  1. I just didn't get baseball for a LONG time. I was one of those who thought it was just a slow game, with a bunch of unathletic guys spitting. And the season seemed endless - I didn't understand how any single game or series mattered. I moved downstate and lived fairly close to the stadium for awhile, so games were always on TV. My kids started watching, so I'd watch w/ them, and we'd go to the occasional game just for fun. When they won in 2009, I still wasn't really into it - but my kids were over the moon, so I was more happy for them. That got me watching a little more though. I started to understand the game more, and see all of the little nuances that go on. The tense battles between the pitcher & batter; the chess match as the game goes on and managers go to the BP; the absolute beauty of a team playing great defense. By the time they got Judge, I was hooked - and he definitely put it over the top. Like everyone else, I just became a huge fan of his right out of the gate. I never imagined that I'd be as into the sport as I am today. It's not like the Bills, where I have to watch every single game no matter what - but it's close. I end up watching most of the games, from the start of April on. I'm Bills, Yankees, Knicks - in that order. Only Yankees for the past decade or so, so I've never experienced one of my teams getting a championship. I'm hoping that changes this year...maybe for 2 of my teams, who knows. I have no illusions about the Knicks, though!
  2. I was a huge Monty fan - and really liked the guy just as a person. The trade was odd, but for me, the jury is out until we see what we have in Bader. As for Montas, I think he has great stuff. I'm hoping a bigger sample size will give fans (including me) more confidence.
  3. Lots of great ones here! I agree w/ the flushable toilets guy. We take that for granted. I'm also always amazed that people come and take my garbage. I have a family, and there is a ton of it. People taking my garbage every week is awesome. And while I'm at it, Western NY is awesome. Opposing fans always say things like "pity Bills fans for living in such a hole." I love Buffalo, I love Rochester, I love Western NY. God's country.
  4. I'm a recent Yankees fan (last 5 years - didn't understand baseball before that). Pretty rabid about it now - but man, the attitude of fellow Yankees fans can be off-putting. They remind me so much of today's Pats fans. This team has a 9 game lead in the division. It's a long season. No one sprints the whole time. They will be fine. I disagree. His trade deadline this year made 100% sense to me. The Yanks needed a contact hitter, a starter & help in the BP. He got all 3. Would Castillo have been better than Montas? Sure. But there are 31 other teams, and the Reds didn't like our prospects as much. And as far as Monty - he was only in the starting rotation in the playoffs if there were injuries. We need CF more. Bader is one of the best defensive players in the league.
  5. Flacco is a bit like Eli, imo. So many forgettable regular seasons. But both had postseason runs where they were amazing, clutch, and looked almost invincible at times. Eli had 2. Flacco's one was just one, but it was one for the ages. He couldn't miss.
  6. They used to say WE were THEIR farm club. How the ol' turntables.
  7. ESPN is to sports what the Grammy's are to music. Take that as you will.
  8. There are no style points in football.
  9. The Bills need to keep this guy. Can't really pinpoint it - but he's going to be a key piece along the way.
  10. Honestly, I'd rather have Hodgins than OBJ. Someone who is homegrown, enthusiastic, talented & will go all out on every play, every time he's on the field. Is OBJ a better receiver? Yes, and easily. But Hodgins is my choice.
  11. I'm so sick of this dude. Not because of this particular story at all - I'm just sick of this dude. Part of me wants nothing to do w/ him if the Bills make the SB - but part of me definitely hopes for it. I want Buffalo to embarrass him just like they did the Pats last year. I could die in peace w/ that.
  12. Man, the AFC really is stacked this year. The hope is that once the season starts, some teams end up being more hype than anything else - but right now, the differences between the top 5 look pretty thin. I could see a lot of close games, and a nip & tuck battle for the 1 seed until the final weeks. I know the opener is a non-conference affair, but I want to win that game BAD. That is some kind of statement game - beating the defending SB champs on their turf. And I don't want to get behind the 8-ball like we did last year (at the time when we lost to Pitt, I completely shrugged it off, because hopes were so high - but it did set sort of a tone for the season). Cripes...is it September yet?
  13. No DOUBT. I already brought up w/ him that Gilmore & Edelman got into it a few years ago, and he put it all on Gilmore who was "just in from the Bills and obviously bringing his lack of discipline over." They're a fun bunch, those Pats fans.
  14. I had a discussion online w/ a Pats fan a couple of weeks back when Allen had his scuffle. Typical NE fan - he said that never happens w/ a "well coached" team and you never see that under Belichick. They're really cartoon characters now.
  15. Best possible ending, imo. I'm always amazed by the creators and writers. I thought it was going to be super-bleak. But the way they tied it off, it was actually the best ending for Jimmy/Saul. He seemed almost at home in prison, and even w/ the plea deal, he would have likely fallen into his old habits again once he got out. And he really earned redemption by coming clean for the 1st time ever, on everything.
  16. While we don't punt that much anymore, it has been a weakness in the past few years. This guy is a game changer. When you can stall deep in your own territory, then turn around and pin the other team deep in theirs, it's almost an unprecedented special teams advantage.
  17. That was the best punt I've ever seen in my life. Hodgins need to make the team.
  18. Most teams usually don't have pro bowlers as backups. This is how it goes.
  19. Even Belichick won't be able to out-scheme the Punt God. It may force him into retirement.
  20. It was worth coming up short just to see that hold, and Bass make a 48 yarder.
  21. I kind of hope Hodgins makes it - he has a great skill set.
  22. Well - him, and most of the other guys who will actually be Bills in September.
  23. Sorry, Matty H. The good news is that teams always need punters. Thanks for everything & good luck....
  24. I'm all set w/ preseason now. Bring on game 1 of the regular.
  25. I usually root for young QB's, and he seems like a decent guy - but the way Pats fans hype this dude, I've never wanted a QB to fail so spectacularly.
