I doubt Fangio goes to a team with a defensive minded head coach. Plus, where have you seen Fangio do more with less?

Frazier is more of an aggressive play caller than is perceived and it's not a vanilla defense when he has the majority of his starters available. The problem is he's played too conservative against elite QB's in the playoffs and that's the lasting image we'll have of him.

He's made a lot of small adjustments like that over the years even though Frazier has called the plays. One other one I remember is the Giants running it down our throats on the opening drive in 2019 (I think). McDermott tells something to the LB's and the defense only gives up seven points the rest of the game. Anyways, since McDermott is getting blasted this week, I thought I'd point out some good stuff.

I'm very concerned. -
Good stuff. Found an interview from 2011 when he was first hired as he explained trying to blend the Jim Johnson defense with the Ron Rivera defense. He mentions a lot of the things you referenced. It's going to be interesting to see the degree to which this defense changes. It may not look that much different but I'm intrigued none the less https://www.panthers.com/video/sean-mcdermott-interview-3338560

His and Simms conversation about McDermott was interesting and not that far off from the argument he had here. It kind of went like this. Florio - If the Bills lose in the Wild Card round next year McDermott needs to be fired. If they lose in the divisional round ownership has a heck of a hard decision to make. Simms - To be fair, nobody gave a ***** about the Bills until McDermott was hired. Florio - I'm just gonna say it. If I'm a Bills fan I'd want them to fire McDermott immediately and hire an upcoming innovative offensive mind like Ben Johnson or whoever. They already missed out on Sean Payton. Simms - Ok. Fine. I'm just going to go smoke weed and play with the chickens on my farm.

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)

They can get carried away with always trying to be the negative contrarian though. He’s not as bad as Sullivan though. I’ve always been a Vic Carruci fan. -
Is Sean McDermott our version of Doug Collins?

Marvin Lewis was 0-7 in the playoffs. It took a 4-11-1 season before Philly fired Pederson. You’re comparing apples and oranges. -

It’s easy to identify incompetence. Nobody that Pegula fired (head coach or gm) was coming off a season above .500. Sabres and Bills. I think they think they found their Tomlin/Cowher in McDermott and will stick with him through thick and thin. That actually strengthens the argument that Pegula will give McDermott a lot of leash because he knows how hard it is to find a coach and gm who consistently make the playoffs and put a winning product on the field. -

Patient organization in Pittsburgh. Pegula I believe grew up a Steelers fan growing up so it's just one of the reasons I believe McDermott really has to screw up royally for him to ever be fired. -

Cowher and Tomlin both won it in their second year with Big Ben. Mostly due to their defense. -

It sort of tells you something when you have to turn to basketball as your best analogy. A defensive minded head coach with a top five quarterback statistically for three years with this much regular season success is pry Tony Dungy with the Colts. Starting in 2002 he went 10-6 (lost WC round), 12-4 (lost AFC Championship game), and 12-4 (lost divisional game) in his first three years with Peyton. McDermott starting in 2020 (when Josh became Josh) went 13-3 (lost AFC championship game), 11-6 (lost division game), and 13-3. The Patriots and Steelers would be our Chiefs and Bengals in this silly comparison. It took him two more seasons to finally win a Super Bowl. The comparison isn't perfect but it's all I got.- 220 replies

About a week after the Bengals game I heard it through the grapevine there was a domestic disturbance at Allen’s house the night before the Bengals game and Diggs felt Josh’s head wasn’t in that game. Which is what his issue was. I didn’t want to say anything because I assumed it would be resolved by now. This is just something that was told to me who knew one of the police officers. I’m not 100% sure he wasn’t full of *****.
