  1. Kyle may retire after this season, creating an immediate need on the D-line. Even if he stays another year, we'll need a replacement soon. Also, we have a ton of picks. They could grab a DL and trade up for some offensive talent if there's someone there they really like. He doesn't like the hotels in Buffalo.
  2. Understood. I was only pointing out that it's not fair to compare any NFL owner to Steinbrenner, since the NFL and MLB have different rules that affect rosters.
  3. Yes, but there's still a cap. Steinbrenner outspent the other owners.
  4. George had deep pockets (party due to a much larger market) and no salary cap.
  5. ? Back in '95 when the Browns made their moving announcement, my wife, who at the time knew very little about football, asked, "Why would another city want the Browns?"
  6. Because there's a big shark population in the Niagara river?
  7. I don't think the NFL wants small markets. The Bills are still in Buffalo because a Bills fan was rich enough to buy the team.
  8. "Poison me once, shame on you. Poison me twice, shame on me." What possessed you to give them a third shot?
  9. Since Mrs. Pegula is younger than me, I think it's unlikely that it would happen in my lifetime. But if it did, I'd just become a Packers fan, since they're the only team owned by the fans. (I already root for them except when they play the Bills.)
  10. I know someone who works for ESPN. I busted his chops about this, telling him that they should feature it on the next episode of "C'mon, Man!" He confirmed that it was Applebee's idea and because of their sponsorship, ESPN agreed to it. In his words, "It wasn't well thought-out."
  11. How about the graphic of former Bills QBs (Tyrod and AJ) going over the falls? Pretty tasteless, I thought, although not as tasteless as boneless "wings" from Applebees.
  12. That whiff was exactly the point when I knew the game was lost. Even if they hadn't scored a TD, a FG would have made it a 9-point game with about 6 minutes to go, putting it out of reach for our offense.
  13. His play-calling last night was pretty creative. If the players had executed better, we could have pulled out a win.
  14. What's next? Go to Philly and get a cheese steak sandwich from Arby's? If the NFL ever plays a Super Bowl in London, ESPN will send a crew to an English pub and order a round of Bud Light.
  15. ... and he's still telling KB where to line up.
  16. First quarter: "The Bills have to go with their strength and keep running the ball." Later: "You can't beat the Patriots by running the ball all game - you have to throw it downfield."
  17. You don't want to.
  18. Because a 2-5 team has a lot of holes, so you fill them any way you can.
  19. He did; Montgomery mutinied. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000980254/article/aaron-rodgers-hollywood-ending-hijacked-by-rogue-decision As soon as he started running the ball out, I had a Leodis McKelvin flashback.
  20. We were visiting my wife's family last week. Late in the 2nd quarter my father-in-law disappeared. At halftime I realized he was outside stacking firewood. I decided to join him - seemed like a better use of time than watching the second half. I'm officially in "Next Year" mode. I'll keep watching this year too, but I'm out of hope for the season.
  21. I think you're right about that. I wouldn't.
  22. By the trade deadline we'll know whether they consider this season to be a complete rebuilding year. If they trade Shady, then they're officially throwing in the towel and tooling up for next year's draft. If not, it means they think there's still a chance, however remote it may be, to have a winning season.
  23. I think you mean billion. To answer your question, Ralph already ensured that the Bills would be in Buffalo for a long time by signing a ten-year lease with a ridiculous penalty for breaking it. He knew the Pegulas were interested in buying the team, had the capital to do it, and had personal incentive to keep them in Buffalo. They can finance a stadium without public funds if they think it's worth it, and they're smart enough to know that they can't price the tickets out of reach of the average fan. Therefore, I'd prefer that he donated it to the community as a whole. Football is entertainment. A region needs more than an NFL team in order to thrive.
