The major reason Wade was fired was his stubborn insistence on keeping Ronnie Jones. Some have advanced the theory that he did so because he wanted to be fired so he could get the fugowie out of a bad Buffalo situation while collecting the balance of his contract. Ralph's failed attempt to stiff him on that was based on the Jones situation so maybe there's some truth there. Foolishly keeping a proven loser in Crossman puts Marrone on the path to head coach failure. Is it possible he's already seen the handwriting on the wall with this incompetent franchise and he's hoping he too can be fired while banking a bunch of Ralph's money?

My pre-combine draft thoughts, how about yours

WR and TE are not the highest needs going forward. Besides, who'd throw to them? I'd favor either RT or OLB in the first round, then do whatever it takes to shore up LG. And is it possible to draft a Special Teams coach? -
Who did the Linden murders?

I've closely watched Hundley's every game and no way is he close to NFL ready and I'm not sure he will ever be.

Jets have no qualms about drafting another QB...

Ask yourself this question: If EJ was entering the draft this year, would you take him over Bridgewater, Manziel, McCarron, Brotles and whoever else is coming out? If your answer is yes, then relax until next September. But if your answer is no, then why wouldn't you take one of those other guys? -
Candidates to replace Marrone next January

Mike Shanahan. Just 4 short years ago, he was the most popular choice around here. I hear he is available. -
Bills Offseason Needs per WGR's Joe B.

I think a guard, maybe two,is a bigger immediate need than tackle, WR, TE. -
Byrd's one of the best in the league & I'd imagine he'd like to wear a Super Bowl ring one fine day. That said, there might not be an amount of money to induce him to sign with a crappy team for 4 or 5 years. If I was him, I'd be willing to sign for less money from Seattle, SF or another top team rather than play another game for Buffalo.

Yikes! Just watched the Brandon-Whaley-Marrone press conference and there was Marrone putting the special teams failure on the players, not Crossman. My guess right now is that Crossman is staying put. The question that was asked about Crossman was weak. One of these reporters needs to phrase this in the correct way, something like this: "Since Marv Levy in the 80s, the Bills have historically fielded one of the better Special Teams. Even Bills teams with losing records have been pretty darned good on Special Teams, including last year. The only really poor year in 25 was when Wade Phillips fired the legendary Bruce Dehaven and replaced him with his crony Ronnie Jones,( a move that eventually cost Wade his job) and this year, when you fired Dehaven and brought in Crossman. Considering that Dehaven and Bobby April managed to consistently put together very good Special Teams from mediocre rosters -- and Dehaven did it just last season -- doesn't that seem to point to Coach Crossman being the problem, not the players?"

If EJ is not the answer, who should we "suck" for?
yungmack replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marcus Mariota should be on your list. Winston is just a freshman. I.d keep an eye on Kessler from USC. None of then will be available for at least another year. -
Solid list, Yolo.

Question about Buffalo media - mean no disrespect

JW, any chance Coach Marrone would sit down with you for an extensive in-depth "State of the Bills" interview? -
This move does not instill confidence in Marrone. A staff of WRs who are rookies, projects, never_beens & a malingerer at #1,plus TWO rookie QBs & one from the practice squad, all of questionable ability and somehow the entire failure of the Bills is Hilliard's fault? Meantime Crossman is still drawing a paycheck? This will not fly with fans & will undermine Marrone with them as well. Shucking & jiving.

Worst thing that could happen this offseason??
yungmack replied to Oberyn's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The worst would be a trifecta: lose Pettine, keep Crossman, fail to draft a QB. -
Kyle Williams: "There will be changes here"

Dareus was benched last Sunday for being late, then shows up late the very next day???? That's a giant WTF. BUT Dareus "character flaw" is being late, NOT closing bars at 4 AM, being out with a posse where guns are fired, fathering 8 kids, or any of the other things that the real problem players do. He was a few minutes late! If that is the worst problem on the team, then I'm not ready to dump the fat kid. BTW, if this has been a season long problem, why did Marrone wait until the Bills were out of it to begin the discipline? Wouldn't it have been more effective to have done this right at the beginning of the season if he wanted to set an example? A second BTW: I think Marrone shoild have sat him out one series a week ago, not a quarter. Then this week he should have done the same and added a fine. Benching Dareus for a half punished the rest of the team and the fans. Really piss poor coaching decision. -
Improve the offense or make this an elite defense in draft?

It comes from people who don't know football. -
I have been a supporter of Marrone since the Bills went a'courtin' last off season but that could change depending on what he does in the next few days about his staff, Special Teams in particular. By any standards, the Bills ST is dreadful. How Marrone handles the Crossman situation will let us know just how honest a head coach he is. If he shucks and jives about it, if he pretends "it's something we have to work on and we will," if he does ANYTHING other than fire Crossman, then he, Marrone is just another bulls****** collecting his paycheck, knowing he can pickup a decent job elsewhere as an assistant or college HC, while putting a few million in his "retirement fund" courtesy of the Bills.

Bonne annee, Olivier. Love your part of France but we're more "Dordogne people." Wait, my wife says Albi or Chinon. Or Arles. Definitely Paris. Maybe Bayeux. Ah, heck, we love the whole country. There's a fine sports bar on Port Royal in Paris in the 5th called "Aux Marsouins". It's a short block to the east of where Rue Berthollet meets Port Royal (Rue Flatters). Cozy, enough flat screens, pleasant crowd, good food and drink and, best of all, happy hour starts at 1 in the afternoon and lasts until 9. Very civilized, but I don't know if they do NFL games. Most definitely do rugby though.

Where in France are you looking for a Bills bar?

I believe EJ is the first QB they ever took with the first overall pick in team history. So the absence of attention to that position goes back a lot longer than 20 years.

It's Monday, season is over and you're doing Wawrow's job

I have a few questions so here goes: Presuming you have watched tape from last year, why oh why haven't you insisted that Hackett put CJ & FJ on the field at the same time? For the love of God, will you be hiring a QB coach? We've seen enough of Crossman. How about you? Could you explain to the suffering fans what it is you see in EJ that makes you so sure he's going to be great because it seems no one else sees it. -
It will take time to see if I'm right but I feel this is a FO and coach that will act quickly to remedy any mistakes they make. If Whaley, et al, think EJ's not "the guy," I think they'll be quick to move on. If they don't they likely will be gone themselves. I believe EJ's got one more year to make his case. If he continues to get injured, to turn over the ball, to be inaccurate, to miss seeing open receivers, he's done in BFLO.
