The official 2013 Bills Schedule discussion thread
yungmack replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brutal schedule...3 teams coming off bye weeks for starters...Atlanta indoors...Improved Browns on Thursday night...late season bye...looks like the Bills are the early favorite in the Johnny Football sweepstakes at 3-13. -
Damond Talbot's Buffalo Bills Mock Draft 2.0

That would be one hell of a draft. -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
yungmack replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Note that the top 4 QBs in the ranking are Nassib, Barkley, Manuel & Wilson. Those are the 4 I believe the Bills have the most interest in. We'll know how strong thet feel about Kolb when the 8th pick comes up: if they take one of these guys there, then confidence is low; if they wait to the second round, then they're feeling pretty good about him. -
A Roscoe Parrish_sized receiver at 8? And Nassib lasting to the third round? Somebody must have poisoned Kiper's hair pomade.

First round trade down seems likely.
yungmack replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Keep in mind that a couple of years ago Kolb was considered one of the hottest QBs. If the Bills truly believe he isready to live up to those expectations - which I think they do - then in their mind there is far less pressure to pick one at 8. They might now feel more comfortable about trading down if they feel one of their preferred QBs will still be there later on. -
Buddy's comments lead me to believe he'll try to trade down in the first round if there is no run on QBs at the top of the draft. I don't think he wants to go below 20 in any case. I also think he tipped his hand about taking a safety in a later round.

The whole "yes sir/no sir" thing can be regarded as good manners, or as knee jerk cultural marker or as a sign of servility. I favor the last interpretation. I find it generally noxious and un-American as it implies (to me) that the person you're speaking to is of a higher caste than you. Significantly, the two places where this usage is strictly enforced are the military and prison. And the area of the country where it is wildly prevalent is the South, a place with a long and engrained history of a sense of the caste system, where servility was imposed and enforced by custom and by violence. I prefer to hang on to the older American tradition of "no man is my better." But then again, I do live in Southern California.

Aaron Williams moved to Safety
yungmack replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Williams appears to be a bright kid, which I value in a defense that requires intelligence, which Pettine's does. And he's a rodeo guy. That's both a sign of toughness and of "independence of mind." None of that says he'll succeed at safety but I think it gives him an edge. -
You know that old blues trope, "If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all"? Sounds like this kid's life story. With the size of the black cloud hanging over his head, anyone with a superstitious bone in his body would stay as far away as possible from him. His family sounds completely dysfunctional; what would make anyone think he who grew up in that environment isn't as well?

I noticed that Jon Gruden has declared Nassib the best QB in the draft. I haven't tracked Gruden's rankingss over the years so can make no comment. How about you guys? FWIW I believe the two QBs who will be flops are Smith & Glennon; I'd avoid both like the plague, especially in the first two rounds. Of the remaining top guys, I think the Bills are looking at Nassib, Barkley, Manuel & Wilson. If they think the Kevin Kolb they signed is the guy so many really liked w/ the Igles, they may elect not to pick any of those QBs, instead waiting until the 3rd or 4th round where they will take one of those guys if available (highly unlikely) or a project QB such as Bray or Scott.

Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
yungmack replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Has Alzheimers hit TSW? Last year, Buddy repeatededly said the Bills saw Glenn as a left tackle. It was the usual collection of "draft experts" who fixated on "Glenn is a guard." I mean, Buddy was adamant about this; he said it over and over. -
The one position we should not take at 8
yungmack replied to bufffan031's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taking a guard at 8 would be rank stupidity. Taking a dominating LEFT tackle there would be more than acceptable particularly if a dominating ILB is not there, & certainly over a mediocre QB. -
Exactly.

He would be a great pick in the second. Don't know if he'll last that long.

Waiting for Round 2 worth the risk?
yungmack replied to 4merper4mer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Picking a QB in the 1st round does not turn that player into a first round talent. And no amount of "magical thinking" can make it happen. By all means take one. But this class of QBs is what it is: a bunch of C+/B- guys. If you can accept that then you won't be disappointed when they turn out not to be saviors. -
This would rank among the more idiotic chices in Bills history if it happened. A more likely line pick would be one of the top tackles.

Chris Spielman: A Football Life
yungmack replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone know if Spielman's Catholic? Because the way a lot of you are talking, the new Pope ought to put him up for sainthood. The way I remember it was that instead of moving his wife to Buffalo, where she could have received treatment at the world-renowned Roswell Park, he chose to keep her in Ohio. That led to him "commuting" in for games for awhile. Around here, it's common to read posts about which players should be cut to save money or which guys are "bums" taking up roster space. Funny how no one seems to remember the way Speilman grabbed a paycheck every week, took up a roster spot, spent his weekdays in Ohio and overall hurt the team. We don't know if bringing his wife to Roswell Park would have saved her life. But we do know he could have properly done his job and given his wife top-shelf treatment if he had. So while I'm sympathetic about his loss, I'm not quite ready to have a stained-glass window of him installed at St. Joe's Cathedral. -
If Wilson was 6' 2'', he would have been top 3. The only flyer the Seahawks were taking was on his height, not his talent which, as you know, was/is excellent.

The Kolb Poll and Ledger
yungmack replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I like best is that Kolb didn't cost a draft pick. I believe he is perceived around the league as a big upgrade over Tarvaris, which means FAs are likely to take the Bills more seiously. I mean, think about Fred Davis having to decide between RGIII & TJax. -
Drafting by Value not need from the big board
yungmack replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pugh might go in the 1st round, certainly by the 2nd. Bray is a backup & a project. Jones is too high risk for my taste. If you see a Ray Lewis type anywhere out there, a dominator who will give you 12 to 15 years, let us know.
