Playoff offense is just as much an issue as defense
pennstate10 replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
I specifically phrased this as: "But how much of Allens success is due to McD leadership and coaching?" Yes, of course, McD isnt coaching Allen's throwing mechanics, and the reciever's route trees. But he is the team LEADER. He sets the tone. He sets practice and meeting parameters, he picks (with input from GM) the coaches. He is the one ultimately responsible for success or failure. Not Allen. If the Bills fail to win an AFC championship over the next 3 years, who gets fired? Allen? Nope, it'll be McD. Because he's the leader responsible for success or failure. -

"McD is a very polarizing HC." I find statement like this to be absolutely stunning. McD is the best Bills coach this century. Full stop. End of story. McD 62-35 (.639); 5 of 6 season in playoffs. All other Bills coaches since 2000 102/169 (.377); 0 of 17 seasons in playoffs. How is this even a debate?? Yes, of course, McD has had Josh Allen. But how much of Allens success is due to McD leadership and coaching? This is, of course, an unknowable question. But realize that Allen has never had a remarkably successful season except as a Buffalo Bill. His record at Wyoming was 16-12. Allen was regarded as a raw talent, and didnt become a superior QB until his Buffalo Bills seasons. How much of his success was due to his own hard work, his QB coaches (including Dorsey btw), his OC, and his HC is impossible to know. But it is inarguable that McD is the best Bills coach of this century. -
I’m just glad it’s not Art Wander and Chuck Dickerson.

Thad Brown the first to be offended by Josh

“Hey Thad, guess what I like about you?” ”Hmm,what?” ”Nothing. Not a f****ing thing. “ -
If you look at this from a purely logical point of view, you cannot say that Allen without McD is a winner in the NFL. There is no evidence for that because it has never happened. Allen hasn’t played a down in the NFL without McD. So any opinion as to whether Allen equates to Bills winning is simply a guess, an opinion not based upon fact. On the other hand, if you ask whether McD can produce a playoff team without Allen, the answer is yes. It happened with a pretty marginal QB who only started a few games after leaving the Bills, and never led a team to the playoffs without McD as a coach. Lookit, I think Allen is a top 3 QB in the NFL, and I’m glad he’s on our team. But I also think McD is far and away the best Bills coach in this century, and a top 3 Bills coach of all time. McD and Beane turned the Bills from a perennial loser to a consistent top 5 team in the NFL. Winning a SuperBowl requires a bit of luck. Ask Jim Kelly. If his kicker truck the ball a couple millimeter s to the left, he’d be a Super Bowl champ. If Levi Wallace had played smarter coverage in the 13 sec, not allowing inside release, Bills might have been Super Bowl winners. If Bills D hadn’t been down 2 of top 3 DL and both safeties then Bills may have won. it’s maddening to listen to folks pretend McD is some average coach. He’s very good.

+1 Excellent analysis. As a long time Bills fan, this all makes perfect sense.

Once and for all,it wasn’t the defense “formation” that lost the 13 second game. it was how the players played. The DB funneled everything to inside releases. Which is fine in a 13 sec drill if the other team has no TO. But Chiefs had TO. The DB needed to play tighter. They had deep cushions. I don’t know why they didn’t play tighter. Was it coaching, talent, misinterpretation of the goals? I don’t know. But the “formation”. — a 3-2-6, was fine. DBs needed to play it tighter.

This was discussed in another thread. Converting salary to bonus can lead to a loss of money for the player. The bonus is taxed at NYS marginal income rates. About 11%. Whereas salary is taxed at the rate of the state where the game is played. So when Bills play in Texas, which has 0% marginal income tax rate, he keeps more money. At least that’s how I think it works.

Your daily Josh Allen is pretty good at football update

This is a really interesting point. When the Bills convert $20M or Josh Allen salary to a bonus, is he really losing money? Because 100% of his bonus is subject to the high 11%, but only 50% of his salary is subject to the 11%. The other 50% gets taxed at rates of the state where game is played, generally less than 11%. CA at 13% the only exception. Have any plates refused a conversion of salary to bonus for this reason ? -
I dont think that you can know that with any degree of confidence. Hundreds of players get hit in the chest similarly hard every weekend during football season. Yet they dont develop commotio cordis (presuming that is what he truly had) and cardiac arrest. Commotio cordis is a "diagnosis of exclusion". Meaning that the docs eliminate all of the possible diagnosis that they can think of, and then say, well, its consistent with commotio cordis. To my mind, it is certainly possibly that commotio cordis has a genetic component, and that some individuals are more susceptible than others. Here are a couple references, in which well-known cardiologists and scientists suggest that there is a genetic predisposition to commotio cordis. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31179551/ https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/full/10.1161/circep.111.962712 https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/circulationaha.110.955336#:~:text=It is likely that genetic,in cardiac depolarization or repolarization. Sure, it could be just bad luck. But for such a rare condition in football players, you have to wonder if there was some unanticipated predisposition. Its a tough call. Football is Damar's livelihood, so the docs dont want to prevent him from returning to his profession. But I'd best my last dollar that when/if the Bills medical staff clears him to return to full contact, the language clearing him doesnt say there is no risk of a recurrence.

It’s not a philosophy, it’s simply physics and physiology. DL is the most tiring position to play. Since the 90s Cowboys introduced the concept of rotating DL, all good NFL teams have done this. You don’t see heavy rotation of LB or DB, but all NFL teams rotate their DL. There are a few exceptions who might play 80-90% of snaps . Aaron Donald and Chris Jones. That’s about all I can come up with right now. But it’s not some “philosophy” unique to McD. It’s smart football.

Serious question. How is it clear that Brady was taking HGH? I know that there can be physical signs of anabolic steroid use, but what is the evidence Brady was using hgh? -

Ohh sorry. The above link was broken. Valid link at NFL Breaking News. -
It’s behind a paywall, but some snippets #1. Joe Buscaglia. Analytic, careful, watches all-22,has good sources. #9. Tony Romo. Insightful but talks a bit too much. Slipped over the past 2 years. #101. 6 yo girl with crayons. Does a good job of staying within the lines. #151. Stephen A Smith. Guys a r..l. Skip that, don’t want to get banned. #199. Ross Tucker. Smart, but just throws out click bait. You might consider him an expert at that. A master baiter. #200. Skip Bayless. See #199.

Washington Commanders may have to change their name again
pennstate10 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
For what its worth, I have cousins who are half Oglala Lakota (Sioux). My uncle married a "full blood" registered tribe member. They didnt stay up nights worrying about the name Redskins, but they didnt like it. -
I’m not sure about that. Rodgers had a torn calf a few years back. Limited his mobility and took a while to heal. wonder if this is the same one

Why does everyone care so much about the name of an arena league team?
