There will be an NFL Triple-header on Christmas (a Thursday)
corta765 replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I 100% agree with you about Christmas games when the holiday isn't on Sunday as it is such a forced unneeded thing, but now the cans open and they will never put it back. I have barely watched any of the Xmas games outside of the night Ravens 49ers game two years ago and I only watched that in the background. I have already resigned myself that the Bills will play this year on Xmas and just hope it is at night so Xmas is over otherwise it will just be background noise at this point. Thanksgiving I am the opposite as my wifes family had a big party during the Cowboys which was a blast and I did not mind the other two. I actually have hoped we would get black friday as it would be a really awesome party to watch. In general the NFL is getting dangerously close to ruining its greatest asset which is scarcity of games. At some point trying to make tentpole games all over the schedule will go too far and viewers will not come the way they think. Part of the uniqueness that drove the NFL was you had most of the games Sunday with then the night cap and MNF. If you were in either night game it was special and it also highlighted the league itself. The amount of games they are moving off the Sunday slate means lesser matchups and in general a lack of uniqueness. One thing I have started enjoying with week 18 is they only have one night game Sunday and at most 3 on Saturday so you just have the whole league at once with the best matchup or two winning out as a standalone. Call me nostalgic or I am just getting old (heck yea lol) but I would love to see the league retreat back a little in terms of primetime. Thursday night I do really love because it kick starts my weekend as in Fall I have a lot of Fridays off with work, but some of the games really are just dogs and the player safety issues are no joke. -

lol yea the lions have not earned the right for another day nor should they ever get that request. 3 good years does not make up for a half a century of ineptitude and bleeding eyes on thanksgiving -

Best $20 you can spend! I have thought with primetime games in general because basically two decades worth of fans got conditioned to 1pm games 15 times a year they didn't realize if you are half way decent you play primetime and biggest nights semi regularly. -

Being a top 3 team in scoring. Does it matter how we do it?
corta765 replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just want to note while they were top 3 (2 actually) in scoring on offense they were really more a top 10 offense as overall ypg, passing ypg, and running ypg where around the top 10 range. So I actually would like to see the offense move up top 5 in yards per game and be a little more diversified. How they do that? I don't care, Palmer looks to be the best deep guy they've had in a long timer but I still think their pass catching group is middle of the road and would take a bigger name to eat targets. -

The problem is it isn't one game or post season, collectively in every single Bills playoff loss to end the year since Josh was the starter the defense has wilted. Texans and Chiefs in 23' are the closest you've seen to the defense putting up a fight and I have been pretty vocal 23' the coaching staff did a good job given the lineup being so decimated. But when other opponents of KC the weeks before and after blow apart their offensive line but our defense can't it says something. Yes Benford was out, but the Bills got beat by Mahomes on scrambles left and right and other teams overcome injury yet we lose one guy and its 30 + points allowed again. Josh and the offense have scored 24, 36, 24, & 29 points vs KC. Until PHI ran rough shot on them in the SB they have been the only offense to put that many points on the Chiefs defense in the post season the last two years. The offense had a B level performance and still had the team to 29. At some point it would be nice for the defense to actually hit Mahomes, get some sacks, hold them to under 24 points or less once?! Not allow literally Mahomes to have some his best games of his career. You do realize the Bengals in both matchups with KC held the Chiefs to 24 and 20 points allowed? If Josh had that level of defensive support once they are in the SB or the AFC title game again. It is far more a coaching thing then talent at this point. Spags throwing the sink at Josh on the final play showed it in spades. It was a gutsy move but one that was unexpected and got Josh off just enough to force a tough throw he still almost landed. That is coaching at its finest.

Agreed. The numbers are staggering that against anyone else KC on offense is not nearly as good in the playoffs, but they really manage to get to our D and coaching staff hard come post season. 2023 I think the coaching staff (outside of the Hamlin Disney movie 4th down call) was the one time they actually went toe to toe coaching wise with KC and we got beat by bad luck and inches. The defense was scotch tape at that point and the only gameplan that worked was what the Bills did which was ball control the heck out of KC and hope by making them play a million plays you got some turnovers. Again, game of inches and it still didn't fall our way. But other than that the defense specifically and coaching staff is just a step behind every year come playoff time in the big game (especially vs KC). The offense in all 4 playoff matchups has been 24 ppg or better. I was and still am (a bit) critical that Josh had the ball and the offense failed this year as you would want that every time imo. But realistically they scored 29 points with a B level performance on offense and never got any real support by our D. Not once in any of the four playoff games has the defense put up a performance on defense that is any better then a C+ (2023) and basically told the offense good luck be perfect which they were in 13 seconds and arguably were in 23' given the gameplan at that time. Beane certainly is trying again to bring in new talent and blood on the d-line which has never done a thing in the postseason vs Mahomes and McD has brought in some new faces coaching wise that are different from anything he has used prior which indicates to me a new philosophy. But until the games start and performance is real I am skeptical in the defense and coaching staff.

Throwback: Jim Kelly’s 1st NFL game 1986
corta765 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Its funny because if you look at the Jets history from 1981 to 2010 the Jets were decently average with some good teams but never breaking through or having a QB that could carry the team. They actually made the AFC title 4 times in those 29 years and despite NE being there in the 2000s they made the playoffs 6 of the 10 years with 2 division crowns and an AFC title. The Jets have always well Jetted to an extent, but in the past it was more missed opportunities vs the last decade + of pure ineptitude. Before the Jets picked Darnold over Allen it was O'Brien over Marino. I always felt Pennington was a good enough starter to go the distance but once his shoulder got wrecked it was what it was (not sure though with NE there if it would have mattered) I think the issue forever with the Jets which my uncle summarized well is the Jets chased the newspaper headlines while the Giants actually chased titles. -
It’s time for a generational talent, blue chipper

the good news is the draft is a 100% sure thing and you can just pick your fav position of choice to be a generational blue chip talent -
Your thoughts on the Bills offseason so far
corta765 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Apparently we are playing Madden and either making new players OR teams are willing to just part with their best assets. To date the only elite level player moved was Metcalf, there has not been a single defensive player moved that was rumored & Hendrickson looks like he may be going back to CIN. -

Bingo. CIN is the worst example possible. They missed because their defense was so awful and couldn't stop a beach ball... so they have decided to run it back. -

This may be hard to believe but adding 3-4 ALL PRO talents is not exactly easy and if it was every team would do it. Even if you want to trade for a guy you need a team willing to actually move a guy also. I am sure Beane wanted and was in on Crosby/Garrett but if the team won't trade them you can't do anything about that. -

1. Acceptable - they addressed the d-line like we hoped, WR addition has been made at an area they did not have that player, and the cap is open for additional moves. 2. Same Team- As of right now feels like the same roster to me until we see it in person. Maybe the defensive line is better but would need to see it in action before I say it is a massive improvement. I honestly think the draft and later FA addition in summer may add more wrinkles that improve the roster. The threshold to improve on offense is minimal, it is the defense where you hope the improvement is pronounced. -
Chiefs played black friday and xmas this year, 49ers last year played on Thanksgiving on Xmas. Do not think for a moment the NFL cares about family, ratings only

The key to the night games is at least one of the big four games is not at night (KC/PHI/BAL/CIN) so which one is a 4:25 pm national game. Also which divisional game is at night is the other piece of the equation. My guesses: KC (MNF) PHI (SNF) CIN (Xmas Day Night) at NE (MNF) at ATL (TNF) PIT in Dublin

I wouldn't say cursed I would say mix of missed opportunities and misfortune: 2020: Breakthrough year they were not ready for the moment, but the season still felt like a success 2021: Complete failure to close. It has been talked about in nauseum but yea major major missed chance 2022: Misfortune to the max. Probably the only time in my life I have given a professional sports team a pass on performance. Before Hamlin got hurt the following happened: Week 9 - Allen's arm gets hurt vs NY impacting his ability to throw for a month and half Week 10 - Jefferson catch in OT loss. Week 11 - Game has to be moved because of snowfall Week 12 - Beat the Lions in a thriller but lose Von for the year when he had been playing superb up to that point and was the big FA signing Week 16 - Win the division but cannot return to Buffalo for two days due to the record snow closing the area Week 17 - Damar. Even before Hamlin's situation the season went from a dream to utter exhaustion with situations way outside of the teams control while fighting KC & CIN for the 1 seed. Once Hamlin nearly died I told my wife the next day the season felt over. The look on Josh's face alone summarized it all that night. I understand we make these guys out to be gladiators who fight through anything, but they are people and I couldn't imagine seeing a guy you play everyday with basically dying in front of you in the sport your supposed to love. 2022 was epic misfortune and forever feels tainted or almost stolen in sense because of how it unfolded. 2023: Misfortune/Failure - They railed to win the division but this was the worst of the teams from 2019-2023 as the defense was held together with duct tape and the offense had to rebrand midyear into a new identity which angered their top WR .... who subsequently dropped a key pass in the playoff loss. The defense was misfortune, but it was a failure coaching wise in certain areas and they couldn't finish KC off at home. 2024: Failure. This wasn't bad luck, Buffalo made too mistakes across the board including 17 and it added up for a gutting result. The coaching staff on D again failed in the most pivotal moment, the offense wasn't nearly as clean as it had been all season, 17 missed some plays you wish he had back, and Brady got schooled in a game you needed his best. Sure it was a reset year and in that sense they overachieved, but they had the chance to close and make the dance and failed. Of all the years 24' bothers me the most because the SB was that freaking close and they didn't do it. 13 seconds gets the hype but they still had another full game against a CIN team that was rolling and did beat KC in KC. I have no idea what the Bills would've done vs PHI, but this year was the closest they have been to getting to the dance and they failed to capitalize on that chance. No curse, just failure.

Nope. NFL killed that rule and some teams get no night games at all. I believe year 2 of Dan Campbell and the Lions they initially had no night games until winning their way into week 18 appearance on SNF v GB. They did get Thanksgiving, but teams do go without primetime now which honestly is for the best. Panthers last year also had no night games although they did get one game overseas and 5x 4pm games. Although there was something magical about the TEN v JAX yearly TNF game lol

A not great (for Bills) mock draft. What would you do different?!
corta765 replied to RyanC883's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would be more disappointed that DJ went for a 2nd and we didn't get him AND then instead went with another young unproven WR. -
Not impossible but CLE needs to draft a new QB then because there is not much of a draw at this time.
-
I think the NFL relents letting CBS have the golden goose for so long. Remember SNF got Bills in 21, technically Bills Chiefs in 2020 was TNF, only MNF has not got the Bills yet.
-
My point is if you want a primetime game at night the only way to guarantee that is week 17. Week 18 the NFL intentionally leaves all the games TBD so they can setup week 18 with the best matchups later. Buffalo can be home week 18 but if the game doesn't matter it will be at 1pm in a smaller window game. I know for Bills fans closing out the stadium is a big deal, but nationally it will not be as big compared to a game that has playoff or seeding implications.

After I posted this I forgot about those Saturday games. Certainly could see the CAR game be one on that docket. The hard thing with that is then your guaranteeing BUF week 17 at home. Week 18 it is luck of the draw with how competitive things are. Obviously playoffs last game is going to be big, but regular season wise I think is a little tougher to force in that spot.
