ridiculous easy vs hard schedule debate. Why do teams play completely different teams yet are compared to the same standings...makes no sense. As you state this way or my original suggestion would create a legit AFC champ bc all are on a more level playing field in terms of competition.
  22. Assuming you keep the 16 game schedule here is my proposal: Each conference team plays every conference team once. That equals 15 of the 16 games. The 16th game can be multiple formats: 1) Chose prior to the season based on finish the prior year and played vs an NFL team. 2) Flex game played as the last game of the year and can be based on current record. Best record plays worst record - 1 plays 16 down to 8 plays 9. Benefits I see is the removes the SOS aspect and luck of playing certain teams as all teams basically play all the same teams. Think it will help with the week 16 play to make the playoffs scenarios as the bubble teams would be the 4-10 ranked teams and may have more to play for. Super bowl could likely be two teams that have not seen each other. Downside is you lose some of the in division rivalry and tradition. Travel to away games may be less exciting. Thoughts
  23. It is an example of Bills fans know and watch these guys play every week. We read the articles about how they are doing this or that. Reality is there are players like this on every team. They are above average contributors on any just about any team. They will get paid slightly above average from someone. J Phil is the one guy I could see some team overpaying for because they are more desperate.
  24. We need a #1. Either in the draft or FA. Not sure how much adding another contributor does to this offense. I already see Brown and Beasley as contributors. Another contributor could help but I dont feel it is enough. Look at the past 10 years drafts - each draft class really only has maybe 2-3 at most stud WR's and handful of contributor types. With that, if you cant land who you feel is a top 3 WR in this class then you wait to the 3rd or 4th at least and grab one or two of the contributor types (Pittman, GG, or if one of the higher guys (Jefferson, Aiyuk, etc) fall. In the first and second go Edge and OL...
  25. Brian Moorman it is. Seriously - names not said yet: Nate Clements, the good J Byrd...questionables Whitner, A Williams, Poz Moulds is not a drought Bill
