While the call was awful, their team could have stopped the Rams from scoring and forcing overtime . The Saints also had the ball in the OT and didn’t score iirc so the non call didn’t exactly end the game. Challenges have always been limited. Scrutinizing an area of the game where rules violations often go uncalled isn’t a can of worms the NFL really wanted to open. They just wanted a mechanism to reverse a terrible call or non call in a high profile situation that leaves them with egg on their face.

It’s obvious to me, and should be to anyone paying attention. The league caved in due to backlash and embarrassment , but honestly reviewing / overturning non PI calls is terrible for the game. Imagine if they could challenge offensive holding ? It’d be ridiculous. It’s like that stupid blue line challenge thing in hockey disallowing goals that happen a half minute later. Any NFL fan knows that lots of ( technically) PI things go uncalled, and most would prefer to “ let them play” except for egregious infractions. The league has essentially sent the message to not waste your time or your timeout unless it’s a huge missed call and probably only in the playoffs or playoff berth deciding situation. Edit : more to your point in the thread title , I do not believe it’s any kind of revolt by the officials. Rather, more of a concerted effort with the league being on board. It’s meant as a fail safe in a game deciding situation during the postseason and that’s about it.

Reasons to not feel so bad about Patrick Mahomes
Boatdrinks replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Couldn’t agree more. Mahomes seems very down to earth, and yeah KC is closer to a Buffalo than say LA or NYC. Be it interviews or whatever, I don’t see a bit of AB or OBJ in Pat Mahomes. While that draft has been rehashed to death, I can’t see “ fit” or personality, character etc as a reason the Bills wouldn’t draft Mahomes. That had zero to with it imo. -

Agreed. Seems like a good guy, teammate, and ultimately pretty humble. Haven’t seen anything about him that would make him “ un- Buffalo “ Very weird take. -

And his numbers are actually better so far this year than last. Saying Mahomes is nothing special is ludicrous. -
Make the trade for Stephon Diggs

Yep, a proven, young player is better than a draft pick at WR. The time for a drafted WR was last year or earlier. -
Week 7: Dolphins at Bills (-17)

Hey, that’s what point spreads are for. Have to tempt $$$ on both sides. 17 is huge for an NFL game. -
While I empathize with FANS who may feel some level of BBFS, that poster is a troll and not a fan ( I have it blocked fwiw, your mileage may vary) that only posts statements critical of the Bills, their players and their organization. As for actual fans of the team, they need to realize that as difficult as most of the seasons were from 2000 thru 2016 were, they are the past. Most everyone in a key position with the team has been replaced. Those seasons have zero impact on the current team, Head Coach, players, and FO. Some fans may be gun shy, and I get it, but let it go. Any team in the league is potentially it’s own worst enemy. It’s a circular argument intended to take a legitimate thread in a completely different direction. Believe what you will, but this Bills organization is doing a lot of things ( refreshingly ) right and some optimism is warranted because they’ve earned it. As an aside to Jobot- obviously NE and KC are favored to win divisions and will likely claim playoff spots.

Not many teams in NFL history have managed a playoff berth after an 0-4 start. The Jets are very likely to be 1-5 after their next game. Unless they manage to beat NE, they’d best hold off on their playoff celebration. As for the Bills , if they somehow lost to the Dolphins ( I don’t care how) gloom and doom would be 100% warranted here. I don’t think it will happen, but what would you expect after what would amount to a massive organizational failure ? Sunshine and rainbows ?

The AFC is a dumpster fire this season
Boatdrinks replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That’s a purely subjective argument. Most would put Pats and Chiefs as 1 and 2 , and I still would as well. While Watson is excellent and the best player on that team, it’s not clear that HOU would beat the Bills head to head. In fact, last year’s edition of the Bills ( much worse) seemed well on their way to upsetting the Texans at home until Allen was injured. Pickerman came in and we all know the rest. Anyway, it’s about matchups and I think if HOU and BUF played each other the home team would be a slight favorite. -
Is this legit ? Hate those unis ...

And the owners could have built a new stadium in SD for the same or less than they paid to the NFL as a relocation fee. Strange situation. -

The Bills haven’t been playing run first football this year. The lack of scoring hasn’t come from conservative playcalling. It’s been turnovers and poor execution. -

It’s a balancing act. You’re winning on the fly with a young QB that’s still learning and making mistakes sometimes. McD has a top defense and he’s facing a low powered offense. He’s not going to be tempted to give that team any short fields or cheap points. Point differential can come into play at the end, but it’s way down the line. Win the game, and don’t give them anything easy. -

Lol... so a tipping an INT to your defensive teammate is now a “ less than “ play ? I suppose you must beat all opponents by 2/or more TDs to be a valid win ? What a crock.... -

Now wins are worrying ? Four wins and a hard fought loss to the SB champs. News flash: a lot of teams in the NFL are bad, so how many good teams will they face ? I’m pretty sure the Bills can still be “ for real” if they don’t go 8-1. Who cares if Darnold passed for 2 TDs and 300, but the Jets barely eked out a 2 point win ? Allen has won by more points with less yards. Doesn’t mean a thing. -

That’s what Lynn deserves for playing for the FG there. Down by 21 , ridiculous -

Yep, old fashioned physical football. O lineman love run blocking anyway, so it’s a perfect plan for them with a 3rd string QB.
