Mike Pettine Appreciation Thread
yungmack replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pettine 's defense is everything we could hope for. Unfortunately, Wannstedt has snuck back to the staff, disguised as some guy named Hackett. Is it too early to bring in Chan as OC & send the little twit Hackett back to college? -
This is a major reason so many movie stars, star athletes, etc. make Florida their official residence. Lots of them, like Tiger and Shaq, don't spend a whole lot of time their...but their money does. BTW, this is also a problem for Canadian teams.

It was quiet...when the Bills were on offense, a subtlety that seems to have escaped Gleason's notice.

Jacksonville crowd shot mid-game
yungmack replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are in the process of making London (England, not Ontario) part of their "market," with at least one home game a year there. This is happening with the NFL's blessing. -
Jairus Byrd our Peyton Hillis Headache
yungmack replied to John Belucheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Byrd expects another team to make him the top paid safety, he has to show he's worth it. And the way he does it is to play at a high level. If he spends a lot of time on the bench, no way does he get the big bucks. The worst thing for him would be to get a rep as either a faker or as chronically hurt. He & his agent aren't idiots: they know he has to get on the field & play out of his mind. So all this talk of him dogging it or pampering himself is foolish. As to him avoiding playing so he doesn't get hurt & "leaving millions on the field," all he has to do is take out insurance that covers that possibility. -
Hurry Up Offense at the End of a Game
yungmack replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The "should have burned the clock" complaint has showed up in several threads & several articles. To me this is pure nonsense. There was well over 4 minutes to play, the lead was 1 point. If the Bills had used the full amount of time for each play & still gone 3 &out, there would have been about 3 minutes left, give or take, plenty of time for the Pats to score. That was the scenario Marrone was facing. The real problem wasn't how much time they took but failure to get a first down (or a score). In other words, as already mentioned above, the problem was execution. Had they made a couple of first downs and at least kicked a field goal, they would likely have won. -
Outer Harbor transferred to NY State from NFTA
yungmack replied to Breakdance's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every state in the Old Confederacy except Texas gets more federal money than it pays in federal taxes. It has always been that way. The states in the South there were originally colonies were subsidized from their founding and were never a "paying concern." They continue to remain on the dole. However, the worst offender is Alaska which gets back a great deal more than it pays in. Interestingly enough, all of those are so-called "red states," bastions of "rugged individualism" and "free market" worship. And the one state in the Old Confederacy that's begun paying in more than it receives back - Texas - is now trending towards becoming a "blue" state. If you throw in the Plains and western Mountain states, all of which get generous "benefits" from the federal government in the form of farm, timber, water, oil and gas, and a zillion other subsidies, and all of which are equally "red" and "individualistic" states, it looks like the biggest "Welfare Queens" are the very states that trumpet the most about "doing it on your own." BTW, if all those states are running a credit line with the federal government, then who actually is making up that shortage? Why, all the "blue" states like New York and California. All those around here who espouse Republican, Tea Bagger, Limbaugh nonsense might want to think about this conundrum. -

The original site was supposed to be Lancaster but a NIMBY movement deep sixed it. Orchard Park was the "consolation" location. BTW, the original design was for a domed stadium but the politicos decided it was too expensive. It did get built finally in New Orleans. -
gimme Leonhard and Williams at safety Sunday
yungmack replied to 26TrapDraw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm good with that. -
I don't resent Byrd trying to get as much money as he can; I'd do the same thing in his position (and so would most of you). But if he fakes an injury or makes more out of a condition than is necessary in order to either "punish" the Bills or to protect his health for the next contract, then he's showing his character and I think most sensible teams in the league will avoid doing business with him. And if he's worried about being injured and diminishing his value, then do what the team does: take out an insurance policy. Duh. If the Bills want to return the favor and "punish" Byrd, trade him to Jacksonville. Or maybe into the black hole that is Oakland.

EJ continues to show his maturity
yungmack replied to Wazzu Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was glad to see him smile and laugh. -
Can you picture Eddie D of SF back in the day saying Notre Dame produces QBs who fail in the NFL so let's pass on this Montana kid. Or the Bills saying that Miami is not a serious football school (which it wasn't until Saban and Schnellenberger got there) so this Jim Kelly guy can't be properly evaluated.

Perspective, Eagles top 3 picks from 2011 are off the team
yungmack replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No he didn't and it was the Bills who decided he should be a CB. He's back at his natural position so let's see how it goes. So far so good. -
(Update) Jim Leonard back in Buffalo
yungmack replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Commentary on this thread has set a record for know-nothing "insight." Who in their right mind would further weaken the safety position by taking the one guy who's been doing relatively well (A. Williams) and move him to corner where he has established beyond a doubt that he sucks and then call that an improvement and "adding depth."? And those who disparage adding Jim Leonhard as some sort of dumb move, do you have a suggestion for someone better at this point? The guy is respected as one of the smarter defensive players in the league, is familiar with Pettine's system, supposedly is in about as good shape as can be expected at his age, and, oh yeah, he was available and willing to sign with Buffalo. What I think his main job is going to be is mentor/coach to a young secondary. I do not for a minute expect him to be a starter or to play a whole lot of minutes or to add to special teams. But for not much money, the Bills have gained a whole lot of intelligence and experience. When you (and you, and you) carp and B word about dumb moves by the FO, you do realize, don't you, that this is the same FO you were feeling so good about in other actions. It comes down to this: if you trust Brandon, Whaley, Marrone, Pettine, et al, then cut them some slack on the Leonhard signing. You know, it's just possible they know more than you do. -

The Bills have a very Inexperienced Roster
yungmack replied to Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's an odd youth movement that has veterans starting at all the o line positions, all theRB slots, TE, & two of the WR spots. On defense, tackles & ends are all veterans, starting LBs other than Alonso are vets & the secondary includes Byrd, Williams & McKelvin with Gilmore due back in about a month. As to the FO, Brandon has effectively been running the team for years, Whaley was being trained for the job for years (and both are veteran Bills, not newbies), the HC was a college HC as recently as last season, the DC was doing the same job last year in the NFL, and many of the coaches are well-experienced former NFL players. All in all, hardly a band of neophytes; all in all, a pretty seasoned bunch; all in all, hardly worth getting all "het up" over. -
I think as many as 5 of the guys who made the roster may be gone by next week as other team's cuts become available.

Jews feel guilt, Catholics feel shame. Huge difference. -
Wait till after this weekend to see what key players get hurt around the league. If key players go down, you might see some desperation moves. Other than that, I don't think you will see any trades. GMs will be pawing over all the players who will be released in the next few days.

Planning a trip to Buffalo for a Bills Game? Here's a guide:
yungmack replied to TheKickIsGood's topic in Tailgate Central
Very nicely done though it seems more like a guide to East Aurora than Buffalo. Nothing wrong with that though. Home to one of only 44 presidents, home to Fisher Price and home to the only kazoo factory in the US, if not the world. -
