If Allen looks terrible and the team implodes? Probably. If Buffalo makes the playoffs and beats out NE for the AFCE he is also coach of the year.

Receiver competition with two games left
Mat68 replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Imo they are playing and designing plays for players on the bubble. Wr is coming down to these couple of questions. 1. Can Roberts contribute as a regular wr? If yes, then it's a real possibility Buffalo keeps 5 wrs opening day. Brown, Beasley, Jones, Foster, and Roberts. Than it's on one of the other players to make some plays to warrant the spot. Right now I think they are fine keeping 5. 2. Do you want to keep a back up return man on the roster at all times? If you do, McKenzie is the next best punt returner behind Roberts. This is not a necessity. Hyde can field punts, and Singeltary could return kicks. 3. Has any wr outside the top 5 earned a roster spot? I think McKenzie and Williams have both helped themselves the most thus far. Williams brings a different dimension to the team. McKenzie fits in to what they already do and can spell multiple positions on offense. I dont think either has stamped their place on the 53 man roster. -
I think the wait might actually be over.

They have everything in place to be very good. I think a playoff run is real. The defense will be nasty. They dont play but a handful of top qbs. The defense has stymied alot of good offenses the last few years. -
What do you do if you are Cowboys GM?
Mat68 replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a pretty good strategy. I think you can get creative with Zeke. 4 year 80 mil ext 40 guaranteed. Spread 35 over the next 2 years. Most likely trade him in 2 years. Basically a 2 year 40 mil deal for his prime than sell high. They have no choice but to sign Dak. But again front load it. If you need to move on you can by trading Zeke and drafting a guy high. -
Also, they play 5 games vs top QBs. 2 Brady, Baker, Wentz, and Big Ben. The Bils defense is pretty gnarly, and gives even the best QBs fits. If the offense plays like an improved version of the the last 5 games they will win alot of games and surprise alot of people.

Beside the Cheifs offense being very good, the AFC is wide open. If Allen develops into a top 15 Qb Buffalo could win the division. The Steelers will be solid but less explosive. NE is NE but without anyone outside that is a tough matchup. Without Gronk that offense is manageable. McDermott has a pretty good record of giving them fits. If the Bill's reach their potential they are contenders.

Who could we realistically trade Zay or Shady for?
Mat68 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Zay is a fairly cheap player. Going into his third, in an offense that he certainly wont be focal point all bolds well for him. I think at seasons end his numbers will be pretty good. I expect a few really good games with multiple Tds and in totality may even end the season with the best numbers in terms of yards and Tds. -
Receiver competition with two games left

Its preseason. I expect them to continue to utilize the vertical passing attack that was implemented last year. Brown and Foster will be huge peices of the offense. To me Daboll is just running basic concepts that NE has used for years. Working Beasley and the backs underneath to work Allen's consistency on those routes. I still think Zay will be a part of the offense. You cant read too much into preseason. They want to see imo if Roberts can be a legitimate Wr in rotation. Those reps come from someone. They are seeing if he can be the 5th Wr if not I expect them to keep 6 wrs. For the running backs, the last 2 games will be crucial. Yeldon has looked pretty good barring that fumble. Beane likes Gore way too much to bring him in just to cut him. I dont expect anyone trading for Shady worth anything. An expensive 30 yr old RB coming off the worst year of his career is bringing anything more than a late rd conditional pick. The wild card is still Wade. He made the 2 best plays of the Bill's preseason thus far. The whole mantra McDermott spouts that spots are earned in games, no one has made the most of their opportunities then Wade. I think Wade earned the reps after Singletary. Give him a larger role in preseason game 3. See what he does vs better competition. -
Can Christian Wade be the 53 man roster this year
Mat68 replied to FLBillsGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why does he have to start? If its Mccloud, Perry, Yeldon, Williams, or McKenzie I think Wade is a legitimate conversation. He may have to play teams but those are areas the rules can be explained. On offense he only needs to know 10 to 20 plays. Have some gadgets plays to get him in space. Buffalo needs as many playmakers as they can. He has flashed. I think he makes plays no matter who is out there. Maybe not 60 and 40 yards but 20 plus are still explosive plays. Add in his spark plug ability for the team and I think its worth pondering. -

Mat68 replied to FLBillsGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it's so easy, why dont the other backs on the roster and around the league make similar plays? There is something to him. He isnt a major project in my eyes, he is a guy you put in space and let him run to open grass. I'm not asking him to pick up a blitz on third down, I'm throwing him a designed swing pass with a lead blocker, jet sweeps, or screens. -

Imo, based off his limited use they wanted to sneak him on P.S. After those 2 plays on what 3 or 4 touches that is going to be highly unlikely. Imo Wade has earned more reps and with the second team offense. If he continues to make plays you find a spot. I dont care what the perception of him is. He has the 2 biggest plays of the preseason on limited touches. Lets see if he continues to make plays vs better defenders. -

You cant teach his vision. I know its second half of a preseason game, but at the same time no one else on the team is making those plays in similar situations. You find a way to get him on the 53 and create a handful of plays to get him in space. -
Johnson looks like a NFL pass rusher. Idc where he was drafted or went to school. There is 0 chance he passes waivers to p.s just based off of the first 2 weeks.
-
Every practice its Jon Brown, Jon Brown, Jon Brown, Jon Brown. When they line up Brown, Beasley and Foster first snap week 1. Oh my. 2 deep and Beasley cooking guys underneath. The offense will be stupid.
-
Jadeveon Clowney accounted for at least half of Watts sacks. QBs were literally running into Watt trying to get away from Clowney.
-
Draft picks withstanding. The Watkins/Darby, Benjamin and Darues all happened than reported. The slow leak and tea leaf reading never ends in a deal being made. It's a wave of retweets of nonsense to increase random Twitter warriors profiles.
-
Since Beane and McDermott been in town there is very little leaks. If they make a move they do it. It comes out of nowhere.
-
These obscure sources never hit. It's the kiss of death.

Dak Prescott seeking new extension worth $40M per year.
Mat68 replied to BillsFan4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem those QBs above have is they are on their 2nd or 3rd contracts. Rodgers is lauded as the best passer of this generation. Even his greatness could not overcome bad drafts and stale coaching. If you have a franchise Qb you pay them. When you do that other parts of your team atrophy due to lack of resources. Paying a guy for 3 to 4 plus years Franchise money when he is not a top 5 or 10 Qb places you in NFL purgatory. You wont be bad but you are not winning a superbowl either. Basically, does Dallas pay Dak then chose Zeke or Cooper? Jaylon Smith or Byron Jones. Once you pay Dak the quality of the Dallas roster slowly goes down. Is Dak good enough to win without a loaded defense and elite running game? Many think not nearly as much. Draft a guy after the season, sell Dak to the highest bidder. Double down on the roster quality. With the picks from Dak or use Dak in a package to move into position to draft a highly heralded Qb in the draft. -
This is a question of where the front office feels the team is at. I think you push the chips in on the table and transform the defensive front 7 from good to great. I would go so far to offer a 1 for Clowney. I'm very high on him as a player. Buffalo has good players in the front 7. Only Oliver shows the quality to f a play up and that's nothing more than potential, Clowney does it routinely. If Buffalo added Clowney I would put money on Hughes being top 5 in the league in sacks maybe even leading league.
-
I dont see him as inaccurate. You dont hit the windows and throws Allen routinely makes if you are an inaccurate/flawed passer. Leading the league in air yards per attempt by a wide margin is more to do with his completion % than the inability to hit a check down or an out route. Completion % is less important if he gets 40, 50, 60 yard pass plays. If he doesnt have those and his completion % is still low you may be onto something.
-
Send them a second and Connor McDermott. They can draft the OT next year.
-
Not looking at the contract, not knowing the financial ramifications. Trent Murphy. Lawson on run downs and I want to see the Johnson kid on passing downs. Hughes, Lawson, Johnson and Love if you keep 4.
-
From games to practice, to Preseason to offseason, the covering of Allen as a whole is confirmation biased reporting. To some Allen's career and lineal in terms of development. No matter what, he is inaccurate. With the addition of Beasley and Singletary his % is going to increase. Having guys who can get open under 10 yards was and is something Allen has never had before. The major take aways from the practice are Allen's and Beasley's continued chemistry and Allen's interaction with Kuechly. He is the best and most instinctual LBs in the NFL. Him giving Allen the time, and Allen having the foresight to get his ear is a good sign.
