OT: Belichick says that Mac's improvement is "dramatic"
Success replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, I certainly enjoyed reading that. Of course, Pats fans will read that as, "Our D is like the '85 Bears!" -
We have such depth that I feel like we can patch any hole for awhile. Hoping for the best.

Tua will be a capable QB - which is more than I would have said about him a year ago. The Bills are going to be the class of the division and the conference. But zilch is going to be handed to them. They're going to have to show up every week and give the proverbial 110%. The difference between Buffalo and at least 5-6 other teams in the AFC is not huge. Even a small let-up will give any of those teams an opening - Miami included. They're going to be a tough out this year.

'Praying for Dion' Dawkins: Top Bills Lineman Leaves Camp

A reminder that players are people. All the best for him & whatever is going on right now. Sending good vibes. -
I think the Colts are going to be way better than Tennessee. TN's run last year was pretty flukey. Too hard to predict, otherwise. That AFCW is really somethin'. The carnage in that division will probably open up a spot for a team like Miami.

I think I'd try to find a way to buy the Patriots, and then move them to Albuquerque. -
Bills are 1 pt Favorite Versus the Rams
Success replied to RoyBatty is alive's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought the Rams would have been a bad SB match-up for us last year. I might even put that in the "unpopular opinions" thread on the other forum. Our line - though they were playing well - would have had a tough time w/ that pass rush. Our secondary would have had a tougher time covering those receivers. I feel like they've lost a little, and we've gained a little, and it's a more favorable match-up for the Bills now. It wouldn't even surprise me if we won by a few scores. -

I thought the throw that Hyde picked off looked beautiful - the accuracy was perfect. But, it highlighted what one of his big flaws is - it didn't have nearly enough juice. He'll never be able to sling it like the top guys. I also think he'll wilt more under pressure, which he hasn't really had to face yet because the Pats do a good job w/ their line. He isn't a good scrambler or improviser. -
Changing the actor for Jeff kind of hurt the payoff, imo. With the new actor, I kind of felt bad for the character - the other actor made him more menacing & more of a jerk. Probably a polarizing episode for fans, but I liked it. It was a really slow build, but they could use a lot of what they did in film school - the angles, the repetition, even the close-ups of the cinnabun. And Carol Burnett!

Or, they might have a standing game of "rock, paper, scissors".... -

That's more when he is talking about opponents. He's usually much more guarded about his own players, which is why his comments earlier were noteworthy (imo). -
I wouldn't call this a happy development. Not scary, but if we make the SB, I'd say there is a 50% chance that the Bucs are there waiting for us. He's not as good. But he's also still Julio Jones.

I think if Belichick retired, pretty much everything about that team would be a moot point. Put that roster under most other coaches, and they're middlin' at best. There are almost no players that they have that I would take over a Bills player at the same position. Maybe Barmore? And same in reverse for Jones, imo. If he was in a sitation last year like Lawrence had w/ the Jags, or Wilson with the Jets, no one would be talking about him. -

For me, it's decision-making ability & the ability to process things quickly. I was impressed how he would go through his reads, and make quick decisions. I think his arm held him back more than anything. -

That's how I feel about it. He's clearly pretty solid. In a way, that could be a good scenario for the division. The Pats have a Cousins/Alex Jones type of guy - good, but not close to great. They have to overpay him in a couple of years, and he's their long-term guy, but he can only take them so far. -
Outside of New England, I doubt any fanbase knows and understands the Sith Lord more than Bills fans. He doesn't say stuff like that. Just wanted to get a temperature out there: there has been a ton of Jones hype this offseason, and at minimum, he IS in much better shape physically. Any concern at all that we could be in for another run from that team? Obviously, we're still top dog for the time being, but if Jones does pan out, I could see them being more like Miami was in the '90's to the team we had then. My own 2 cents is that I still don't see it. He can't really improvise, and arm strength will always be an issue. He also struggles against man coverage. But he does have the cerebral thing.

All I've ever wanted is a team that realistically COULD win it. We had too many years of teams that would have no chance whatsoever, even if they snuck into the playoffs somehow. This team has an excellent chance. We happen to be peaking at a time when there are a lot of good QB's and teams, but the opportunity is still there. Of course it's no "lock." If it wasn't a lock for the '07 Pats or '01 Rams, it's not a lock for anyone.

I told myself I wouldn't watch the KC playoff game for years - but of course I watched most of it when they showed it on the NFL network last night. Still can't watch the end. But watching JA is jaw-dropping, almost the whole time. He just does it all - his ability to evade pressure and improvise is superior to anyone I've ever seen at the position. He has every tool imaginable, is as athletic as anyone in the game, and mentally, he's both intelligent and fearless. And he is CLUTCH. Do you believe it now, Trinity? This is the guy we slogged through a few decades for. I'm excited for so many things this season - but I'm mostly excited just to watch him play again.

"Do your job" is an incredibly brilliant, deceptively simple & very effective team philosophy.

I think this team learned its lesson about buying the hype last year. They're going to come out on fire, and it will be the football equivalent of Sherman's March from there.
