  1. Roquan's cost will average out to $20M per for 3 or 4 years of play. I don't see any winking in that. Every big dollar contract cost less in cap hit the first 2 seasons because of guaranteed signing money.
  2. Up to now you are correct. However, he was never in the position before with a number of higher value FAs most likely leaving, not to mention a high dollar one like Edmunds. There could be a change after the season. We shall see. What is weird is that earlier this season his market value was over $14M on Spotrac. Not sure why it dropped so much. I'm thinking Edmunds get over $15M per year on a 4-5 year contract.
  3. I kind of hope Beane and his boys take a look at G/T Andrew Wylie. He played pretty well for KC at G and his Market Value on Spotrac is a reasonable $4.6M. He can play RT if needed. A guy like this could be step one in building a better OL. At 28 he is just entering his prime as an OLineman.
  4. If/when Edmunds signs on another team it will be for big money. I don't see Beane signing any free agent anywhere close to that cost. There will be a lot of ex-Bills on other teams next year. Ergo: I see a 3rd round comp pick for Edmunds in 2024. I know it's not a lot, but it will be something.
  5. Poyer will most likely get a 3-year $30M contract even at his age from some team with a young secondary. He'd be a perfect fit for someone like the Bears. Big city will please the wife and so would the money!
  6. All of them are FAs and are not counted against this year's cap unless they sign new contracts. Bills are $20M over no matter what.
  7. Poyer, Edmunds, Phillips, Singletary and Jackson will all most likely not be in a Bills uniform next season. I can't see more than one of the above re-signed. Matakevich, Saffold, Keenum, Crowder and Klien all likely gone too. I can see Boettger, Martin, Johnson, Dodson getting re-signed. Lawson maybe too. I don't see more than 1 or 2 decent sized (no big money) FAs signed this year. I will have to hope for some decent round comp picks in 2024. Beane is going to need them.
  8. Not getting a long-term contract done last season gave me about a 50/50 shot of him staying. Now I think it's less than that. The cap is real, and it affects both sides. These young men have a lot to consider when it's their one big chance and this is Edmunds's time. What will be, will be.
  9. I took a break from the board for the most part. I do hope that is all he is doing. @YoloinOhiois one of the main reasons I frequent this board. Hope he is back for Free Agency.
  10. I was looking at him as a cheap guy who just may be worth a look. He has been an IR Injury nightmare in his first 3 seasons. He finally had a full season last year. With his history he should go for way less than $5M guaranteed and probably is only a 2 year signing.
  11. I can agree that signing Carr could be a smart move by the Fish, but would it be a smart move from Carr's vantage point? He will be in demand no matter what people think. He is just turning 32 and will want a 3 year $110M-$120M contract. March 13th starts to pre-FA negotiation period and I'm pretty sure Carr will want to sign on a team as the undisputed starter. This gives little time for Miami to figure out what to do with Tua. If Carr was smart, he will go to a team in the AFCS or NFCS.
  12. My hope is that there is a WR out there in a similar position as Juju Smith-Schuster was for KC. SB contender teams get first crack at guys like that. KC stole him this year for $3.76M. I do want an improved WR room, but the OL has to be priority one.
  13. 7 years with the first 4 years being in the neighborhood of $15M averaged per year with year 5 being the transition year is OK with me. Similar to Josh's contract it's fair for both sides and gives Beane the most flexibility.
  14. I'm entrenched in this thought. If Josh has more time and can actually stand in the pocket for longer than a second, he would make mediocre WR good, good WR great, and great WR elite. A better OL helps Josh target his receivers, it also creates a TE who can run more routes and benefits the running game. This approach has to be tried IMO. I will be disappointed in Beane if he doesn't see that this year!
  15. Exactly how I seen it.
  16. Let me say I do agree with some of the moves you stated in your OP. You bring up some good points to free up cap space and I think Beane will do most of them. I will state again that the Von Miller move is very risky. You can deny that, but I will stick with my view. All this "freed up cap space" means these players all have to be replaced. Until I see who and at what price these moves are, talking about how easy 2024 cap situation is going to be is moot. Beane has to field a team in 2023 and 2024. Drafting this year will be critical. Getting some cheaper FAs that perform will also be huge. I will say that when the dust settles at the start of the season this September the 2024 cap situation will look no better (and a good chance worse) than the situation is this year.
  17. Restructuring Von's contract is a risk no matter what anyone says. We will see what Beane thinks about it. If anything, his would be the last to get restructured IMO. The 2024 Salary Cap issue will be a tougher one than this year if all these moves are made.
  18. I have no words that can express my admiration for the Pegula family. I am sad that Kim cannot continue with what no doubt would have been beneficial to all thing in Buffalo sports, not to mention, for the entire NFL. I can only hope she continues to improve for her family's sake and be an inspiration to us all. What Jessie decides to do is totally up to her and I can only take comfort in whatever is in store in the future concerning the teams will be dealt with by some truly amazing people. I can live with that. Go Bills. Go Kim.
  19. I had DirecTV for over 20 years and cut the cord 3 years ago. I understand your reasons for enjoying their service but the reality is that technology is changing and streaming is the future. Advertising and data drive the tech world so we all will have to live with it. My friends and I watch a lot of YouTube, and we are going to chip in to buy the YouTube Premium to get rid of the ads. It is one option for a few bucks a month that DirecTV does not offer. As for huge increases in streaming worries, I believe it will be modest for the simple reason it's easy for any start-up to compete in streaming vs sending up satellites to circle the globe. While I still miss some of the Directv functions one thing I love about streaming is I can pull my Roku stick, grab my remote and take all my TV with me when I travel now that I'm retired. Streaming is still clunky, especially moving between "channels" but I believe that technology will fix some of these issues in the future. All in all, I have been paying way less for TV than I ever have before, and I get a lot more viewing options.
  20. LOL, this QB contract $ talk cracks me up every year. The reality is $40M is the basement for an NFL QB signing on as a starter with a multi-year contract. Dak signed a $40M per year contract at the start of 2021. Carr and Stafford make $40M on older contracts. Let's all remember that Kyler "f'in" Murray signed at $46.1M per year! When Burrows and Herbert sign later this year or the start of 2024 it will be for $55M+. Beane signing Josh Allen to a 6-year contract was brilliant. His cap is $39.7M and that will be restructured some. 2023 will be a bit of an adjustment for the Bills but all the "handwringing" on cap space is a bit overblown.
  21. I'm not sure about another 3 years but I agree he isn't going anywhere this coming season.
  22. Restructuring is a useful "tool" in cap management, but it is not a way of life like some believe. Many are looking as 2023 is a tough year for the cap, but in reality, it's not as bad as 2024. There is risk with restructuring the wrong contracts. I will be watching what Beane does with Von Miller. I am of the opinion that restructuring Von is a mistake. As it is now the Bills can get out of Von's contract at the start of the 2025 season (Von will be 36) for a dead money cost of $7.4M. If Beane does a standard 5 year restructure his Dead Money will go up to around $13M. Will Von's play be worth that coming off an ACL at his age? As it is now, Von's cap hit is $21.2M in 2024. Restructuring will push that up to close to $24M in 2024. What then? Restructure again? https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/von-miller-7717/ Like I say every year, SOME restructuring is OK and quite normal, too much is a problem that I think Beane will not do.
  23. 2025 is realistic IF his contract isn't restructured which would push too much guaranteed money into 2025 and beyond. Just watch during the spring when many on this board will say "restructure Miller" not knowing what that means. At Miller's age and coming back from his injury, restructuring him is a huge gamble that Beane just can't take and would show me he is desperate.
  24. I could live with that. Like I said, this debate will rage all spring.
  25. I'm sure this WR debate will be raging all the way through the draft. I personally believe that even with a better OL and OC scheme the Bills still need 1 improvement in the WR corp. Some will want a 1st round pick at WR but it seems to me it will have to be around the 3rd round pick. Hoping that the draft falls with something like this order. OL, S, WR, OL for the 1st 4 rounds.
