QBs can develop while getting smashed
thenorthremembers replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Below is a chart of listing a subset of 1st round QBs first two years in the league, and the amount of times they were sacked in their so called "developmental years" (2004-2013.) I also included David Carr because he has become the poster boy for the argument "Quarterbacks who get hit a lot dont succeed." Note, I did not include quarterbacks drafted since 2014 as I think it's too early to say they were a success or not. I have always been of the mind that QBs don't necessarily "develop" just get somewhat better from their baseline coming out of college. Personally feel like the good ones were already destined to be good the second they stepped on the field, regardless of how many times they got hit, unless said hit ended their career completely. My opinion, but outside of shows like E:60 I think ESPN's network schedule of two to three guys yelling at one another is dribble. You dont have massive layoffs by being the best at what you do. -

Ryan Kalil already announced he will be retiring at the end of the season. -
Believe what you want my friend. He had one winning season out of the six he coached before Brady became the starter in New England. That includes his first year with New England when he was 5-11. Not sure what the Matt Cassell was in reference to, Bill's first superbowl win was in 2001, Cassell wasnt in the league until 2005. If you're talking about the year Brady was out for the season, I'll give you that, and change my tune to "Belichick had 2 winning seasons in his 7 without Brady."

Scott Van Pelt on ESPN

Did anyone on this board seriously expect them to be good? -
You really can't say much, I hear you there. I am still fine with McDermott and Beane, but that's because I knew this year was 100% about Allen. It is a little concerning they didn't do more in the off season to address QB beyond 5 total starts but its hindsight now. Mainly, I am just trying to look at McBeane with the longview but that includes a pretty troubling commitment to Peterman, who if I am being honest, a lot of regular Joe's on TBD knew wouldnt play well in the regular season despite a strong preseason.

I wasn't specifically referring to Moore. Was more of an advocate for them signing Bradford. However, I did watch a QB go 5-18 for 24 yards and 2 picks yesterday, so I would argue even Matt Moore would be an on the field upgrade. They weren't prepared to start Allen and they weren't prepared to support the ability not to start him. Thats hubris.

Is it time for Kaepernick?

Quarterbacks Id sign before Kap Mark Sanchez, Derek Anderson, Matt Moore, Landry Jones, and Sonny Jurgenson. -
I don't disagree with you. They needed to go all out to get a guy. However, the point was about the blow outs. They get blown out because they lack talent in important areas of the field. They stunk at Qb and DE last year. They stink at QB (until/unless Allen develops,) and DE this year. How anyone looked at the roster and didn't think they'd be in the running for the 1st pick is beyond me. It's as easy as looking at the qb situation and Buffalo's was clearly three or four worst. They needed to sign a veteran with real game experience and didnt.

Not rocket science. They are unbelievably bad at the two most important things in football, Quarterback and hitting the opposing Quarterback. McBeane can overcomplicate things as much as they want, call it a process, talk about hard work and culture, but until they draft a beast Defensive End or a player who plays somewhat like a NFL Qb they are going to get blown out. For a coach who relies so much on pressure from his front four, you'd think he'd be a little bit more interested in gifted athletic defensive lineman and less in "high motors"

Van Pelt is kind of an expert on worst in the league type of things. The company he works for is the worst in their league, and the show he hosts is abysmal. Glass house there Scott. -
Every Josh Allen Throw Vs. Ravens

Its really kind of amazing how bad the line is. You need a LG, C, RG, and RT. At least at Wr you have potential. Line is a complete and utter mess. -

Not a lot of help in free agency. The giant sloth we currently have on our team may be the best option. -
2018 Nathan Peterman = 2013 Jeff Tuel
thenorthremembers replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was actually thinking about Jeff Tuel cooking dinner after the game today. I thought, holy hell Peterman is actually worse than Jeff Tuel. And Tuel ended up on a practice squad after he left here. Peterman probably wont make a team after he leaves Buffalo. -

Drops all over the place. I am not sure how they'll draft an entire wideout corps next year, but they will need to. -
You gotta trade McCoy now... right?
thenorthremembers replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you can get a pick for him sure. What's a little more dead cap and a little less talent. -
Which is why Belichick's win percentage as a head coach hovered around .450 before Brady. No super bowl wins without him.
-
Great Quarterbacks make great coaches, and teams. If Allen or Peterman turns out to be great, McDermott will look like a genius. If neither does, then he will be a defensive coordinator sometime between 2021 and 2022.

For some reason I've always wanted to like Sullivan. But his post BN career has shown how crazy self important he is. There was a day when someone hired him fresh out of college and now he would deny someone the same chance? Somehow this guy got it on his head he is F. Scott Fitzgerald and people are privileged to read his writing. Bottom line, when he left someone else took his place. Just like any average Joe. I learned a long time ago, if you constantly find yourself at odds with people, it's probably not them.

This is pretty cool! Allen shirts!

Better than the knock off Bills gear Tops sells every year. -
Hope this guy plays well this year because he has the makings of a future captain for this team.
