  1. So we're supposed to tar and feather this guy because of a 1 year old screenshot of part of a private text exchange? What if the other person said something about "elite white people" earlier in the message and he was trying to make a joke about it? This isn't even worth an apology IMO.
  2. I do think a lot of people on this board are sleeping on the Jets, but this analysis needs to check their simulations if they really think the Jets have an almost 80% chance of winning the division. I'd put it at Bills 50% Patriots 25% Jets 20% Dolphins 5%
  3. I guess I'm glad Beane has an actual reason for ignoring the comp pick formula, but I find his reasoning to be myopic. Sure, a proven vet backup like Teller probably adds more immediate value to your roster than a comp pick. BUT he costs a lot more in salary, and has no upside. Best case for a player like Teller is that we trade him for a mid/late round pick and eat some dead cap (or we suffer a lot of injuries and we're forced to start him). Whereas a comp pick has a small chance of turning into a star player while on a rookie contract.
  4. 3 years is an extremely short term contract for a 25 year old tackle. I'm curious how this will effect the overall market as most players sign for longer term and more overall money, but a lower AAV.
  5. I'm at a B- Good player at a position of need, but we did pay a premium for him.
  6. Belichek is the best coach in NFL history, and they still have a lot of that great DEF intact. Brady was on the decline last year, no better than about an average QB, and they went 12-4. Depending on who they get to replace him, they are still very much a threat to win the division.
  7. We can use Brandin Cooks as a comparable (both times he was traded) Cooks was actually a better contract:production ratio when he was traded (both times) and he fetched less (both times).
  8. I'm not thrilled with the price. Even if the Hopkins trade didn't happen (where a better WR went for significantly less) we overpaid here.
  9. I get that there's a stigma to trading within the division, but is there really one for trading within the conference?
  10. I don't think it can be over-stated just how bad this trade is for the Texans. David Johnson was an outstanding player.....in 2016. He's currently one of the worst contracts in the league. You get a cap dump + 2nd + swap 4ths. And you give up one of the best WR in the league. A 29 year old on a fair contract that will very likely make the HOF. I'm flabbergasted. How does Beane not offer substantially more than this?
  11. I'll agree with Poyer as best and Lotulelei as worst. Lotulelei isn't a terrible player, but we gave him a pretty large contract that he hasn't come close to earning. HM worst: Vontae Davis. It's embarrassing that he retired at half time of a game. However, the Bills had only given him a 1 year deal, and were able to re-coup almost his entire salary. Charles Clay. Copy paste the Lotulelei comment. Bit of a toss up really which one is worse. Star has 3 years to go on his contract, if he manages to finish that without being cut Clay might pass him as worst.
  12. I think the main idea is to slow down the spread of the virus. If too many people get sick at one time it'll overwhelm healthcare infrastructure, and people that would have lived with treatment end up dying instead.
  13. From https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/2019-rules-changes-and-points-of-emphasis/ BLINDSIDE BLOCK Owners voted to expand protection of defenseless players by eliminating the blindside block. It is now prohibited for a blocker to initiate forcible contact with his head, shoulder or forearm when his path is toward or parallel to his own end line. The penalty for an illegal blindside block is a loss of 15 yards and an automatic first down. So its actually debatable if Ford's play was a penalty or not. I don't think it was because it not was FORCIBLE contact. KICKOFF The ball is dead if it is not touched by the receiving team and touches the ground in the end zone (touchback).
  14. It's tough to not be optimistic about next year. I'll go for 10 wins, even with the more difficult schedule. We're not losing any big pieces (unless Phillips walks), have a ton of cap space, and can add through the draft. If Josh can take another step forward we should be a legitimate playoff threat. Even if he settles in to just be a game manager we could still get to 10 wins next year.
  15. Singletary was an animal tonight breaking tackles left and right. Frank Gore had 1 good run and was trash the rest of the game. He managed to basically kill 2 crucial drives on his own Last drive of the first half: 1st and 10 from the Houston 23 with 30 seconds left and 1 timeout. We run the ball with Gore up the middle for 1 yard and then spike it. 2nd to last drive of second half: 2nd and 10 from Houston 25 with 2:15 remaining. Gore up the middle for -3 yards. Puts us behind on down/distance and Allen gets sacked consecutive plays. The player usage and playcalling is just mind boggling.
  16. I can't believe so many people are trying to rationalize this trade and say it was good (at the time). This is a results based league. It doesn't matter if it was a good trade at the time it happened, you need to grade it based on the results. And the results undeniably show that Kelvin Benjamin was a god awful WR.

  18. We're counting Tyrod's time in Baltimore as a bench warmer as experience I guess? Tyrod has started 46 games in his career. The point is we ran Tyrod out of town for playing QB the way Allen has been playing. Allen has much more potential than Tyrod, but he has to start living up to it at some point.
  19. I always enjoy reading your threads. Some fair and useful analysis. My thoughts 7) PI and the non-challenge - this was pretty clearly DPI, but it was the correct decision to not challenge it. For whatever reason it seems like refs are unwilling to change the call on the field in a PI challenge. Makes me wonder if there was a league wide memo stating that PI reversals should be saved for instances like the NFC Championship game (blatantly obvious AND huge impact to the outcome of the game).
  20. I'll go with a B- Josh was a game manager today and nothing more. No turnovers, but we were lucky the Redskins didn't recover either fumble.
  21. I didn't have much exposure to deadspin. I would read their "Why your team sucks" and get a laugh out of it, and maybe 1-2 articles per month that popped up in my news feed. I never viewed them as a political site, and certainly not a left leaning site. Their articles generally seemed to be humorous and filled with sarcasm (closer to the Onion than actual news). I'm looking at Deadspin's front page and I see one article that touches on political topics (article about a Palestinian soccer team). The article doesn't take any political sides. Am I missing something here? Do you guys have examples of Deadspin being overly political and left wing? Are they legitimately a left-leaning website? Or are the people claiming that the same that think Fox News is fair and balanced?
  22. Let's ignore that 65 yard game changing run that Star got dominated 1v1 on b/c other defenders made mistakes on the play??? Had to jump through a few hoops to make that conclusion huh? Star is the 2nd highest cap hit on the team, and if the best you can say about him is "well, if you ignore these really bad plays that cost us the game, he's normally doing his job by being invisible and eating up blocks" then that's a major problem.
  23. From my seats I saw him throw the flag prior to the snap (it was pretty close, and he picked it back up quickly). Very, very fortunate the refs didn't notice and blow the play dead
  24. Is Star a liability? I don't think so. I think he's a JAG. He's not even remotely close to being worth his contract, but I don't think he's a "bad" player
