  1. Isn't the key phrase "easier to learn" the thing to focus on? He isn't saying "It's simple enough an imbecile can run it." In high school I had a terrible time learning algebra. Then a neighbor who was an engineer sat me down & showed me a clearer way of approaching the concepts & suddenly I got it & algebra became "easy." Same subject, two different approaches to learning it, one difficult and one easier. That may be precisely what EJ is going through.
  2. While much apparently positive is going on at OBD, & as much as I feel good about it, so far it's all "on paper."So I think I'll wait awhile before going into stark raving fan mode. Last year has left a very bad taste.
  3. Another way to look at Manuel's comment is that FSU's offense was overly complex, a la Gailey's.
  4. If someone claims to be a Bills fan but doesn't know the players names then why should that persons opinions about the team be taken seriously?
  5. Alex Rugile is the name on the piece. That he thinks EJ & Woods can replicate what Kelly & Moulds had undermines anything else he has to say.
  6. Let's see: after practice number, you were already concerned about his accoracy? And after 3, you're still concerned but less so? Before you gave yourself agita, did you take into account that he hasn't been on the field with a team in months? Or that he is throwing to completely unknown receivers? Or that this is a brand new system? I think I would wait just a wee bit longer before writing him off.
  7. Levi Strauss is a SF company. Warren Buffett owns GEICO. He's kinda sorta connected to Bufflow.
  8. We don't know this for sure, but the legend is that Buddy couldn't get any top candidates to take the head coaching job that eventually went to Gailey. The perception around the league was that the organization was completely dysfunctional, from a meddling, aging owner, to an incompetent & understaffed scouting department, to a roster without quality players & huge holes at key positions. Contrast that with this off season: within days, more than 20 guys had contacted the Bills about the HC job. The Bills were able to set up meetings with all the top guys. And after hiring Marrone, they were able to sign a top DC. Several desirable FAs signed w/Buffalo over other teams. And last year they were able to sign arguably the star of the free agent class. So I would ask the Negative Nancys around here, do you honestly believe the current Bills are the same stinky organization they were 3 or 4 years ago? Or is it possible this really is a team with a strongly positive future, one that players & coaches now view as a good place to be? And if the latter is the case, how can you not give Buddy props for that? And ulimately, props to Brandon?
  9. No, not the right spot but "the right spot according to pundit X."
  10. Because I'm sure many posters here are much younger than I am, I thought I'd ask for the hell of it if all of you know where the expression, "Drink the Kool-Aid" comes from.
  11. It wasn't all that long ago the wildcat was all the rage. Then the Ds figured out how to defend against it. Let's wait another year or two & see how successful the read-option is then. One reason the Bills selected EJ is because of his versatility &won't be stuck with a read-option only guy.
  12. We fans tend to focus on "the arm" whereas the pros don't stress it nearly as much. Accuracy, brains (or at least the ability to correctly diagnose the defense) and "presence" count for more. Of course, if your guy has all those things going for him AND a strong arm, we're probably talking Number One overall. But a good many of the greatest QBs of all time are far from "great arms."
  13. I've watched this kid his entire career at SC and I like him. A lot. And he had a very good career there. But the NFL isn't college. His size can definitely work against him on this level. But you never know, he just might surprise me and a lot of other people. He could hardly have gotten a better coach and system than what Pettine's noted for so he's got a chance. We'll see.
  14. How about "Like any father, I thought my son should have gone number one overall. But we're awfully happy where he finally landed, with a great organization, a top coaching staff and a talented QB to teach Tyler the ropes."
  15. The one on TSW that jumps out at me is "reigns" instead of "reins" when writing something like "The Bills are handing the reigns to EJ." As he was drafted to be a QB and not a king, it would be nice to see "reins" used.
  16. Happy birthday, whippersnapper.
  17. In the backstage interview right after he was picked, EJ said, "I wanted to be in Buffalo." And he had a nice smile as he said it. I don't think I've heard that from a top pick before.
  18. To add to your comments, I don't believe Smith comes from the inner city, the hood or the ghetto but rather from the 'burbs. And what does it say knowing he and EJ come from the same area, have known and played against each other over the years, and yet appear to be so very different? To me it says that the race of a man is probably not close to the deciding factor about that man's character, and that those who are intent on linking the flaws and failings to that man's race and to nothing else are indeed racist, even when attempting to disguise their bias with words like "ghetto," "hood," "inner city" and "urban."
  19. Heard Stephen A. Smith this morning say that he received a text saying that "Geno Smith is on the verge of becoming the black Ryan Leaf." And he seemed to agree with that assessment.
  20. First off, there is no "all time best" at any position. Each player is limited and/or elevated by the players around him, the teams in his division, the coaching, the era in which he competed and so on. That said, there are a number of LBs who by any standard are in the pantheon. And what each and every one of them share is an ability to dominate and implant fear in opponents. They also share a love of, not just hitting hard, but of hitting hard enough to hurt. Not only do they take pleasure in the violence of the game, they revel in it. They border on the psychotic. And one of the problems with the Bills is that they haven't had any of those kinds of guys in a very long time. Which is why I am enthusiastic about Alonso and Williams.
  21. Best line in the video: "I wanted to go to Buffalo."
