Pac 12 network’s Path to the Pros: Harrison Phillips
berg1029 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Led the team in tackles from NT? What? Did Stanford have him play differently than most NT? I'm guessing he was given more freedom to make plays in their defense. Did this affect how effectively they were able to stop the run? -
I hope Allen starts, because it would mean he outplayed a pretty good QB in McCaron. However, I think he will be slower to come along than that. My bet is on AJ to start the season edit: I answered this question as though you were talking QB, which wasn't specified in the OP. it's more confusing b/c of the lesean mccoy option in the poll

I don't know whether to be excited or depressed about this pick. Quite honestly, I would have been more happy with any of the other top QB prospects. His potential is off the charts, but in order to realize that potential.. it's going to be an uphill battle. Hopefully we have the right people in place to be able to get JA to where he ought to be based on his physical attributes. I'm not convinced that we do have the right support staff in place (yet)

Show Me Your Allegiance! Trade Up or Stay Put POLL
berg1029 replied to thunderingsquid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trade up, but don't go up to 2. Price is too steep. -
Yay! We're not the worst! (According to Agents)
berg1029 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Regarding the collective bargaining agreement... Worst thing: 1. Rookie wage scale" Of course the agents think that They drove up the price on those rookie contracts for years until it got out of hand and something like this needed to be instituted. The only people you have to blame for that is yourselves, agents! -

Tyrod named starting QB of Browns
berg1029 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod is such a class act, I really hope they get some wins with him (so long as they're not playing the Bills). It's hard not to root for the guy. I want to dislike him so much b/c he is a pretty bad QB, but I just can't bring myself to do it. -
I understand the necessity of it, if they plan on moving up (which appears likely). With that being said, the trade was a case of selling low. The guy had been injured for a long time, but was a capable franchise LT. Last time we traded one of those, we got a first round pick and a fourth round pick (Jason Peters). And the Peters deal was a good deal for the Eagles, as in the Bills probably should've gotten more than they got.

Oh yeah for sure. I think it serves as a good first approximation though. The numbers are nice and even

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/draft/draft_trade_value.htm 1200 + ~800 =2000 which is somewhere between the third and fourth picks Also, taking the difference between 12 and 21... 1200-800=400 which is about a middle of the second value for Cordy Glenn

Was The Tyrod Taylor Era a Success?
berg1029 replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I think of an era in sports, I think about wins and losses (think macroscopic scale vs. microscopic scale). Not how the team improved etc. The Jim Kelly era was great because we won a lot. The EJ Manuel, Ryan Fitzpatrick, or -insert other failed Bills QB- era was not successful because we were... mediocre. When people look back at the Tyrod era, they won't remember improvements in the front office that helped our financial situation. People will remember .500 football, they will not remember a couple of slight improvements in the future outlook of the team. -
Was The Tyrod Taylor Era a Success?

I understand what you and a lot of other people are saying. But I think where we are having a difference of opinion is over who is due to credit for our present financial situation (and draft capital situation). The change of GM from Whaley to Bean is, imo, more deserving of credit than saving a couple bucks by having Tyrod as our QB. Yes, his contract was reasonable, so it did play in to it. But more of the reason why we're in a better financial spot is because we have a GM that isn't spend happy anymore. It has next to nothing to do with Tyrod. Our current financial situation is a result of Bean. The only thing that Tyrod presided over was mediocre football results. -
Was The Tyrod Taylor Era a Success?
berg1029 replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lol, I realize they didn't stay with him. But was 3 years of him really necessary? Was there ever a point in those last 2 years where you said to yourself "the Bills have a shot to win the superbowl this year"? It was 3 years of expected failure (except maybe the first). The whole time we were just treading water, man. -

I just don't understand how you can take several years of 0.500 football as being a success. It's like you said.. you don't just go from bottom dweller to super bowl champion overnight. But you also don't go from bottom dweller to superbowl champion by staying the course with a mediocre quarterback. What's the point? Teams that do become successful are usually teams that find success after a change in the quarterback position. We knew Tyrod wasn't the answer, why suffer through an entire era of mediocrity? Make a change at QB and bottom out due to poor play or make a change and have it work out. Either way, at least you're doing something then instead of just treading water -
Was The Tyrod Taylor Era a Success?
berg1029 replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For me, no. It was not a success. We were no better than we were during any of the years in the drought. We were just as mediocre as before: not bad enough to get a good draft pick but not good to have a realistic shot at the superbowl. The definition of mediocrity. -
A high third (first pick of third round, if I'm not mistaken) is a lot to give up for someone that you are just auditioning, unless you are entertaining serious hopes that they can be the man
-
I hope the guy has all the success in the world in Cleveland. I hope the Browns turn it around with him at the helm. Wish the city of Cleveland/the Browns all the success in the world, so long as they are not playing the Bills! Go Bills!

Frankly Speaking : Why Not Try Something New?
berg1029 replied to BadLandsMeanie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It kind of sounds like you're advocating for someone in the "Cam Newton" or even "Daunte Culpepper" type of mold. Sturdy enough to not constantly get injured when running and still okay passing in the short to intermediate range. That's a tough skill set to come by.
