Do You Feel That You Can Speak Honestly About Race Relations
UConn James replied to Irv's topic in Off the Wall Archives
No. And I’m not sure anyone is, really. We’re all working from personal anecdotes / experiences / knowledge. There’s so many stats and stories and such. I don’t even know how to make sense of it or where to begin. All I’ve got in all this is that I just try my best not to be an a—hole and as MLKJr said, judge people on the content of their character... and their actions. Donated blood a couple of weeks ago and someone there and someone was wearing a shirt that said, “We all bleed red.” The first time I started donating, I ran into a teacher from my old high school who said it’s a great act of altruism; you have no idea who’s going to end up needing & receiving your blood, what color their skin is, what they’ve done in their life, but it’s a small individual act where you say Here is part of myself for someone who needs it. Life is such a fragile thing. There’s no time to be so angry as everyone is today about everything. I’m unconvinced that anything can be solved through anger. -
Losing it implies that he, at one point, HAD it. On that point, we cannot accept the premise of the question. ?

https://uni-watch.com/2020/06/08/what-will-the-uni-verse-be-like-when-games-resume/ Cool item from the 1996 presidential campaign when Jack Kemp was the VP nominee. His Secret Service detail created these lapel pins.

NBA looking to resume season July 31st
UConn James replied to Greg S's topic in Off the Wall Archives
What’s their plan for how this will affect a presumptive 2020-1 season? For a league whose season usually ends in early June, this won’t leave much of an off-season. Same for NHL. -
Besides inaccuracy, my biggest beef with weather reports on teevee and in apps is the lack of including a dew point forecast. I hate humid weather and want to know when it will be more comfortable again. There are short-term 7-day forecasts for this... just... they never highlight it. https://weatherstreet.com/states/u-s-dewpoint-temperature-forecast.htm

Yup. If we have to do this for what was mostly a decade of suck, it’s Kyle. End of discussion.

This is a film dear to my heart, same-name-wise. I chalk it up to Andy being over-exuberant about the news/info. He’s been in there 20 years at that point, yes? Iirc, as soon as Tommy tells him about it, Andy leaves his seat and hauls butt to the warden’s office. He just didn’t stop to consider things. ??♂️ It’s just how Stephen King wrote the original story in “Different Seasons” which was a break from his supernatural horror and on to just regular human horror & evil.

??♂️ Gradients have an extremely short shelf-life. They had ONE job, but Nike can’t get out of its own way.

The Mandalorian Season 2 - official trailer [ed title]

There have been some interesting tidbits in what (and, especially, WHO) to expect in S2. https://io9.gizmodo.com/dave-filonis-thoughts-on-the-phantom-menace-are-must-se-1843392914?utm_campaign=io9&utm_content=&utm_medium=SocialMarketing&utm_source=facebook Just saw this article about Dave Filoni doing a soliloquy on the importance of the lightsaber battle in Episode I: TPM in a way that most people probably haven’t thought about before because we were just watching a laser sword fight. The idea of fate in it all. What would have happened if Anakin had apprenticed under Qui-Gon. Hmm. One thing I do know is that if Filoni is not made the Head/President/Executive Producer of Lucasfilm / Disney Star Wars after Kathleen Kennedy’s hopefully shortly-forthcoming retirement.... This guy has great story-telling instincts and has crafted the BEST parts of the franchise since the OG trilogy. -
Booger and Tess not returning for MNF

Joe Tessirore was in my local broadcast area, WFSB the CBS for Hartford, for a long time in one of his early gigs. So there is a bit of goodwill built up for him in my mind, but... I don’t know how to describe it any way other than that he just does not have a football voice. -

I caught the BBC feed of several Wimbledon matches a few years ago w/o commentators and it was AWESOME. Still had the sounds of the players and the ball hitting the grass and the umpire for score, but not someone in your ear telling you what you just saw or what to think about it. Felt more like you were right there, just another spectator. I hope that with the next step of digital broadcasting, ATSC 3.0, which allows more interaction / choices and has started in several markets and due in 60 more maybe by the end of the year/early next because of virus delays, we can be allowed to choose audio commentary feeds... or none. -
The only way to make it workable would be to send video to NY and have the head of officiating in a sealed room, given no context about what the situation or ruling on the field was, and give an overarching verdict of the proper call. The refs and their union HATED this rule and did everything they could to give a big middle finger to the competition committee and the fans. They want to have that control to change the course of a game with a single call, and in my heart of hearts, I believe the league gives them direction to favor some teams / players, and to keep games close so teevee ratings stay high.

BJ’s character progression was a bit weird, coming in as a fresh-faced, clean-cut, optimistic replacement for Trapper. He transitions to a guy with too similar qualities to Hawkeye... only with a nuclear family back home including the trope of a daughter he’s never seen and frustrations resulting.

You take that back!!! Allison Janet is a national treasure. Except for the feature episode on TWW when she goes back to Dayton, OH, for her class reunion with her speech supposed to be titled “The Promise of a Generation” (take a drink every time that’s said in the ep). I really chalk that up to really bad writing. —— I would say that mine is the blonde one from Desperate Housewives. I watched the first season. I hated the character and I really loathe the actress (who has recently been involved in the college admissions scandals). Everything I’ve seen her in, I hate her character as she just plays controlling, manipulative, snarky b————.

If you’re looking for a licensed one, the Nike Game version is a heat-pressed vinyl/silicone, at ~$99. The Limited is a standard cut jersey with sewn twill name & numbers at ~$175. The Elite is a game cut jersey (close, although still not what the players wear on the field) with sewn name & numbers at ~$300. You can try other sites and knock-offs at your own risk wrt quality, ethics of copyright law, etc. I actually messaged a company out of Colorado yesterday about ordering a set of twill names / numbers for a Kelly-era jersey whose numbers have started to peel off. Can then have a seamstress see them on. I don’t know if they’re still in business, or if they’re currently furloughed, or what. https://www.propatchesusa.com/#b

A few days ago, I filled out the fields on the OP site and then it said that I would need to respond to an email in order to finish the process. I never got the email, even checked in the junk folder. Is this a case of their system being overwhelmed and they will send one anyway, or do I fill it out again? -

Paul Lucas’s Uni Watch page today reported (and provided photo proof of some Pats* players wearing the new unis at their homes) that the pants stripes ARE in line with the widths shown on the shoulder, and not an extra-wide white which would have been virtually a match for the Texans’ pants. My question is why do a Uni reveal with a design that isn’t correct? Total SNAFU. Even if it were a case of the lockdown complicating things, they couldn’t have a guy in their marketing department photoshop them with a correct version? Bush league. TB did this for their reveal when Godwin gave his #12 to Brady; they ‘shopped him into his new #14. It’s not that difficult. Still pretty disappointing that there seem to be no plans for a silver or white pant set, per their entry in the NFL Style Guide.

I’ve helped or done a garden for 30+ years, starting in my single digits. Still a bit early here in NE CT; there was a frost warning tonight, actually. It used to be Mother’s Day / mid-May to plant, but that’s crept earlier in the past 10-15 years. Hoping the place I go to for tomato and pepper seedlings (and often a pack of butter / Boston lettuce to start things off with me growing from seeds later on) is still open in a couple of weeks. Other things I just start from direct sow in the garden because seed-starting has never really worked for me ??♂️. Need to get the 1980-bought Troy-Bilt tiller running; thing is a beast yet easy to operate. That’s when they made things to last and to get the job done.

+ 1. Got rid of the silver and navy shoulder blobs and side panels. To be honest, I liked the red side piping on the previous home (navy) set where it blended into the navy, but not at the expense of panels+piping on the away (white) set. - 1. The away’s red-blue-red makes logical sense given the home red-white-red... but it just looks off and might work better as blue-red-blue. 2. No teevee numbers on the shoulders or sleeves. Thought this was against the NFL rulebook concerning unis. The Browns wanted to go teevee numberless on their plain brown alts, but the league forced them to add them. Guess the Pats* get excepted from the rules, as ever. May make it a tiny bit harder on refs to identify player numbers for penalties and for viewers to see who’s who in scrums. 3. Not a fan of only having the unitard look. 4. Inconsistent stripe widths on the pants. Should be the same as what’s on the shoulders, not the same width as the red but a MUCH wider white stripe. 5. Besides the helmet, they VERY closely resemble the Texans in overall gestalt (and almost exactly on the pants).

Browns to introduce new uniforms at 12:00 pm

Getting rid of any chest wordmark at all gets a big ?? from me. I do not understand this trend for the NFL, especially writ large like the Jets and now ATL. The NFL is the king of sports. Act like that. Not like you’re some D-II school where no one can even remember the name / location. Solid reversion to the classic. The encroaching sleeve stripes were awful. I don’t understand the blank Color Rash alts, but... whatever.
